OriginalRobboFOX Posted 21 June 2011 Posted 21 June 2011 Team GB has been officially accepted as a football team for the 2012 Olympics today. Comprising Eng, Scot, Wal, and NI and all four corresponding FA's have been guaranteed autonomy by FIFA for future FIFA tournaments. So based on this what would be your Team GB starting XI with 7 subs and a manager.... Go!! Ps. It's actually 15 under 23's and 3 of any age.
Webbo Posted 21 June 2011 Posted 21 June 2011 I don't care. I just hope they make the semis at Wembley .

Itsthejoeker Posted 21 June 2011 Posted 21 June 2011 Well maybe Wales can take Cardiff and Swansea back...
accessory Posted 21 June 2011 Posted 21 June 2011 It's a guarantee that David Beckham will take one of the overage slots. The Olympics will be viewed as the perfect swansong to his career.
AjcW Posted 21 June 2011 Posted 21 June 2011 GK: Joe Hart DL: Ryan Bertrand DR: Kyle Walker DC: Phil Jones DC: Craig Cathcart/ Jonny Evans MR: David Bekham ML: Gareth Bale MC: Jordan Henderson MC: Aaron Ramsey/ Charlie Adam ST: Wayne Rooney ST: Daniel Sturridge Really struggling to see any/many Northern Ireland or Scots Players in there. As for the manager.... Id imagine, although I believe he should be sacked and never allowed to manage again, it will be stuart pearce(easy option) although I would like it to be whoever performs best out of Brendan Rogers and Paul Lambert in the premier league this season.
Fosse Boy Posted 21 June 2011 Posted 21 June 2011 No fan of "Britishness" but it would've been a tad embarrassing having no 'Team GB' (hate that phrase) on our own turf when we spawned the sport iself. So yeah, good stuff.
John Matrix Posted 21 June 2011 Posted 21 June 2011 Well maybe Wales can take Cardiff and Swansea back... clapping
Mack Posted 25 June 2011 Posted 25 June 2011 What a ****ing joke. Just for once these small minded FA's could have put the chip on their shoulders to one side and done something good for the whole of Great Britiain.... but no... the ***** have to spoil it as usual with petty politics and one one-upmanship.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 25 June 2011 Posted 25 June 2011 Not bothered, I could think of nothing worse than 'team GB' (I also hate that phrase) winning a gold medal in football
accessory Posted 25 June 2011 Posted 25 June 2011 No danger of that, if Spain or Argentina show up in this..
Finnegan Posted 25 June 2011 Posted 25 June 2011 What a ****ing joke. Bert Posted 25 June 2011 Posted 25 June 2011 If England qualify for the euros, don't expect any of the players that go there to be in the Olympic squad.
Corky Posted 25 June 2011 Posted 25 June 2011 It's only right we are represented at our own Olympics. Hopefully it will all work out sensibly.
The Doctor Posted 25 June 2011 Posted 25 June 2011 What a ****ing joke. Just for once these small minded FA's could have put the chip on their shoulders to one side and done something good for the whole of Great Britiain.... but no... the ***** have to spoil it as usual with petty politics and one one-upmanship. lol Of course, Scotland, Wales and North Ireland should have just put their position of recognised members of FIFA on the line for the sake of playing a couple of games in the name of Great Britain. You don't half talk complete shit at times.
Finnegan Posted 26 June 2011 Posted 26 June 2011 I've just never really got what the fuss is about though to be perfectly honest. I refuse to believe some happy compromise can't be established where England effectively enter alone under the mantle "Team GB." What do you lose? Bale and maybe Ramsey on the bench (that's IF 'Arry and Wenger don't decide they're miraculously injured at the time.)
davieG Posted 26 June 2011 Posted 26 June 2011 The Olympics should be all about individuals not team sports and lets get back to only letting amateurs in there might then be chance of it being drug free and about sport rather than which Country has got the biggest Olympic penis! I used to avidly watch the Olympics now I struggle to even bother to write this about them.

Bale and maybe Ramsey on the bench (that's IF 'Arry and Wenger don't decide they're miraculously injured at the time.) Isn't it possible that Ramsey and Bale might want a chance to play in a major tournament? Why should the Welsh FA stop them or put pressure on them not to make themselves available?
Finnegan Posted 26 June 2011 Posted 26 June 2011 Isn't it possible that Ramsey and Bale might want a chance to play in a major tournament? Why should the Welsh FA stop them or put pressure on them not to make themselves available? We already know that Bale would like to, that's irrelevant though isn't it. If he can't, he can't, and that's the end of it. I don't really think that the mass majority of people who are campaigning to try and have all of the home nations represented in "Team GB" are doing so purely for the sakes of young Gareth Bale, are they? Let's be honest here.
Webbo Posted 26 June 2011 Posted 26 June 2011 I want our team to have the best chance of winning as possible and if the manager wants to pick a Welsh, Scottish or Irish player then he should. I don't know about Wales but I know there are football matches being played in Scotland, wouldn't it be nice if they had some local lads to cheer on?
Finnegan Posted 26 June 2011 Posted 26 June 2011 I can certainly understand why you'd want Bale in your side but I don't think it'll be the end of the world if he isn't there. And he's certainly the only player you'll really, noticeably, miss from the other home nations sides. I'm not saying there aren't positives to it being a "united" team - I just think that, when the other associations said they didn't want to be involved, the FA and the Olympic team should have given up months ago and just said "fuck it, we'll just field English lads. End of drama." Whole lot of fuss over nothing.
