Jack Hobbs

Today from The Blue Army:

Leicester City are willing to sell Jack Hobbs to Hull City – but not until Sven-Goran Eriksson has found replacements.

The 22-year-old defender does not appear to be in manager Eriksson's plans for next season after finishing the last campaign on loan at the KC Stadium.

Hull have tabled a bid in the region of £800,000, but it does not meet City's asking price for their former player of the year.

Sources, however, say the clubs are not too far apart in their valuation and a deal could still be done.

City will not part with Hobbs until they know which defenders they will be able to bring in next season.

Eriksson wants defensive loanees Jeff Bruma and Ben Mee.

But Bruma looks set to join Hamburg on a two-year loan from Chelsea, and Manchester City have not yet made a decision on Mee's future.

Miguel Vitor has also returned to Benfica after his loan spell last season, and Eriksson was trying to contact Benfica's director of football, Rui Costa, to see if he can bring the 21-year-old back to the Walkers Stadium.

Besides Hobbs, City currently have only Sol Bamba as a recognised and fully-fit central defender.

Moreno did not make one appearance under Eriksson last term and Aleksandar Tunchev must still prove his fitness to earn a contract during pre-season.

Meanwhile, Dany N'Guessan has been on trial at French club SM Caen, according to reports in the French media.

The 23-year-old winger, who finished the season on loan at Southampton, is said by newspaper Ouest France to have been with the French Division One side. That would confirm that N'Guessan has no future at City.

The Frenchman has never fulfilled his potential with City. He made only five starts and three substitute appearances last season, his last coming as a substitute in the 1-0 win against Preston in October. He also had a loan spell at Scunthorpe United before Southampton.

Glad Sven's turned down £800k, wish Hobbs all the best.

Still feel if Pearson had never left he'd have become a club legend.

What do you mean 'we let fryatt go, look what happened'?

What happened? The way I saw it we sold a player who didn't want to be here for £1.5million pounds so it was a win win situation.

Well Hull signed Fryatt for 1.5m and then bagged a minimum of 90m when his 20 goals got them promoted.

Or was that a dream?

Errm time to move on.

If Pearson hadn't left we'd be a mediocre Championship club playing hoofball with Matt Oakley stuck out on the wing...

Class act in the mould of Wayne Brown. Can't pass a ball to save his life, but can kick it hard and high? Other than that, I can't work out what you're trying to say.

Despite the fact we narrowly missed out In the Play Offs?

And no matter what you say, hoofing from the back is much better than passing it across our own 18 yard box. How many times have we given it away by doing that? Take last home game of last season for example. If PVA or Bruma hits it up we may or may not gain possession, but as it happens we try to pass it out and concede yet again.

Oh **** off Sven selling our young talent only to buy in more foreigners (pantzil is it now?).

:sge: =

What talent as in........he can't pass a football?

Yes Sven, what are you doing selling our average championship quality players to replace them with real International quality players who will be good in the Premiership.

Me and acooling08 want to spend the rest of our lives supporting an average team in the football league rather than being in the top flight, you ****!

I thought the box was 18 yards

Well considering he did pretty well with Hull, i'm not sure if you could call it an over achievement, however, it's all in the past now, so i'm not sure why people are arguing about this? :dunno:

Oh yes, its because its FoxesTalk

We'll never know but Nigel almost got us back to back promotions. To sack him was INSANE.

It's a defenders job to defend, surprisingly enough. Hobbs was good in the air, good in the tackle and would put his body on the line. He was an important part of a great defence under Pearson.

It's the midfielders job to pass the ball. Passing it out of defence leads to giving it away in a very dangerous area! Look how well Sven's defenders did last season.

Do you know anything at all about football, that isn't totally indicative of someone who hasn't been to a match since 1959.

A defence that consisted of most of the midfield, hence the lack of goals under Pearson.

Tell you what, watch the second goal at Derby again. Because if we'd have followed your philosophy then that moment would never have happened.

One needs a huge supply of smoke and mirrors to fool an entire league over a 46+2 game season.

Back on topic: if Hobbs's value is much higher in Pearson's system than it is to Sven's--particularly considering the other options Sven may have this summer--then so be it. I don't think Hobbs is so bad with the ball at his feet, though, so I'd be a little disappointed if Sven gave up on him while he's still young.

(Of course, I won't care that much next spring if LCFC's player dealings lead to promotion.)

He wasn't sacked though. He may well have been and they probably made it clear that he was no longer wanted by not standing in his way to join Hull but it is obvious that he did not go for footballing reasons. He went because he was not considered a big enough name and MM wanted to sell up.

I don't want to go one about Hobbs but if people would rather their centre backs be good passers than good defenders then the priorities are wrong.

Basics first, that's what Sousa failed to grasp.

How about we have some ambition and sign players who can do both?

Good idea. Though I'm not convinced Bruma is one of those players. Vitor and Mee perhaps.
