21st Century Fox Posted 7 July 2012 Posted 7 July 2012 Papa Cisse and Demba Ba both excluded from Senegal's Olympic Squad.
accessory Posted 8 July 2012 Posted 8 July 2012 It's because their players aren't good enough to get into the squad. The Welsh FA didn't want their players involved but they got picked because they have good players. A couple of Celtic players might have made the cut. However, Neil Lennon didn't want to release them because Celtic have Champions League qualifying rounds at that time.
Mack Posted 8 July 2012 Posted 8 July 2012 I've changed my mind about this tournament. It's a joke tournament, Football should not be part of the Olympics and Pearce has taken the whole thing far far too seriously. I dont know who gave Pearce the job but for me it was a wrong move. What was needed was a yes man clown to select all the has been clowns ie: Beckham to fill the stadiums and generate the bullshit hype. No one gives a monkeys if we win this tournament or not, so you may as well have some fun with it.
Corky Posted 8 July 2012 Posted 8 July 2012 Or, as it's a one-off event, Pearce wants to do as well as he can. People have paid for tickets and want a committed performance from the team.
foxfanazer Posted 8 July 2012 Posted 8 July 2012 I know this question is off-topic and you could say it about any player but do you think England would've win a major tournament if Giggs was English? Left wing was a big problem for us for years
Mack Posted 8 July 2012 Posted 8 July 2012 Or, as it's a one-off event, Pearce wants to do as well as he can. People have paid for tickets and want a committed performance from the team. Most of them will be the happy clappy 6 trips to the toilet a half & hardly pay attention brigade. They'd much rather Beckham and the other joke selections had been made. In hindsight I think it's all been taken far too seriously.

I'd be delighted if we could win, as hopefully it'd bode well for the England in two or three tournaments time. Tournament experience isn't a bad thing, and we, as a nation, always bang on about how we should be bringing more and more decent youth players through, but as soon as they get an opportunity like this, half of us complain about it.

Left wing was a big problem for us for years No. One player doesn't make a team, One player can improve a team, but we have needed ALOT of improvement, something I don't think 1 player could influence on his own. Besides I think as individuals we have had some of the world's best players in the past - They just don't play as a team, don't seem together for England - Until the last tournament when we did seem to have abit of a togetherness and team spirit and I think we had improved abit purely down to that.

Ryan Giggs is captain.. That up and coming young Englishman! At least he will get to go to a tournament at last, even if it is a two bob one!

Not saying I think we would, just be interesting to see what people think. Tend to agree with your post to be honest

foxfanazer Posted 8 July 2012 Posted 8 July 2012 No ones taking this tournament seriously Brazil's squad is ridiculous!
Ashley Posted 8 July 2012 Posted 8 July 2012 I personally think Brazil will win the Football. The squad they have is amazing. Hulk Pato Neymar forward line? Wow.
AdamN Posted 8 July 2012 Posted 8 July 2012 Ryan Giggs is captain.. That up and coming young Englishman! At least he will get to go to a tournament at last, even if it is a two bob one! I didn't know our team consisted of 11 Ryan Giggs. Wonder what he's like in goal?
Guest Bilo Posted 8 July 2012 Posted 8 July 2012 A couple of Celtic players might have made the cut. However, Neil Lennon didn't want to release them because Celtic have Champions League qualifying rounds at that time. Don't forget the fact that a great many Celtic fans would be deeply unhappy with their players wearing the Union Jack shirt as well.
Corky Posted 8 July 2012 Posted 8 July 2012 Most of them will be the happy clappy 6 trips to the toilet a half & hardly pay attention brigade. They'd much rather Beckham and the other joke selections had been made. In hindsight I think it's all been taken far too seriously. Yes, they would much rather others were picked. But Pearce didn't want them and that's tough. Fans don't pick club sides, international sides and this team as well.
Guest Bilo Posted 8 July 2012 Posted 8 July 2012 Brazil - GOLD Spain - SILVER Mexico - BRONZE I just don't think Great Britain really have enough quality to win it. I daresay the likes of Gareth Bale and Jack Wilshere would have made a difference, but their absences will be keenly felt.
Pride_Of_The_Midlands Posted 8 July 2012 Posted 8 July 2012 Giggs named Captain. Isn't this the same Ryan Giggs who couldn't be bothered to play for Wales? 64 caps is a poor return when you consider how long he has been playing.
Guest Bilo Posted 8 July 2012 Posted 8 July 2012 Giggs clearly lived to regret deciding to play for Wales instead of England.

Mack Posted 9 July 2012 Posted 9 July 2012 I didn't know our team consisted of 11 Ryan Giggs. Wonder what he's like in goal? The point was if Pearce's motive was to give young player's tournament experience then letting one of them Captain the side surely would have been useful. I think Pearce thinks he has assembled a squad that can win, the bloke is deluded.
21st Century Fox Posted 9 July 2012 Posted 9 July 2012 Uruguay Olympic squad: Goalkeepers: Martin Campana (Cerro Largo), Leandro Gelpi (Penarol) Defenders: Sebastian Coates (Liverpool), Diego Polenta (Genoa), Ramon Arias (Defensor Sporting), Alexis Rolin (Nacional), Emiliano Albin (Penarol). Midfielders: Egidio Arevalo Rios (Palermo), Nicolas Lodeiro (Ajax), Matias Aguirregaray (Palermo), Gaston Ramirez (Bologna), Maximiliano Calzada (Nacional), Diego Rodriguez (Defensor Sporting) Forwards: Luis Suarez (Liverpool), Edinson Cavani (Napoli), Abel Hernandez (Palermo), Jonathan Urretaviscaya (Vitoria Guimaraes), Tabare Viudez (Nacional) Stand-by: Alejandro Silva (Fenix), Marcelo Silva (Penarol), Federico Pintos (Defensor Sporting), Martin Rodriguez (Wanderers)
MrSpaM Posted 9 July 2012 Posted 9 July 2012 It's looking more and more likely that teams that didnt qualify for the euros have a massive advantage over the ones that did
