FrankieADZ Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 I don't think agreeing a fee was the problem. The issue was with the player dropping to the Championship and his wages! If thats the case then he'll have to be the beached whale on the Everton bench then.
woody1983 Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 And who thinks Maynard wants to be here if he did he would of handed and request in. Every Player is after money thats what it all boils down to He won't hand a transfer request in because he'll then lose his 10% sell on clause which is fair enough, similar to Fabregas and you can't say he doesn't want to play for Barca just because he hasn't put a request to leave in. At the end of the day these players aren't Leicester fans and are understandably going to look for the best deal they can get. But Yakubu took the piss and I for one are glad we walked away.
Darkon84 Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 Surely this has to be priority now, as Bristol keep being such Fvuckwis over Maynard
FallenAngel Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 For me personally, i would hate to hear that the Yak has walked through our doors and put pen to paper. I think he is greedy, unmotivated, plays his own game (when he can be bothered), he is in-consistant and really doesnt put the effort in that every other lad on the pitch does, he hangs around too much waiting for the ball to come to him and doesnt torment the defence enough. Sure there are the odd moments of greatness but i dont think its enough. (Maybe im greedy too ). Also i dont believe he is the fighting sort of player that we really love to see in our team, you can see the passion some of lads play with, they work damn hard and they earn much respect for it, he would never have my respect even if he could bang in 20 goals a season. He got so much flack from fans when he was with us, and now some of those fans are the ones saying go get him! Sorry but i think just cos we missed out on CMS and Bristol are hanging on for dear life to Maynard (who i think is well over priced now), doesnt mean we should panic and scrape the barrel for any old striker, there's so many out there that could do the job nicely, and cheaper, and have more heart and passion, that we don't even think about. I'm sure Sven has quite a list of targets that can do the job, and i have faith that he will get the right man, just not this one!
Nick Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 Would still love to have Yakubu on board. Nugent, Vassel, Danns, King, Wellens, Abe, Gally - for me are likely to play from midfield/wings or just behind the front man......... Adding the likes of Hargreaves, Maynard, Yakubu to this would make one of the best leicester city squads I can remember in the last decade. I'd like Hargreaves as defensive cover for Abe and Maynard and Yakubu as the front two. What a side that would be. proper football, round pegs, round holes and cover and competition for every position on the pitch. Lovely.
ScouseFox Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 I'd still rather Yakubu than any other striker we've been linked to.

Darkon84 Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 I just dont like his attitude and work rate Its just the type of player he is. As long as he hits the back of the net, what does it matter? People moan about Berbatovs apparent lack of passion and work rate, but he does the job. Taarabt last season for QPR...I didnt see him tracking back every second of the game, but he bagged and got assists for fun. Surely the one thing this club has missed is an out and out quality goalscorer, Yakubu could be that man.

Darkon84 Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 Very true, there is just something about the way he plays, that i couldnt warm to I can appreciate and understand that he is frustrating to watch sometimes, you want him to put more effort in, but Id stilbe happy, as long as the goals kept rolling in, and I think youd change your tne too if he got over 20
FallenAngel Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 Okay, saying NEVER was harsh so i take that back, and yes he is definately frustrating to watch, i found myself getting very wound up when he didnt seem to be putting in much effort at all and you see most of the other lads charging around constantly, he has his great days, and his bad days where he may as well have trotted off the pitch and it perhaps wouldnt have made much difference (slight exageration there ), a 20 goal a season is what every championship side wants, but i just dont think i can warm to him and i believe there are still a section of fans that still feel the same way, would rather we went elsewhere.

And I like him. but it's a poor argument. There is more to football than scoring goals. The bottom line is do we win more with him on the field than with someone in his place. Loved his scoring last season but our disastrous run-in when we had every chance possible of making the playoffs leaves me with questions. Heskey doesn't score like Yak but I'd prefer Heskey holding and feeding our other attacking players. I think we'd win more games that way.

Bit unfair to pin our poor run on Yakubu, there were 10 other players on the field. A pairing of Nugent and Heskey would be great, but for me, wouldnt score enough. Theres no denying that Heskey is an excellent target man and would do well at this level, but unless Nugent manages to find his form of Preston days, I cant see him hitting 20. I hope and pray Im wrong though. I just want to get back to the prem, like everyone else, and if it means we have to watch some lazyness for a while, i'll take it. I see the points everyone makes against Yakubu, as im sure those people see the arguments for him. These conversations can go on all day, but at the end of it, im sure Sven will make the best decision
Bezzanator89 Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 Well it seems that we may have just had a £5million bid for Nicky maynard rejected and I strongly think he's not worth any more than that, so we may have bite that wages bullet and bring in the Yak, as much as a lazy sod that he is.
MikeyT Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 I haven't looked through that last 6 or 7 pages, but didn't Nugent and Yak play together at Pompey, or am i just making that up?
Libertine Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 I haven't looked through that last 6 or 7 pages, but didn't Nugent and Yak play together at Pompey, or am i just making that up? No, Yak was long gone. Nugent only started regularly featuring for Pompey last year.
MikeyT Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 No, Yak was long gone. Nugent only started regularly featuring for Pompey last year. Ahh cool, cheers, thought I'd daydreamed that one up. ha

MikeyT Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 Wishful thinking Haha maybe. Least i got it right that they did play for the same club, albeit at different times.

Wymsey Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 That picture certainly shows he looks older than what he is...
