Just looked up György Mezey, and he's 69 years old, so he's probably retired.

It's a little obscure but it's not surprise he didn't get another job here.

One thing that does strike me is this though...

That's their former manager. I hope Sousa does well and I think as we saw a lot of it will depend on whether they currently play more "total football" or hoofball but there's going to be a lot of pressure on him I'd imagine

Good luck to him.

I hope he learned from the mistakes he made here though or his stay will be a short one.

Former Portugal midfielder Paulo Sousa will take over the coaching reins of recently crowned Hungarian champions Videoton FC next season.

The Szekesfehervar outfit secured their maiden championship crown on Wednesday but will replace current coach György Mezey at the end of the campaign, with the prospect of UEFA Champions League qualifying lying in wait for Sousa next term. "I've taken note of this decision and wish the club all the best," said Mezey. "I'm proud of what I've done but I couldn't continue to realise my plans to make the club successful in Europe."

Mezey will see out Videoton's remaining fixtures this season, including Tuesday's Hungarian Cup final against Kecskeméti TE, before Sousa begins a three-year stint in June. Aged 40, the former SL Benfica, Juventus and Borussia Dortmund player has previous coaching experience from brief spells with Queens Park Rangers FC, Swansea City FC and Leicester City FC.

Glad he's moved out of English football. I'm sure he will end up a good manager, hopefully he will keep a fitness coach at the new club.

Sounds a bit sly on the old coach if you ask me!

I think he'll do a job for them and not necessarily a bad one <_< . Sousa will be more suited to coaching in Europe I'm sure.....

Despite his near miss with the play offs at Swansea last season, as said by a few on here previously, that was largely because Sousa inherited a footballing/passing side that played to his liking.......thanks to his predecessor Roberto Martinez. Then to go on and inherit N.Pearson's far more english-esque team - one that was well organised, fit and very bulldog-like by comparison and which was more suited to the rough and tumble of the Championship - came as something of a culture shock to him as he didn't have the players at his immediate disposal to turn things around in the way he wanted and not enough time for the team to be successful once they'd possibly adapted to his playing style (although unlikely that would've ever been a success!). Our lack of fitness was also in doubt throughout all of this changeover.

While I was dubious about Sven coming in at the start (and not Martin O'Neill for a second stint), Sven has since proved that he was more than ok at this level to manage - although the jury is still out a bit I suppose and next season will be the one to properly judge him. Sousa was not suited to managing at the Championship tier/level of english football by radically trying to alter the whole way a team plays when experimenting as he went along, game by game, in the way he and his staff were amongst workmanlike players.....whereby the only certainty looked like relegation to League One, something which would've been calamitous all over again after all the hard work Pearson had put in before him.

think people forget that he almost got swansea to the play offs last season. ian holloway didn't do great here but he's done alright for himself at Blackpool hasn't he? just because someone doesnt succeed here doesnt make them shit.

Maybe some people (myself included) start threads about Sousa in the LCFC forum as they rarely look at the General Football forum, and turn to the Leicester City forum for any thing "Leicester-related", as it is advertised....and see Sousa as having such a connection, as a recent manager.

I understand that he could now be seen as having no relationship to LCFC as he left a few months ago. If so, why does the Leicester City forum contain threads relating to baseless speculation about a former loan player (Curtis Davies) and about a defender who left 3 years ago (Stearman), as well as the thoughts of a player who retired 10 years ago (Walsh) on his then teammates (Lennon/Heskey)? Wouldn't it be easier to leave anything with even a tenuous LCFC connection in the LCFC forum and to use the General Football & Sport forum for completely unconnected topics (e.g. West Ham's relegation, Champions League final etc.)?

As for Sousa, it is quite true that he may come good elsewhere, as Holloway did, but he'd need to have been on a steep learning curve after the fiasco here. I'm not sure how much credit he should get for almost getting Swansea into the play-offs....didn't the managers immediately before and after him achieve just that, suggesting he may have under-achieved with the squad at his disposal?

Good luck to Paulo. When he talked about how football should be played it made my mouth water. Shame he could not put that into practice here.
