Dan Posted 2 May 2011 Posted 2 May 2011 Often a decent debate, obviously it's East Midlands but in your opinion, is Leicester more north or south? I think it's more northern personally, seems more alike to northern places than southern, that's just me though.
MPH Posted 3 May 2011 Posted 3 May 2011 what a stupid poll. its in the midlands.. Thats like having a poll for my favorite footy team and only having Forest and Derby as the options. NEITHER!
m00nie Posted 3 May 2011 Posted 3 May 2011 north of london south of leeds.. agree with mph though it neither..
Haydos Posted 3 May 2011 Posted 3 May 2011 Obviously neither. There's no other way around it. If I had a gun to my head.....South?
MC Prussian Posted 3 May 2011 Posted 3 May 2011 Geographically speaking, when you look at the extreme North and South of England, it's closer to the South than the North. But who cares - it's in the middle of it all anyway!
ACF Posted 3 May 2011 Posted 3 May 2011 North of Australia But if you go South, you get there aswell!
FoxyPV Posted 3 May 2011 Posted 3 May 2011 What is the big deal with this? Leicester is in the Midlands. Get over it, you're not southerners.
Webbo Posted 3 May 2011 Posted 3 May 2011 If you pretend that the midlands doesn't exist then most experts on these things say that Leicester is just inside the south.
Ford Super Sunday Posted 3 May 2011 Posted 3 May 2011 We're the sweaty armpit of England. Right in the middle.
Darkon84 Posted 3 May 2011 Posted 3 May 2011 Clues in the name...Midlands. I think they did an actual survey a few years ago and the actual centre of England is in a field near Hinkley
MikeyT Posted 3 May 2011 Posted 3 May 2011 Neither. We are in the middle. "Welcome to Leicestershire, The Heart of Rural England" is the sign i passed on the A46 the other day.
DB11 Posted 3 May 2011 Posted 3 May 2011 I voted for north simply because the football teams in Leicestershire always get put in the Northern Counties, or Conference North etc.
Fosse Boy Posted 3 May 2011 Posted 3 May 2011 Having lived down south and spent years being described as "northern" because of my accent I'm pretty fucking loathed to be lumped in with them. By a similar token the fact that those bating me on were southern means I'd rather not be associated with them either. I'm not northern, I'm not southern, I'm just Leicestershire duck.
samjohnson Posted 3 May 2011 Posted 3 May 2011 We're a "lovely" mix of both. Posh enough for a 3 course meal in Greggs
Finnegan Posted 3 May 2011 Posted 3 May 2011 I don't give a shit how unfashionable it is, we're neither. And having spent time in both, I don't think we're more like one than the other.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 3 May 2011 Posted 3 May 2011 I always play both sides against each other, so whichever is most useful/humorous at the time.
Steven Posted 3 May 2011 Posted 3 May 2011 Clues in the name...Midlands. I think they did an actual survey a few years ago and the actual centre of England is in a field near Hinkley Lindley Hall Farm, Leicestershire. http://www.openstreetmap.org/index.html?mlat=52.561928&mlon=-1.464854&zoom=15&layers=B000FTF
Alexikokopops Posted 3 May 2011 Posted 3 May 2011 Try explaining that Lincoln is in the Midlands and not North to anyone from the South. It's a nightmare.
Finnegan Posted 3 May 2011 Posted 3 May 2011 Try explaining that Lincoln is in the Midlands and not North to anyone from the South. It's a nightmare. Yeah I got that aaaaaaall the time. Although people were baffled by my accent. I got asked if I was American, Australian, South African, Irish, you name it. And this is all from English people (well, Cockneys!)
Kitchandro Posted 3 May 2011 Posted 3 May 2011 If anyone votes either way on this they need to leave Leicester forever
Finnegan Posted 3 May 2011 Posted 3 May 2011 If anyone votes either way on this they need to leave Leicester forever Um... Why?
