StarFox Posted 6 June 2011 Posted 6 June 2011 From the Mirror. http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/Transfer-news-Hull-offer-Leicester-800k-for-defender-Jack-Hobbs-article744965.html "Hull have tabled a £800,000 bid for Leicester defender Jack Hobbs. The former Liverpool starlet impressed on loan at the KC Stadium last season and now boss Nigel Pearson wants to sign him permanently. Hobbs, 22, is surplus to requirements at Leicester under Sven Goran Eriksson and the Tigers hope to have a deal wrapped up this week.". Not much has been reported by the Mirror but I think it's pretty obvious that Nigel wants him. Will Sven let him go? I think for £800,000 Leicester would be silly to let him go.
Leicester_Loyal Posted 6 June 2011 Posted 6 June 2011 Don't think he'll be in Svens plans, but I'd try and get more than £800k for him.
Wymsey Posted 6 June 2011 Posted 6 June 2011 He's worth more than that. He's decent and can yet be improved more under Sven. I'd keep him personally. Pi$$ off Pearson.
Guest NGoloMode Posted 7 June 2011 Posted 7 June 2011 Can't see us getting more than that. Would be different if he was wanted by Sven but someone is going to take advantage of Hobbs not being part of first team plans and get him on the cheap.
StarFox Posted 7 June 2011 Author Posted 7 June 2011 I know he might fit in Svens current plans for the squad but I think Sven needs to realise the Nigel see's potential in Jack Hobbs and so does many of us Leicester fans. Sometimes I wonder if Sven is often taking the easy route by just buying loads of players. Please Sven, bring in some quality players this summer but also show your worth by getting the best out of Jack Hobbs and Martyn Waghorn.
ajthefox Posted 7 June 2011 Posted 7 June 2011 We might try and get more but we've seen Hobbs play in blue for the last time imo
topharry123 Posted 7 June 2011 Posted 7 June 2011 If it's true I think he's gone. If he was in Sven's plans at all he would have played last season for us. Will be sad to see him go.
stu Posted 7 June 2011 Posted 7 June 2011 Double that we reportedly paid for him? For a player that will most probably never get in this seasons team? Snap their hands off...
muzzy1981 Posted 7 June 2011 Posted 7 June 2011 Would rather we bought before sold, at least he has solid champ experience. If we sign to new cb then he can go imo
Guest ttfn Posted 7 June 2011 Posted 7 June 2011 Breaking news: I saw jack Hobbs at gatwick airport on Saturday in a queue for an easyjet flight. The only possible conclusion is that he's signing for olympiakos
Hack Posted 7 June 2011 Posted 7 June 2011 Would rather we bought before sold, at least he has solid champ experience. If we sign to new cb then he can go imo Don't think it makes all that much difference if we sell first or not. It is only early June. If Hobbs isn't part of the club plans and you have an acceptable offer you take it. Helps Sven and the Thai's with how much they are going to have to spend by producing some sale revenue first. It's not as if the season is about to begin and we have no one to play for us it is 2 months away.
Roy Cropper Posted 7 June 2011 Posted 7 June 2011 £800k for a centre half that can't pass a ball or organise a defence. Yes please.
adamkhalifa Posted 7 June 2011 Posted 7 June 2011 With all money Hull have, 800k for Hobbs is a joke. Was the highest rated player previous to last season. Hobbs needs a strong leader to bring the best out of him. Whether Sven realises this is a different matter.
Ric Flair Posted 7 June 2011 Posted 7 June 2011 £800,000 is a piss take. £1.5 million at the bare minimum.
okie fox Posted 7 June 2011 Posted 7 June 2011 Hobbs played well under the Pearson system, but did not do well last season when our defence started playing further up the pitch. So he needs to go to Hull.
