Guest Col city fan Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 I'm not particularly for or against this, just throwing my 2 pennies in. Surely a crocked player who's advertising himself on youtube doesn't have the right to ask for huge wages. Not even big wages. I think it now becomes almost irrelevant that he's just left Man U and that he used to play for England. He's got long term problems that have a good chance of reoccurring. He has to take a reality check when speaking to clubs (if he does) and realise what they'd be taking on if they employed him. This...
One Arm Babba Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 IF, IF, IF we could keep him fit he would be an excellent player at this level. If my auntie was my uncle.... she'd have a set of bollox
Howard9 Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 SamLCFCLewis Samuel Lewis @RobTannerMerc Any truth of us being linked with a move for owen hargreaves ? RobTannerMerc Rob Tanner @ @SamLCFCLewis I don't think so but will ask Sven tomorrow
Joe. Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 Somebody will take him if he's available, but it's likely to only be on some kind of pas-as-you-play deal. If he can prove his fitness (which I seriously doubt in the long-term), he could be a bloody good signing for somebody. But he still has a long way to go before anybody takes a punt on him.
artursteppe Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 Of course it'd be a difficult decision to make, his determination to get back into the game shows just what a superb professional he is and what an immense asset he would be if fit. If the Owen Hargreaves of 2006 were on offer to us, half of Lincolnshire would be paddling in my semen. He isn't that player any more sadly, he's had multiple serious knee injuries; worse even than Tunchev or Owen who have been dismissed many a time as crocks. We joke pithily that a pay-as-you-play deal wouldn't cost much, but from the point of view of the player, he wouldn't earn much either. As Bert says, his last big comeback lasted four minutes. I'm pretty sure some of the experiences on the virginity thread lasted longer than that, I know mine did . He could well be risking his future health, fitness even earning potential if he carries on. The body can only take so much and he may well only be one twisted knee or a high tackle away from being a wheelchair user. That might sound dramatic but his injury record isn't just bad, it's genuinely tragic and suggests there is something very seriously wrong that even the best osteopaths can't do much about. Sorry, that is patronising drivel. Make sure you don'y cross any roads, you never know what might happen, you could end up hurt or worse. Tosh!
FoxesFan123 Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 Great player, and I am sure he will only sign if he passes strict medical checks. But....do we really need him? Danns is here to be a first team player, King is a key player for us and Wellens was excellent last season. We also have Oakley who signed a contract extension which Sven offered, Abe to play in the position Hargreaves would, AND Moussa will be here after his successful loan to Donny last season. On top of that we could be switching to 4-4-2 from 4-3-3 which leaves space for 2 out the 6 (7 if Hargreaves signs) midfielders. Bit of overkill don't you think?

I would agree that this would be overkill, but if he did sign i could see Oakley leaving, and perhaps Moussa being loaned out. This would still leave cover for injuries from Abe and options with the likes of gally or recall for Moussa ? Options are the KEY to a successful campaign.

Hi all fellow foxes fans, new to the forum, so hi Do we "need" him.... possibly not, our existing midfielders will continue to do a great job. Do we want him if he'd come, "yes", this is a player you build your whole team around. Owen Hargreaves has played at the peak of European football since a teenager and has the footballing brain that is way beyond championship level. If he gets match fit and stays fit he will be the steal of the century. I'd say we have less than a 0%-10% chance of him signing. If he proves his fitness a top European club will snap him up. Our only selling point to him is Sven. I'd be delighted to see this happen.
Rhysm Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 Are you on drugs? This really is utter shite.... Bit harsh - I thought the crux of the post makes a lot of sense.
Guest Bilo Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 I take it as a compliment. Seriously though, I feel for Hargreaves but I honestly think the poor bloke is done.

DJ Barry Hammond Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 We are counting from flop to pop right? What an eloquent saying - plus 1 sir!
Houdini Logic Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 We are counting from flop to pop right? I'll let you count that, but you can't count the six minutes of crying afterwards
Guest Bilo Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 I'll let you count that, but you can't count the six minutes of crying afterwards Six minutes crying? I spent half an hour trying not to punch the air, I was punching well above my weight.
Guest ttfn Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 On a pay-as-you-play deal? Why not? He wouldn't be expected to play 46 games a season. Just as and when he is needed. As for his previous comeback, Alex Ferguson said he thought it was largely a mental thing. From this youtube clip, and going to the effort of setting up a channel (and getting ridiculed for it) it looks like he's got his head sorted and that he really wants it. Also, the playing at the KP rather than at OT will be lower-profile, and perhaps (although I am admittedly speculating) less likely to set off any demons in his head.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 Six minutes crying? I spent half an hour trying not to punch the air, I was punching well above my weight. Ah, Mr Stevens, the English teacher.
stillwater Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 Was informed by a reliable Estate Agent, that he was in Foxton the other week looking at Houses, so could be a possible
Criggers Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 Was informed by a reliable Estate Agent, that he was in Foxton the other week looking at Houses, so could be a possible I don't mean to be horrible or anything nor am I trying to ridicule you but a 'reliable estate agent' cracked me up! If I was drinking tea I'd have spat it out

Turtles Head Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 It's 9/4 he goes MLS, 7/2 QPR, 6/1 us. I can actually see him at QPR, not like the wages are an issue, and I imagine he'll want to play at the highest level. I'd be very surprised if he went MLS.

Don't forget he grew up in Canada.
dannythefox Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 This is a player that Sven would go for i reckon. Pay and play deal good back up and has experience great squad player but would he come?
