Cropwellfox Posted 2 July 2011 Posted 2 July 2011 Hopeful of 3 doesn't sound overly promising, we need at least 2 defenders and 2 strikers just based on squad numbers at the moment, let alone quality Agree, Sven's said he himself wants to get to a squad of 20 competitive outfield players and 3 good goalkeeping options. As it stands today i can count 15 outfield players and 2 keepers (making an assumption that although highly promising Sven won't count Smith, Schlupp or Taft amongst this number) who fit the bill in our squad. Therefore maybe he means 3 are likely to arrive pre Sweden, and we may need to go back into the market after this time. If the talk about chasing Mills is true i'd imagine he wants to see whether he can get him in before moving onto other defensive targets. I reckon midfield numbers are complete, and we require LB (masilela), 2 X CBs, one of whom could fill in at RB, a CF and a wide striker, possibly with an experienced keeper to fulfil the 3rd keeper position. I wouldn't be surprised if names such as Evans, Pilkington and the like are in talks for if Dyer & Howard move on during pre-season - because at the moment i'm sure that Sven would count both within his squad. One things for sure, we won't be signing half of the number of players we're being linked with, Sven seems to want a quite tight squad of first choice players.

If Sven should decide to pick him..... what would that say to Sven? That his judgement means nothing? Do you not think the other players would be effected? i mean... goodness me.... How old are you?

We have three keepers (remember Logan?), so that should be sorted unless he or Weale are sold. I wouldn't be surprised to see some more players leave too. Berner, Neilson, N'Guessan, Moussa, Kermo, Kennedy, Crncic, Moreno (if he's still here) and maybe even Waghorn don't look likely to become regulars this season, so they might be sold or loaned out. And we don't know whether Tunchev will stay on. To me the squad still looks wafer thin or short on quality apart from our central midfield positions: Kasper/Weale/Logan Peltier/X - Bamba/X? - Y/Tunchev? - Masilela?/Berner? Wellens/Danns - King/Peltier? - Oakley/Abe Vassell/N'Guessan? - Howard/Waghorn? - Gallagher/Dyer? Only about 10 outfield players are safe at this stage

More cover at left-back will therefore be needed. That'll be why enquiries have been made about Ben Mee. I suspect that this might be completed shortly too, unless Sven has another ace up his sleeve.

Interestingly, looking at the qualifiers, they've not conceded a goal yet in four matches!
