C-man Posted 5 August 2015 Posted 5 August 2015 I love the suggestion that because Ranieri hasn't worked in the best league in the world TM for a decade he'll be unable to cope with it. It's not like we're bring Big Ron out of retirement. The bloke took Monaco to 2nd in Ligue 1 just over a year ago!
sdb Posted 5 August 2015 Posted 5 August 2015 I think people need to realise that actually, these people probably have a more balanced view on this than us. This idea of 'people wanting us to fail' is just nonsense. We've lost our stand out player and a manager that the players clearly loved. They also look at 19 other teams, and don't have blue tinted specs. Whilst they may not know our side inside out like most of us, they'll have a good knowledge of us AND the rest. I hope they're all wrong too but people need to wise up...and stop taking things so personally!
lgfualol Posted 5 August 2015 Posted 5 August 2015 I love the suggestion that because Ranieri hasn't worked in the best league in the world TM for a decade he'll be unable to cope with it. Especially because it somehow means he has less of a chance than managers that have never even managed in England before.
BlueSi13 Posted 5 August 2015 Posted 5 August 2015 (edited) Do these people even think before they write? Massive failure at Monaco getting them from Ligue 2 to Champions league. Only last year he was there ffs. Obviously not, that doesn't even make sense. Now I hope all those pundits (and most neutrals I've come across) are wrong, but considering the stature of the clubs Ranieri has managed and the money he's had to spend, he's pretty much won the square root of nothing. Therefore by those clubs standards, his reigns can be deemed as failures. Edited 5 August 2015 by BlueSi13

I think it's clear that they don't have a good knowledge of the newly promoted clubs because hardly any of them watch any Championship football.
Finn Claw II Posted 5 August 2015 Posted 5 August 2015 It's beginning to become funny. It just seems to be lazy journalism to write us off. Pearson has also been transformed from a media outcast to some sort of renegade messiah. Ranieri is a good experienced manager who has done well in most of his roles. I don't see how he is considered more of a risk than Flores, McLaren, Howe, Bilic, Sherwood or Neil. It's utter garbage.

kristianity77 Posted 5 August 2015 Posted 5 August 2015 I don't know why people are upset about pundits and journalists thinking that we will go down. Whether we want to believe it or not we scraped it by the skin of our teeth last season on a run that will likely never happen again. Do we really look any better on paper than we did last season? I don't think we do (at the minute, another signing or two could change that). Fact is, we are one of the favourites for relegation and understandably so. As of a couple of days before the season kicks off, we haven't really "strengthened" at all close season....yet
ScouseFox Posted 5 August 2015 Posted 5 August 2015 i think it's clear that the media don't like ranieri, much in the way they didn't like pearson, therefore they have no issue with criticising us and saying we will go down. for some reason they've taken to howe and he's the new redknapp/dyche figure who can do no wrong in their eyes. if we'd have appointed lennon we'd have been much worse off imo, but I'd hazard a guess that a good half of these journos and pundits would have us surviving, because he's British or (people like sav, cottee, claridge) simply because he's their mate.

Therefore by those clubs standards, his reigns can be deemed as failures. How about considering the context of some of those spells in charge of big clubs as well. Chelsea: pre Abramovich for the most part, before they were one of the big teams. Got them to the Champions League, bought players like Lampard, Gallas and Petit. Then got them to Champs League semis under Abramovich. Was also 2nd to the Invincibles. Juve: took them to 3rd in Serie A the year after they'd only just been promoted back from Serie B. Only lost out to Jose Mourinho's Inter in the league year after that. Roma: 2nd to Jose's treble winning Inter. Lost in Coppa Italia final to same team. Monaco: Took them from Ligue 2 to second in Ligue 1 (with money granted but then again PSG are equally as ridiculously wealthy and splash out on players) Edited 5 August 2015 by cjslcfc 1

Dan Posted 6 August 2015 Posted 6 August 2015 Like I said, Ranieri is the reason they think we'll fall short. Just as QPR were tipped to do OK as the press knew 'Arry, we're tipped to flounder as the press know 'Tinkerman'. Their knowledge of Ranieri is based almost exclusively on his tenure at Chelsea, any good work he has done has been done away from the eyes of the British press and with clubs they know from past glories, as that good work doesn't translate to trophies then he's seen as a failure (regardless of the great work at Roma etc). He's almost the antithesis of Pearson to them so again that translates as failure to them. Which is ironic. You read into it and he's actually not got that bad a CV. "World class manager" (as Whelan I think it was said) is ridiculous but one of the people on the forum (think it was this place's own Robin JD Popley) made a good point which I agreed with - regardless of achievement, he's made every team he's managed into quite a good one. I still don't think he should be there as I don't think Pearson should've gone but I'm warming to Ranieri. The proper judgement starts on Saturday though. I love the suggestion that because Ranieri hasn't worked in the best league in the world TM for a decade he'll be unable to cope with it. It's not like we're bring Big Ron out of retirement. The bloke took Monaco to 2nd in Ligue 1 just over a year ago! Which is about as much as they could've asked of him at the time as well given PSG's spending. He was given a fantastic backing but it still takes a bit of nous to actually put the team together, especially when you've been playing in a league below. He did very well for Monaco.