davieG Posted 7 June 2011 Posted 7 June 2011 Merc Hull City have made an approach to buy Leicester City defender Jack Hobbs, the Mercury understands. However, City are in no rush to sell Hobbs, inset, who was the club's player of the year a season ago. Hull have identified the 22-year-old as their No.1 transfer target this summer and are believed to have tabled an offer for his services. The exact fee the Tigers have offered is not known, but City have yet to give an answer and the bid has been left on hold. Several other clubs are believed to be interested in Hobbs, who fell out of favour at City following the arrival of Sven-Goran Eriksson last October before joining former manager Nigel Pearson at the KC Stadium on loan in February. City are waiting to see what other offers they receive for the former Liverpool centre-back, who has two years left on his contract. Eriksson is likely to sell Hobbs, who is said to favour a permanent move to Hull to be reunited with Pearson and striker Matty Fryatt. But City will not accept any offer which does not meet their valuation of a player who was on the verge of an England Under-21 call-up 12 months ago, and they are in no hurry to accept any offers, certainly as the defence is an area that Eriksson has admitted he is very keen to strengthen. City currently have only Hobbs, Sol Bamba, Aleksandar Tunchev and Moreno on their books who can play in the centre-back position . Eriksson is hoping to be able to bring back Jeff Bruma for another loan spell from Chelsea and Ben Mee from Manchester City, but has to wait and see what their clubs decide to do. Bruma has been strongly linked to a two-year deal with German club Hamburg. Once Eriksson brings in new defenders, he may then decide to allow Hobbs to leave. Meanwhile, City must decide this week whether to join the chase to sign Crystal Palace midfielder Neil Danns. The 28-year-old, a free agent this summer, is reportedly holding talks with the Tigers later this week. That means that City will have to make their move soon.
Head Honcho Posted 7 June 2011 Posted 7 June 2011 I'd like to see him stay but there's no point in him staying just to sit on the bench at best. He's got to think of his career and that means playing week in week out. We should at the very least get a decent sell on % for him, don't know if Liverpool have one on him currently! The response from city so far is the correct one.

Hobbs needs a strong leader to bring the best out of him. Whether Sven realises this is a different matter. You can't build a defence around a player that needs another defender nannying him all game. It doesn't make sense...

The response from city so far is the correct one. Agree with this. £800,000 wouldn't be bad business especially if we got a sell on % or a rising fee dependant on appearences/Hull's success etc. It will be sad to see him go as it is with any young player with potential but he's not wanted for some reason or other. Hobbs and Bamba would be suicide.
VampLCFC Posted 7 June 2011 Posted 7 June 2011 Maybe try and hold out for £1m, we will never get £1.5, we all know he isn't in Sven's plans, he didn't play him and then shipped him out on loan to Hull. Pointless holding onto him, he was my favourite player in the League 1 season and also last season under Nigel Pearson, but this is a new chapter now, we have Sven in charge, Sven doesn't want him, it's as simple as that really. We paid £400,000, so if we double our money at £800,000 fair enough Best of luck Jack, sorry it didn't quite work out here for you, we were all talking about you being club captain and becoming a club legend 12 months ago, now it seems your on your way out the door, that's football I guess!!
Happy Fox Posted 7 June 2011 Posted 7 June 2011 http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11095_6969239,00.html Skysports.com understands Hull City are closing in on the signing of Leicester defender Jack Hobbs. The Tigers are keen to tie up a permanent deal for Hobbs after he impressed on loan at the KC Stadium. Leicester are thought to be willing to offload Hobbs at the right price as he does not figure in Sven Goran Eriksson's long-term plans. Hull have firmed up their interest with a bid in the region of £800,000 for the former Liverpool youngster. Tigers boss Nigel Pearson is keen to push through a deal as soon as possible and he is waiting to see if Leicester will accept their offer for Hobbs.
Wonk_V71 Posted 7 June 2011 Posted 7 June 2011 Ideally If we are going to sell Hobbs I would want to get someone else in first. He is a decent enough player and for that price a bit of a steal. I just hope selling Hobbs and Fryatt doesn't bite us in the ass next season.
MPH Posted 7 June 2011 Posted 7 June 2011 The Ball is in our courts, not Hull's. We hold his contract, several other clubs are interested in him and we are under no financial pressures to sell. and who in their right mind would accept their first bid in a situation like this? Hull know this too. He won't go for less than 1m.
