lcfcadam Posted 9 May 2011 Posted 9 May 2011 One of my favourite moments on Fawlty Towers is taken from the episode 'The Builders'. Can't find it on YouTube, but its when O'Rielly the builder talks about God and he says 'If the good Lord' twice and then he says it again and Basil cuts in and says 'Is mentioned once more I shall move you closer to him'. Thats great http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XZzc5iTBRsc&feature=related 3.40ish onwards. Quality stuff...
bigjohn Posted 9 May 2011 Posted 9 May 2011 Father Ted Young ones Bottom Family guy On the buses Falwty towers
sdb Posted 9 May 2011 Posted 9 May 2011 Angry Boys, i think that the prison wardan is going to be my fav character. He also made a series before Summer Heights High called We Can Be Heroes. Massive SHH fan, We Can be Heroes also good, but not SHH standards. Mr.G for me, unbelievable character!!
sdb Posted 9 May 2011 Posted 9 May 2011 Oh, and my faves. The Office has to be no.1. Only thing that comes close is The Simpsons. Honourable mentions - OFAH, Inbetweeners (S 1 & 2) and Father Ted. & Partridge obviously!
lcfcadam Posted 9 May 2011 Posted 9 May 2011 I don't get why people rave about it. Yes it's vaguely amusing but it's certainly not clever comedy, rather a succession of puerile cheap jokes designed to get puerile cheap laughs. Not that there's necessarily anything wrong with that I from time to time I suppose, but the way some people go on about it it sounds like they're describing an all-time comedy classic. Which they aren't.

The Doctor Posted 9 May 2011 Posted 9 May 2011 My 13 year old girl watches scrubs.. just not my cup of tea.. Can you say that its ever made you laugh hard ? Just giggles imo.. yes. In paticular pretty much any scene the janitor does & the cut-away dream gags. Edit: Also this: We're not too different you and I, despite your arm-mounted cannon and insatiable taste for human flesh
StanSP Posted 9 May 2011 Posted 9 May 2011 My 13 year old girl watches scrubs.. just not my cup of tea.. Can you say that its ever made you laugh hard ? Just giggles imo.. Yes. This does. All of the time: Must be at least the 3rd or 4th time I've posted it on here!
lavrentis Posted 9 May 2011 Posted 9 May 2011 Recent series of the IT Crowd have been nowhere near the standard of the first two. Matt Berry's character has gotten a bit repetetive now, Chris Morris stole every scene he was in in series one. It's still a good watch, but I'd never class it as 'best ever.' Agree with this. They should show Richmond more as well I think.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 9 May 2011 Posted 9 May 2011 Surprised so many people are saying Fawlty Towers. It is brilliant, with fantastic writing and really does have a lot of genius moments and one liners, but there was only tweleve episodes. Only seen one mention of Dads Army, 80 odd episodes and still gets shown on BBC 2 nowadays. And not seen One Foot in the Grave mentioned much either. That never gets the full praise it deserves, we all have a bit of Victor Meldrew in us. Well I do anwyay! Couldnt pick an out and out favourite too mnay to choose from, but I always thought things liek Vicar of Dibley & Blackadder were very overrated. Top ten from a 2004 public vote: Only Fools and Horses (1981–2003), 71 episodes [1] — 316,657 votes Blackadder (1983–1989), 27 episodes [2] — 282,106 votes The Vicar of Dibley (1994–2007), 20 episodes, 4 shorts, — 212,927 votes Dad's Army (1968–1977), 80 episodes as well as sketches — 174,138 votes Fawlty Towers (1975–1979), 12 episodes — 172,066 votes Yes Minister / Yes, Prime Minister (1980–1984, 1986–1988), 38 episodes in total — 123,502 votes Porridge / Going Straight (1974–1977, 1978), 20 episodes in Porridge, 6 in Going Straight — 93,902 votes Open All Hours (1973, 1976–1985), 26 episodes — 67,237 votes The Good Life (1975–1978), 30 episodes — 40,803 votes One Foot in the Grave (1990–2000), 42 episodes and 2 shorts— 31,410 votes http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Britain%27s_Best_Sitcom
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 9 May 2011 Posted 9 May 2011 @ Finnegan Yeah I'm gonna need a leather jacket for when I'm on my hog and need to go into a controlled slide.
Fosse Boy Posted 9 May 2011 Posted 9 May 2011 Plenty on here I adore, might throw something else into the ring too. Obviously won't be everyone's cuppa but it can do no wrong in my eyes... Chris Morris & Charlie Brooker. Absolute dream team.
Corky Posted 9 May 2011 Posted 9 May 2011 Only Fools and Horses and One Foot in the Grave for me. Like Open All Hours as well.
