Haydos Posted 9 June 2011 Posted 9 June 2011 How about we don't choose extremes all the time and accept that he's a a great 3rd choice centre back.
accessory Posted 9 June 2011 Posted 9 June 2011 Yes Sven, what are you doing selling our average championship quality players to replace them with real International quality players who will be good in the Premiership. Me and acooling08 want to spend the rest of our lives supporting an average team in the football league rather than being in the top flight, you ****! One would never guess that Hobbs was fans' and players' player of the year in 2010, or that many on here and elsewhere were hailing him as a potential England defender. With a manager who believes in him, and a defensive partner who lasted longer than 2 weeks, he could at least yet reach Premier level.
shailen Posted 9 June 2011 Posted 9 June 2011 Not going to ever fit under sven system, although hobbs was a great player under pearson, he just isnt going to fit in a system where we play from the back! Good luck hobbs, i am sure we will regret selling you as you will shine under pearson like fryatt has, but he will never be the player he was under svens management.
hackneyfox Posted 9 June 2011 Posted 9 June 2011 How about we don't choose extremes all the time and accept that he's a a great 3rd choice centre back. Nope, he isn't that good, not in a Sven team.
Haydos Posted 9 June 2011 Posted 9 June 2011 Nope, he isn't that good, not in a Sven team. What kind of standard are you looking for on the bench next season? Example me.
Kitchandro Posted 9 June 2011 Posted 9 June 2011 Hobbs is a good young defender. He was our player of the season last year FFS. He's nowhere near as bad as some people are making out. Like I said, I'm not going to moan about us selling him. If we have 5 better centre backs next season I'm not bothered. But most Championship sides would want him. He's a good Championship defender.
hackneyfox Posted 9 June 2011 Posted 9 June 2011 What kind of standard are you looking for on the bench next season? Example me. Example me? What a horrible expression, have you been to the staes on your holidays? Well Vitor and Mee are better, so is Bamba, Tunchev should he regain full fitness, Sven wants Bruma back so unless he wants to play him as a defensive midfielder that would make Hobbs about 6th choice.
Corky Posted 9 June 2011 Posted 9 June 2011 I don't want to go one about Hobbs but if people would rather their centre backs be good passers than good defenders then the priorities are wrong. Basics first, that's what Sousa failed to grasp. You can have both. I do think Hobbs can be a good squad player for us but Sven wants us to play a certain way and Hobbs doesn't seem to fit into that style. He's not a bad player by any means but perhaps he suits a certain way compared to another?

But hopefully we're building a team that is a lot better than 'most' championship clubs and will be capable of Premiership football the following season.

Vitor and Mee I'd agree with and I'd be delighted to see them here (despite Vitor seeming unlikely) but regarding Tunchev I'd go back to a point I made earlier: settled CB pairing, something you won't get with Tunchev either. I can't see him starting as 1st choice this year. I suppose if you look at what Hobbs wants, he won't be happy to be any lower than 3rd choice Tunchev, Mee/Bruma, Bamba and TBC would do for me. I would prefer only one out of Mee and Bruma, Mee probably edges it because he looks more comfortable whereas Bruma looks like he might need his hand holding a bit. The 'TBC' would ideally have a bit of Championship experience as we lack that in the other 3.
Kitchandro Posted 9 June 2011 Posted 9 June 2011 But hopefully we're building a team that is a lot better than 'most' championship clubs and will be capable of Premiership football the following season. Yes I know that's what I'm getting at. I'm just saying some of the criticism is a little harsh. If we didn't have all this money and contacts we probably wouldn't be wanting rid of him.
hackneyfox Posted 9 June 2011 Posted 9 June 2011 But we do have money and contacts so I'm happy to see him go, that's nothing against him, I'm just glad that we can afford and attract better players nowadays.
fleckneymike Posted 9 June 2011 Posted 9 June 2011 I think 800k for Hobbs is very good money. Whether you like him or not he's not going to play regularly, if at all, under Sven. We should cash in now.

LCFC_FoRdY Posted 10 June 2011 Posted 10 June 2011 Jack Hobbs is too good for £800,000. If Sven is really that keen to get rid of him then he should try and sell him for £1.25 - £1.5 million, he's young and a good player...
MGLCFC Posted 10 June 2011 Posted 10 June 2011 He's young and an average player with potential to be very good - just like Waghorn. The problem is we can't wait for that potetial to be realised as the owners want Premier League next year.
Karljohn Posted 10 June 2011 Posted 10 June 2011 I dont understand the logic behind letting Hobbs go, I can perhaps understand more if we had a huge surplus at centre back but with just Sol in there surely Jack must be wanting to fight for his place? I seem to recall him stating upon his departure to Hull that he hoped for first team action and that he would show Sven exactly what he could do and come back in the summer hungry for his place back. In all fairness to the lad you don't get player of the season turning in crap performances, and it was Tevez that ripped him a new arsehole of all people that showed Jack's defensive frailties up in Manchester. There is absolutely no reason for me to believe that Mee, Bruma etc will turn out any better, we've all seen with Waghorn that your first season on loan doesnt mean your going to turn in an even better performance the following season. If Sven doesnt rate the lad then fair enough, but at least lets put somedefensive bodies on the pitch to benchmark against Hobbs in the first place.
Dan Posted 12 June 2011 Posted 12 June 2011 Errm time to move on. Oh, so because I've not forgot everything Hobbs ever did for us, then I've not moved on from Leicester under Pearson/Sousa. This forum's become fvcking dire.
teblin Posted 12 June 2011 Posted 12 June 2011 I like Hobbs but if we are going to play the game sven wants he won't fit in. Many legends of our past would also have struggled in a passing side.
RyanB89 Posted 12 June 2011 Posted 12 June 2011 I dont think we should sell him even though its pretty obvious he wont play next season, hes still young and theres still a good chance he could become a very good defender. We should just loan him to hull for the season
Bettsj2 Posted 12 June 2011 Posted 12 June 2011 We're always banging on about only wanting players who 'want' to play for Leicester. Hobbs wants to leave. Bye Jackie.
fleckneymike Posted 12 June 2011 Posted 12 June 2011 how do you know he wants to leave? Becuase he's left once already.
RyanB89 Posted 12 June 2011 Posted 12 June 2011 Well if pearson offered to take him on loan at hull for the season rather than sitting on the bench at leicester why wouldnt he go? doesnt mean he doesnt want to play for leicester anymore Although admittedely i dont know if he does or not