I don't think people realise quite how extraordinary our last nine games were. It's unbelievable that a team outside the top seven could have a run of 22 points from 9 games. It just doesn't happen.
glenelgfox Posted 6 August 2015 Posted 6 August 2015 Cambiasso was good for us last season but for Pundits to use his departure as the catalyst for picking us to be relegated shows ignorance and lack of research. We have added quality to the squad and really only lost Cambiasso. I hope the squad and Manager make them eat their words / predictions. The other confusing aspect of pre-season predictions is that quite a few "experts" have us relegated and below the likes of Bournemouth. I hope they do well but for experts to have us behind them pre-season is lazy journalism and insulting to be honest. Time will tell but I am confident we will survive comfortably (fingers etc. crossed.
Guest ttfn Posted 6 August 2015 Posted 6 August 2015 After dramatically avoiding Premier League relegation last season, Leicester will look to repeat that feat but have their work cut out. Much will depend on new boss Claudio Ranieri and whether he can adapt to English football again working with fewer resources than he has been presented with at most of his former clubs.Prediction: 20th. He's probably got better resources available to him to reach his objective than he's ever had before. We're trying to stay up, not win the league. Utterly irrelevant and completely brainless comment. Damien Lucas: Leicester will regret getting rid of Nigel Pearson and replacing him with Claudio Ranieri who, like in his last five jobs will be an abject failure, and lead the club to relegation. Losing player of the season Cambiasso and not adequately replacing him proves crucial. Where do these people get off making statements like this? What the hell is this based on? Even those with the gravest of grave reservations about Ranieri would concede that the only one of his last five jobs to have been an abject failure is Greece. Monaco was an overwhelming success. Irrespective of the money, taking a newly promoted side to the Champions League is an impressive achievement. We've seen with Manchester City and also with every Chelsea manager bar Mourinho and Ancelotti (yes, Ranieri included) how difficult it is to piece together a side at short notice even with a lot of money and turn them into a competitive force immediately. Inter wasn't great but wasn't a total disaster either. He picked up a side bottom of the league and badly struggling, stabilised them and then he was bombed out after a poor run with the team nowhere near relegation. Think first season Sven at Leicester. Roma was a big success. Took a team which had finished 6th the season before he arrived to the Coppa Italia final and to within a whisker of just their 4th ever Scudetto. Second season was less good, with Roma 8th when he left in February. I think if he did the equivalent at Leicester (improved our position by 4 places in season 1, but left with us in 16th next year, we'd have to say he'd done a very good job. Juventus was also a big success. Took a newly promoted side to the Champions League (3rd) in his first season and then 2nd in the second season. I don't understand why people can't just spend 5 minutes reading about somebody before they write them off. People see Roma, Juve and Monaco on the CV, realise he hasn't won a league or Champions League and all of a sudden he's a failure. Nothing could be further from the truth. As I've said before, he might well be shit here, but throwing his CV at him as some sort of justification for that opinion is absolutely bonkers. It just doesn't stack up at all. There's a lot of other rubbish in there (how can a journalist think "would of" is correct for god's sake?) but I don't have time for it.
Steven Posted 6 August 2015 Posted 6 August 2015 I don't understand why so many pundits are predicting Bournemouth to stay up. The same pundits last season were predicting us to drop and we were miles better than them when we got promoted. Eddie Howe.

johnny the fox Posted 6 August 2015 Posted 6 August 2015 I wonder if all these mugs would come to the same conclusion if their jobs depended on it..

Losing player of the season Cambiasso and not adequately replacing him proves crucial. Damien Lucas isn't a sports journalist. He works for local rags – covering pet rescues and parish council meetings – that are published not far from me. None of those "writers" for HITC get paid as such – I believe they earn a few pennies per click – so are mostly young kids chatting shit.

All the players who were with us last year have a year's experience of Premier League football. Mahrez, Schlupp, Ulloa, Vardy, Albrighton, Drinky, King, Wes, Kramaric will all be better players for us this season. Shinji and N'Golo are quality acquisitions. On current form ( last nine league matches ) we look excellant. Indications from pre season are that the fighting spirit is still there. Lots to look forward to, and if we do get a couple more quality signings things could get very exciting.
Ric Flair Posted 6 August 2015 Posted 6 August 2015 Hahahahahaaaa I love it, they may all be right but their reasoning is quite scandalous. I'm baffled why a lot of the media have such a poor opinion of Ranieri, was he particularly bad with the press whilst at Chelsea? It seems bizarre as he comes across very approachable and his record is just above average everywhere he's been really at club level, maybe the odd failure but not as bad as some managers who get bum sniffed all the while.
