Actually putting my earlier 'joke' to one side

Just seen Hargreaves on SSN has set himself up a YouTube channel in an effort to show his fitness

Can't argue, injury free he's a £25m player, but it's quite some risk and I can imagine the pace of this division & frequency of games may prove too much

Bert, Seeing as you mentioned Tunch and Sven. What is the current position for him at the club, is there a real chance he could be in the rotation?

He's going to be involved in pre season then a decision will be made after that.

if he's willing to come for a reasonable wage he'd be a nailed on starter for us and even most prem sides, when fit

My gym would go mental if I used the treadmill like that. They get arsey when I get the chalk out for deadlifts!

I doubt you saw him, as others have said he's in Vancouver maintaining his fitness, but I personally would love it if he came here. Regardless of the injury record and the potential high wage demands, on his day he is one of the best central midfielders in Europe.

I know it'll sound silly, but to a degree he has just been unlucky. When he made his 4 minute return from his Knee injuries, it was his hamstring that gave way! I personally blame Fergie for that one putting him straight into the starting XI when he had only just began heavy training again.

This bit below is from 2008, but it's not too far fetched to envisage he is STILL seeing the doc up here.

Manchester United have played without our first choice four central midfielders following injuries and International duty. Whilst Ryan Giggs and Darren Fletcher are working hard to fill the void, which was illustrated in their play for our goal against Everton today, it can’t be ignored we’re missing the creativity Michael Carrick and Paul Scholes provide from the centre of the park.

With few updates on these players, other than the confirmation that Hargreaves is not for sale, Ferguson has today informed us that Owen is improving, but still set for another trip to the specialist next week.

“We are managing the situation as best we can,” said Ferguson. “It is not an easy one because there is no doubt he is having some pain. But he is getting better. We will give it another week and then probably send him back to the specialist in Leicester.

"Owen is young enough to recover. The specialist is happy with it. He thinks Owen is on the right way. It is frustrating though. It is such a tender bit at the front of the knee, but I think he will be okay.”

Then again.

Owen Hargreaves is top of Leicester's wish list following his release from Man U. Although, Hargreaves has a history of injurys Hargreaves believes he has overcome them and is fitter then he ever has been before. Granted its a drop down and his wage demands will have to be much lower, he is willing to prove he is a top player still. Any finalised deal is a while away but keep close tabs on this.

You a Cross man, Gearoid?

Yep complete coincidence - he often goes fishing in the canal and is a frequent visitor to the gas museum

It's alright uploading a video of him doing fitness work. It's absolutely nothing compared to the demands that are placed on you whilst training day in day out, having up to 2 games a week.

Isn't it more just to show his commitment and to remind clubs that he's still training himself and still wants to play...

Looks like he was half way through a bondage session when the director said they're ready to film

I really can't see this happening.

Even if he would entertain a move here (which in itself is unlikely) I wouldn't want City risking a chunk of the wagebill on a player who will be such a gamble fitness-wise.

If he was willing to accept reduced terms or a pay-as-you-play type deal then Premiership/Bundesliga clubs would be in for him straight away.

I have a sneaky feeling we may see hargreaves in blue shirt within the next week or so....

No source based on absolutely nothing but my gut feeling. Didnt he play for England in the Sven era?

Posted

The reality here is that the treadmill videos really dont prove anything fitness wise!! I used to play semi professional football before a serious spinal injury and resulting surgery. I can run on a treadmill, I can do short sprint drills, but my body is absolutely not capable of making the transition into playing sport again. (believe, i've tried!!)

Granted, a football club such as leicester will have links into all sorts of physio's, specialist etc, but once your body starts to break down, it is the secondary injuries, caused by other musles compensating for the orignal injury that cause problems.

Indeed he did - and was something of a Sven favourite, playing many games when fans were questioning his place in the side. However, he was one of our few successes in Germany during the 2006 World Cup.

It wouldn't be too much of a risk to take him on the pre-season tour and assess his level of fitness. A decision on his ability to withstand the strains and rigours of a Championship season could be made after this.

Difficult one. On one hand, I cannot see that UTD would have kept him on and spent the time and money if they though he was a crock 2 years ago. They could have signed him off and claimed on their insurance. Instead they kept paying him and only released him when his contract expired. That at least suggests that there wasn't any one thing which rules out him playing again.
