topharry123 Posted 14 July 2011 Posted 14 July 2011 Mmmm so you're likening Sevilla, Valencia, athletico Madrid, villareal to Hibs and Hearts? The quality is far superior than the SPL, but the 2 horse race is pretty similar. Every so often another team will get close or win ie: Valencia in 03/04 much like Hearts finishing runner up in 05/06. But no doubt about the quality. There would probably be 10 teams in la liga that could win the SPL, but the top 2 in the SPL would struggle to qualify for europe in la liga. Anyway to the game, good result and sounded like we did well. Nice to see our players getting some time on the pitch early. Shame about the sending off, no need for it really.

Corky Posted 14 July 2011 Posted 14 July 2011 Well we've had a game with the first team and one involving the second string, pre-season is about getting a pattern of play and players suited to a certain style. Sven did the right thing getting the majority of the squad together well before the season kicks off.
sdb Posted 14 July 2011 Posted 14 July 2011 Picture special on the OS. All I can think when looking at them is 'how bloody big are our shirts?!'.
ScouseFox Posted 14 July 2011 Posted 14 July 2011 Backing up what sdb said I hope he's wearing a triple xl or something, and it's not meant to be that big.
sdb Posted 14 July 2011 Posted 14 July 2011 Backing up what sdb said I hope he's wearing a triple xl or something, and it's not meant to be that big. he actually looks embarrassed
HEGGSY Posted 14 July 2011 Posted 14 July 2011 I found his inability to tuck his shirt in quite funny
accessory Posted 14 July 2011 Posted 14 July 2011 is Danns suspended from games in uk? Presumably not. This is what he said on Twitter.. Good 89 mins under the belt was never a red, but it doesn't count anyway so that's good
Collymore Posted 14 July 2011 Posted 14 July 2011 I've missed both games so far and had to "listen again" on I player I get to about 3 mins into the game, get bored of Stringer talking about random shit and have to load the match report to find out where the goal times were! I then have a right time trying to stop it just before the goal Then when I do hear the goal it's like a funeral with the bizarre goal horn Anyone else having this issue?
bluesbrothers Posted 14 July 2011 Posted 14 July 2011 Definately one for captions guys. Even if not, its a funny as hell picture.
MikeyT Posted 15 July 2011 Posted 15 July 2011 mstowelly1 Mike Stowell Great workout for the lads v real Mallorca last night some pleasing performances from the debutants and most importantly 90 mins no injuries
Mac Posted 15 July 2011 Posted 15 July 2011 Definately one for captions guys. Even if not, its a funny as hell picture. Don't we have an "up the arse corner" here you can stick it in?
MC Prussian Posted 15 July 2011 Posted 15 July 2011 It was a friendly, nothing more, nothing less. Not the best of games, but also not the worst. There were a lot of Lestoh fans at Söderstadion, not too bad for a pre-season game. Mallorca played much more composed compared to their rather timid appearance against Hammarby on Wednesday. We wasted a couple of chances in the first, first Gallagher hits the bar, then Nugent is open inside the box about three times in the space of ten, fifteen minutes. All missed. Nugent was rather unfortunate yesterday, tried his best, but it just wouldn't work. Sven played some kind of a 4-5-1, with Nugent up on his own, Gallagher and Vassell on the wings and King, Danns and Wellens in the middle of the park. Danns and King were trying to interfere with Mallorca's build-up a bit more aggressively, trading places occasionally. Konchesky and Peltier were there to add attacking power going forward, which makes us a bit exposed in the back with only two to three defenders left. Konchesky in particular impressed me quite a lot, has lots of pace and does neat crosses, too. The Premiership experience clearly shows. St. Ledger was the mobile megaphone on the pitch, gave instructions all the time. I also liked Vassell's effort on the right side, always found ways to get past his defender whenever he got the ball. All our players are called by nicknames, so it's Kingy, Welly, Gally, Dannsy and whatnot. I didn't really see Mallorca's goal, but from what I recall Bamba got found (was it a long ball passing by him?) And I missed Gallagher's penalty in the second. One thing that strikes me though is the intensity in the game. Mallorca came up with some nasty tackles against Hammarby and they were no different yesterday. Needless to say, Danns buying into it and getting sent off after de Guzman did was a bit foolish. But 1-1 is a decent result, especially considering the fact that Sven did not come up with any substitutions at all. Oh, and it's really odd hearing the stadium speaker commentating each yellow card. Peter Schmeichel was also present and was one of the sideline attractions. Mills and Tunchev were in the stands, in a more comfortable seating section, a couple of rows below Stringer. And what was it with the black numbers on the back of the shirts? Looks rather nice, but why aren't they on the replicas, as well?
HEGGSY Posted 15 July 2011 Posted 15 July 2011 wheres the black numbers or is it just me who cant see them

purpleronnie Posted 15 July 2011 Posted 15 July 2011 Rangers and Celtic would struggle to beat the drop let alone Europe! But if they had the money that other top league teams get they would be fine.
davieG Posted 15 July 2011 Posted 15 July 2011 Perhaps they're not allowed to were all the FL stuff in these friendly 'cup' competitions abroad.
HEGGSY Posted 15 July 2011 Posted 15 July 2011 looks quite nice actually, thinking about it though those numbers were used last pre season but in white instead
AmyLGK Posted 15 July 2011 Posted 15 July 2011 Erm....is there a bit of bitch slapping going on here???
BlueSi13 Posted 15 July 2011 Posted 15 July 2011 But if they had the money that other top league teams get they would be fine. Thats if they could persuade the top players to move to Glasgow. Decent result against a decent side, albeit it was just a friendly. This time next year people won't remember this game. Hopefully the lads and the new boys got some much needed fitness and stamina into those legs. Its going to be a long hard slog with many ups and downs, so lets just hope the lads are in top condition at the start of the season
Fmfox Posted 15 July 2011 Posted 15 July 2011 those numbers are on all the academy kits and reserve kits etc....its easier to dish out shirts with no set names when on tour rather than having to have names on the back etc
