Finnegan Posted 23 June 2011 Posted 23 June 2011 It's interesting that Switzerland has the lowest crime rate in Europe and yet in almost every household there's a bloke whose got his government-issue service rifle - and they are trained to use them. It's also interesting how American has legalized gun ownership and, oh, yeah... infinite more gun related deaths per year (per head) than us? FUNNY THAT!?
Bellend Sebastian Posted 23 June 2011 Posted 23 June 2011 Switzerland has the third highest gun related deaths in Europe, most of which seem to be suicides. You'd think they'd be a bit happier with the crime rate so low. Lovely chocolate too

Lovely chocolate too do they take into account the "dignitas ones though ? i've got a veritable arsenal of makeshift weapons ( hammers screwdivers butchers knives etc ) discretely secreted around my house . i hope i never have to find out whether or not i'd actually have the nerve to use them though

As far as I'm aware Dignitas don't assist people in shooting themselves.
Webbo Posted 23 June 2011 Posted 23 June 2011 I've also hidden some screwdrivers and a hammer around the house. If the missus ever finds them she makes me put up shelves and stuff.
Webbo Posted 23 June 2011 Posted 23 June 2011 As far as I'm aware Dignitas don't assist people in shooting themselves. That's part of the budget plan.
Zingari Posted 23 June 2011 Posted 23 June 2011 As far as I'm aware Dignitas don't assist people in shooting themselves. well they should , i know it wasn't clear but actually i was just asking whether or not the suicide rate in switzerland included the dignitas ones in their statistics
Wherethefoxhat? Posted 23 June 2011 Posted 23 June 2011 Toe rag deserves everything he got.........should never be there in the first place ........cannot bloody stand tea-leafs !!!!!!!!!!
DB11 Posted 23 June 2011 Posted 23 June 2011 Perhaps after the first one he got a feel for it and continued, or he saw red and couldn't stop himself. But I agree that it seems like he caught him, so got him, as opposed to self defence. Unless it was the intruder's knife?!
Zingari Posted 23 June 2011 Posted 23 June 2011 Why don't Switzerland Dignitas have like themed suicide sessions You could possibly opt for something like the William Tell special, whereby you stand there with an apple on your head and people with varying degrees of skill with a crossbow could attempt shooting it off your head
The Doctor Posted 23 June 2011 Posted 23 June 2011 sounds like you've got plans to set up a suicide clinic zingari.
Leicester_Loyal Posted 24 June 2011 Posted 24 June 2011 I can't imagine how stabbing someone is 'reasonable force'. And i can't see how in a general house breaking how the any lives should be in danger. A gang of four people burgling a suburban house doesn't however sound very ordinary, one suspects that there is more to this than meets the eye. Also, if it was self defence why have all three been arrested, did they all join in. If it were me? i'd just get the hell out - i like my stuff, but nothing i own is worth dying or going to prison for. There shouldn't be any reason to require self defence unless one provokes the burglar into an attack - he just wants his booty and to go, not a knife fight. If this was a genuine burglary then it could and should have been avoided, but i suspect it's anything but. So if you woke up, you go downstairs to find a couple of blokes robbing your house, and you've got a wife and two kids sleeping upstairs, you'd run out of the house? And if a burglar sees you, and knows you have witnessed him robbing your stuff, he will probably attack you or try to even knock you out himself. I get some of your points about theres more to this story than has been told so far though. In my opinion its fair play, he has a right to defend his property, if the moron hadn't been burgling his house, he wouldn't have been killed. Crime doesn't pay. If it were me, and I awoke to find men robbing my house, I'd reach for the nearest weapon and do exactly the same.
Samilktray Posted 24 June 2011 Posted 24 June 2011 Don't understand how people can say fair play or game or whatever to stabbing some one to death. Just sounds weird.
MPH Posted 24 June 2011 Posted 24 June 2011 It's also interesting how American has legalized gun ownership and, oh, yeah... infinite more gun related deaths per year (per head) than us? FUNNY THAT!? i looked into that. They have a disproportionately higher gun deaths rate too... meaning they have 5 times higher the population than us but much more than 6 times higher death by guns than us. Coincidence?!? Japan is where its at. The lowest deaths by Gun ratio in the world. Co-coincidentally they also have the strictest gun control laws in the world too. The police need no evidence of someone having a Gun in their house they just need to have a suspicion before they can search it. Tough laws too if found with a gun.

Just thinking like.....
Zingari Posted 24 June 2011 Posted 24 June 2011 would that really be suicide? Just thinking like..... Don't lets get hung up on technicalities I mean if someone rigs up a machine for you with poison and sets it into your bloodstream , is that strictly suicide either ? Thats the point of Dignitas , you're not really doing it yourself , that's why it's called assisted suicide But OK point taken , a remote controlled crossbow with a TV monitor like they used to have in the "golden shot " tv program might be more like suicide I suppose .
Raj Posted 24 June 2011 Posted 24 June 2011 Normally if its in the vicinity of your house and boundaries you can protect yourself BUT only within the limits of self defence. If the homeowner had just kicked, punched and chased the burglars away from his property fair enough. Now that he has actually killed the burglar, harse tho it seems,he'll probably be going down.

Clearly you didn't watch the program about assisted suicide with Terry Pratchet last week. At Dignitas they use barbiturates which you have to be deemed mentally fit to decide to take (verified by a doctor), and physically able to drink them yourself without assistance. The Dignitas staff do not administer anything. They hand it to you, after asking several times that you are certain etc. The program showed it all.

I missed it and wouldn't mind giving it a watch.

Trav Le Bleu Posted 24 June 2011 Posted 24 June 2011 I agree with Jon. I feel dirty Comrade chairman! You must be working too hard - maybe it is the hair folicle cancer you have contracted from the city centre free wifi? (For probably the first time ever I agree with Jon - sometime common sense transcends barriers)

Trav Le Bleu Posted 24 June 2011 Posted 24 June 2011 I very often agree with John (In German accent) You're name is also going in the book.
