Paul Konchesky - SIGNED

Agree with you, I'm disappointed with this signing if we sign him masailia sounded much more promising.

Based on what? A couple of videos and one opinion of a Maccabi Haifa fan? Let's be honest, you, like 99% of this board have probably never watch him play 90 minutes. Compare that to Konchesky who's been solid in the Premier League for a good 5/6 years. I'm pleased with this.

All the people expressing disappointment at Konchesky instead of Maseilla, has anyone thought that Sven may have dropped the Maseilla deal because it was only a loan and went for Konchesky when he found he could get him permanent. Sven has said he would prefer not to loan players this year, so maybe that's why he's decided to go this way.

Add in the fact that Maseilla might not settle in England, he might not settle in Leicester, he might not be able to compete in the championship (he probably could do all those things it's just slightly more risky) he also goes missing at a key point in the season for the African Nations.

Sven looks to be building a side of proven Championship players who are either among the best players at their clubs or who have been promoted out of the Championship several times before

Liverpool FC article/perspective on the possible departure of Paul Konchesky.

The Daily Telegraph believe that Liverpool left back Paul Konchesky is on the verge of completing a move to Leicester City for a reported £1.5million. He is expected to fly out to Sweden to join up with Sven-Goran Eriksson’s side tonight for a medical. Although the Reds will have to take a loss on the player, I think most would agree it will be good for us to get him off our books.

Many will slate Paul for being a poor full back, and not worthy of playing for a club the size of Liverpool, and although these criticisms maybe true, it must be said the 30 year old never complained and was the consummate professional despite the stick he had to receive both for his poor performances and for the comments by his mother.

Konchesky cannot be ridiculed purely because of the comments of his mother though, and I would like to say good luck to Paul if he does depart the club soon. He was never going to turn down a move to a club like Liverpool, especially late on in his career, and the blame must be put squarely on Roy Hodgson rather than on Konchesky’s shoulders for bringing him to the club.

It is not Paul’s fault he didn’t have the quality necessary to play at the level demanded of every Reds player and hopefully he will find his level again back in the Championship, although I still think he scan play at a lower Premier League club. In any case he will probably get promoted with Leicester next campaign anyway considering the amount that Sven is spending.

Looking back at last August, it shows both the desperate situation the club was in and the poor judgement of Roy Hodgson that we shelled out the money we did for Konchesky. I think when he did sign, most Reds fans at least were willing to give him a chance, but it became quickly apparent that he was out of his depth. The most notable error came against Tottenham when he allowed Aaron Lennon to ghost past him in the final minute to seal a 2-1 victory, in a match where the Reds were leading.

The fact that Kenny Dalglish didn’t even give Konchesky a chance when he was appointed Caretaker manager in January indicates how below the standard necessary the 30 year old was for King Kenny. He was quickly shipped out to Nottingham Forest out on loan and it looks that in all likelihood that he will never be seen in a Liverpool shirt again.

Konchesky kind of personified the dark period in the club’s recent history, and hopefully with his departure, along with at least another ten players, the Reds can rebuild an move to bigger and better things. Hopefully Konchesky can have happier time at Leicester and good luck to him too.

Any thoughts anyone?

I know this is off topic but are you happy with the calibre of player your reportedly interested in, I know I have my reservations about SSL and Konchesky but George boating and Jonathan greening will they be able to cut it...btw this is simply based on rumour so don't shoot me down ;)

Greening we're kind of ok with. Should be able to do alright surrounded by our fast and showy youthful squad. Boateng.....not so much. He's got to be pushing 36 and history (Lennon/Cole) teaches us that once a players legs go, the're gone. We're also being linked with Zenden who I suppose would be an ok option for maybe 60mins or so or off the bench. Our main problem seems to be that everyone's chasing the same players and we just won't pay over the odds.

The bottom line for us is though...we need bodies...anyone will do at the moment. We don't have enough first team players to fill the bench at the minute!

...and yes, most of the blame is being put at Mark Arthurs door.

Why on earth did they get rid of Billy Davies? I wasn't a fan of him but I must say he did do well for you guys... what's the opinions of McClaren too?

Sacked Billy cos he was a moaning little shit who ending up putting his job on the line over to or three "stella signings" (Konshesky & Boyd Mostly) who cost a fortune. He essentially said give me these players and I'll take you up, and if I don't I'll leave.

Ironically enough McClaren has started saying the same sorts of thing BD did throughout his reign. "Working hard to sign players/ Recommended players and we'll see what happens/must add to the squad" etc...

Looks like it's gonna be a long season for us reds :(

McClaren for Billy is a backward step imo...

Did post video of cheap shot based on age of signings, decided to be nice. :D

Joking aside, I can see why a lot of Forest fans aren't looking forward to the season ahead.

Liverpool hope to start clearing their deadwood this week with Paul Konchesky considering a move to Leicester City and Lille keen on signing Milan Jovanovic.

Konchesky followed Roy Hodgson to Anfield from Fulham for £4m last summer and, like his former manager, has endured a dreadful time on Merseyside. He spent the end of last season on loan at Nottingham Forest, and Liverpool are prepared to accept £1.5m for the left-back, providing he agrees to join Sven-Goran Eriksson's team in the Championship. The 30-year-old has been granted permission to join Leicester at a pre-season training camp in Sweden where he will undergo a medical.

Jovanovic, who earned £120,000 a week during the first year of his contract with Liverpool, is also surplus to requirements and has attracted offers from Olympiakos, Anderlecht and Lille. The Serbia international said: "Lille, like Anderlecht, is a strong option. This is a good club, which plays at the top of French football, a high-level competition, and who will also play in the group stage of the Champions League. For me, that's interesting."
