jock2612 Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 ENOUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lets move on .Bid for Sharpe or may be Cox.Many options will cost us less.Maynard is clearly aware of our interest and has so far not asked for a transfer so is not that fussed.Seems to me an agent is trying to get Prem interest or at least a better offer from BCFC
surrifox Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 it's now at the stage where I will be quite disappointed if we sign him after caving in to their demands

Move on and try and get Sharp - I'd be very happy if we could. If we can't get Sharp (I'm not so sure about Cox), come back to Maynard in August - Brizzle (and he) might then be more realistic about the price.
Wortho Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 As much as I dislike Bothroyd why don't we bid for him. I would still prefer to get The Yak. 4-5 million for Maynard is abit over the top.

Babylon Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 Ok Yak or Nuggent Naughton or Peltier Davis or Mills A keeper that conceeds 71 or one the conceeds 70... But we are signing another striker, if you didn't notice we just bid nearly £5m for your centre forward. Plus Yakubu divided opinion because he put no effort in. I've already said Naughton will be missed. Do you actually watch Davis, except for his first 3 games he was nothing special and he left at Christmas, we conceded shit loads of goals all season. The keeper isn't responsible the every single goal... what a stupid comment to mate.
ithuriel Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 Yes Davis, that stand out defender we had who after a few games of playing quality football then went on to show his concentration lapses that let players run in behind him into very threatening positions and that is in this division let alone what he would be like in the premier league.
Bezzanator89 Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 If this following quote from this link is true, then I'm beginning to acquire a deep dislike for Bristol. If we have bid approx £5million and they have still rejected it, I say that is that. Maynard is not worth one penny more. Race For Maynard Bristol City have turned down a further improved bid for striker Nicky Maynard, with the Bristol Evening Post reporting that Leicester City have offered £4.75 million for the player.Citing ‘sources’ within Ashton Gate, the Post indicates that Leicester’s latest bid which has been rejected by City is worth nearly £5 million once add ons have been taken into account. City themselves have categorically stated that they are not prepared to even consider selling Maynard to a club playing in the same division as them. However, Maynard has of yet still refused to sign a new deal with the Robins, a deal which has been on the table since May. The longer it goes without signing a new deal with the club, the more likely Maynard will be sold during the window, as City would be loathed to let the player run down his contract and leave for nothing next summer when his current deal expires. There has been much speculation on the main Bristol City forum OTIB.co.uk concerning the future of Maynard, who joined the club for a record £2.25 million from Crewe in July 2008 on a four year deal. Maynard spent a large part of last season in the treatment room, having undergone surgery for a serious knee injury last summer. When he returned in 2011, he instantly proved he had lost none of his prowess in front of goal and his presence and goals helped lift City into a comfortable mid table position. City’s debts whilst largely covered by former chairman and major shareholder Stephen Lansdown are such that the new board put in place in June are under instructions to reduce them significantly. But it is highly unlikely that Lansdown or newly installed chairman Colin Sextone will allow their most sale-able asset to leave Ashton Gate, for anything other than a considerable amount above and beyond the amount the club paid Crewe. Particularly as Crewe negotiated a sell on percentage clause as part of the deal taking Maynard to Ashton Gate. The best outcome for City, would be for Maynard to sign an extension to his current deal with a clause allowing him to talk to any interested Premier League sides if they are prepared to pay an agreed upon minimum fee for the player. In my opinion, I believe Maynard will be gone by the end of August and the noises coming out of the club, suggest that they are trying to entice Premier League sides to make known their interest. So City can maximise the greatest return possible for Maynard. It's a shame if this source is true, but it may be time to move on.

Add the fact that the new players are all signings and not just loan players, whose heart might not be fully in it (Curtis Davies) I imagine the promotion bonus on offer to the first team squad this year is going to be huge..... Especially for the new signings.
beemeroo Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 I know he isn't here anymore, but it's Curtis Davies, with an E.

As for the keeper commen, i actually play in goal and generally we are judged on clean sheets and goals conceded.

As for the keeper commen, i actually play in goal and generally we are judged on clean sheets and goals conceded. The point is that Nugent isn't really considered a replacement for Yak. He'd more likely play alongside our big money striker or on the wing of a 3. And clearly Schmeichel isn't a world class keeper, but he's still better than Weale. Obviously a keeper can be responsible for goals conceded but our defence was a nightmare last year, no matter who was in goal we'd have conceded a lot still.
Leicfox Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 As for the keeper commen, i actually play in goal and generally we are judged on clean sheets and goals conceded. Yeah keepers are judged on that, but mainly very unfairly. 9X out of 10 it's not the keepers fault as you should know?, yet it still smears their records.

If no premier league clubs enter the bidding and Maynard expresses a desire to leave, then we are in a position to play hard ball over the fee.
Guest Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 It could end up being the most expensive 4 month loan that Bristol ever have. He leaves in Jan for 2 or 3m.
Redski Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 Yeah keepers are judged on that, but mainly very unfairly. 9X out of 10 it's not the keepers fault as you should know?. Unfortunately the league table doesn't state how many we're responsible for but generally better keepers conceed less goals.
Joe. Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 Highly doubt Bristol City will get mugged off in this deal in any way. He'll either sign a contract or go this summer you'd have thought.

If no premier league clubs enter the bidding and Maynard expresses a desire to leave, then we are in a position to play hard ball over the fee. I hope it backfires on them if they continue to act like they are, I thought £3million was generous, never mind £5million. If he decides he wants to leave, which is likely considering he's stalling on a contract, then they might just get a deserved kick in the bollocks for not just biting the bullet, taking the money and run. They are potentially making millions in profit for Maynard so I don't see what their problem is. Plenty of decent cheaper strikers out there, I'm questioning if they've actually tried looking at other strikers. Everyone has their talisman up front, but every player has their price. About time Bristol City realised that. If this transfer saga backfires on them when he could go for a free, I can say they deserve it.
Babylon Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 Unfortunately the league table doesn't state how many we're responsible for but generally better keepers conceed less goals. We'll await someone bidding £1m+ for Weale then because he conceeded one goal less. Absolute codswallop.
