iBleedLeicesterColours Posted 4 August 2011 Posted 4 August 2011 There's a thread for your starting XI, but who should occupy the midfield slots and in what formation ? Reasons for choices too .. Personally, to start with Danns Wellens King Danns - Bit of everything Wellens - Skipper, good passer, works hard, our midfield general. King - Pops up with important goals and does some work that goes unnoticed. The others - Johnson - Lacking match fitness, was cracking in 09 in the prem, should get some goals at this level. Would definitly be using him from the bench to start with, see how he fairs. Fernandes - Just arrived, not too sure about his pre season. Would use him in a rotation system, see just how well he does. Abe - Personally think he's overrated. Bench for me. Oakley - Days are numbered although I rate him Moussa - Not gonna get much of a look in I don't think. The wingers (433) Gally - Has to play in my book. Set pieces and good passing/crossing. Dyer - Hit and miss. Impact sub. Vassell - Can be good, if he plays he'll do well I think. Would be a toss up between him and Nugent for the other flank. Nugent - " "
Fox92 Posted 4 August 2011 Posted 4 August 2011 Probably Wellens -- King -- Danns are the three for me. Its a personal hard choice between Abe and King but King will pop up with some goals. I have mixed views on King, but he'd be more of a holding man for me.
Salieri Posted 4 August 2011 Posted 4 August 2011 When fit I think Fernandes and Johnson have gotta start, the third place would be very much up for grabs. Tough choice between Wellens/Danns/King/Abe as they all offer something a bit different from one another. I just think if Johnson and Fernandes can play to their respective abilities then they are just a cut above the others.
ScouseFox Posted 4 August 2011 Posted 4 August 2011 Johnson - Fernandes - King If all fit they are the three best midfielders in the squad. Seen as Johnson probably won't last 90 atm; King - Fernandes - Danns King - Obvious, scores crucial goals quite often. Fernandes - Cut above, could dominate other, weaker midfielders. Danns - Like the look of him, can be a bit of everything. Few assists, decent amount of goals, bit of a scrapper etc.

m00nie Posted 4 August 2011 Posted 4 August 2011 ------- abe--------- danns- johnson. --------king--------
Guest Col city fan Posted 4 August 2011 Posted 4 August 2011 King Abe Danns. A fit Fernandes is a much better player than Abe...
LestaFox92 Posted 4 August 2011 Posted 4 August 2011 Depends what we need passing or strength and grit for midfield so havn't got one but my attack would be Vassel (new striker) Nugent really dont rate gally but there you go !
superfox1980 Posted 4 August 2011 Posted 4 August 2011 Johnson, Fernandes & king. Johnson showed sone great touches on Saturday, real quality. Hope we keep him fit, could be a great asset.
cc_star Posted 4 August 2011 Posted 4 August 2011 Wellens is captain so he's surely going to figure when fit & available Wellens - Fernandes - King It's a shame Sven picks the system which doesn't suit the players as we have overwhelming talent in idfield but will fall short up front I'd play something like Back four FernandesWellens - Johnson - KingGallyNugent
One Arm Babba Posted 4 August 2011 Posted 4 August 2011 I think starting Fernandes sends the wrong message to a very competitive midfield. Personally I'd go for: Danns, King, Wellens Although maybe Abe instead of Wellens.
B52 Posted 4 August 2011 Posted 4 August 2011 Fernandes Danns, Gallagher, Wellens King - In this position King can score and still be valuable in defensive roles. Nugent
The Doctor Posted 4 August 2011 Posted 4 August 2011 Abe - Danns - King. Not sure about Johnson's fitness or what Fernandes is like nowadays.
Raw Dykes Posted 4 August 2011 Posted 4 August 2011 It's an interesting puzzle for Sven, but a nice one to have, is the midfield. A lot of people will no doubt be worrying that some of our CMs will become unhappy about not being picked to start every match, but I think it's fair to say it is probably the most physically demanding position in the team, and there will be plenty of rotation. I would do what Capello promised he would with the England team, and pick the players based on form and fitness, rather than reputation. If I could choose from a fully fit squad, all in good form, the midfield 3 would be, _____________Fernandes_______________ ___King/Danns/Wellens_____Johnson______ I expect we might be using a 4-1-3-2 away from home or defending a lead occasionally. This would mean there'd be 4 central midfield positions up for grabs.
Messi Posted 4 August 2011 Posted 4 August 2011 Wouldn't nobody be tempted to see what Danns looked like on the wing? I'd go for: ---i---------Fernandes --------Wellens-------King --Danns--------------------Gally --------------Nugent
Merging Cultures Posted 4 August 2011 Posted 4 August 2011 For Coventry Vassel - Danns - King once Johnson is 100% and Fernandes is settled ----------- Fernandes ------------ Johnson -------------- Danns Forwards -------------Vassel---------------- Nugent ------------ ???????
Rusko187 Posted 4 August 2011 Posted 4 August 2011 Never mind whose starting.. I'd be struggling to pick out the subs as well!! Such a strong midfield.
gerrytaggart Posted 4 August 2011 Posted 4 August 2011 King - Wellens - Abe Let the new arrivals force a starting place for themselves. We had one of the best midfields in the league last year in my opinion, now we have some unbelieveable options, genuine competition for places. We will see how they all fair after a few games but its hard to pick 3 above the rest.

Donut Posted 4 August 2011 Posted 4 August 2011 King will be picked for his goal threat. Fernandes when fit will be one of the holding players..........Wellens and Danns are fighting over the other position. Dunno what to do with Abe and Johnson. are we assuming itll be a 4-3-3/4-5-1 with two holding and one in the hole here? Jesus weve got that many midfielders what do you do?

I'm not sure I see it like this. I see Fernandes and Abe as our defensive midfielders, Danns as an attacking midfielder, like King, although King is more effective further back, Wellens and Johnson as midfield generals. If it were up to me, I'd pick them purely on form and fitness, and not reputation.
Number 6 Posted 5 August 2011 Posted 5 August 2011 Don't think tomorrow will be refelective of the season. Think we'll have: Wellens --- Danns --- King Johnson needs time to improve his fitness so wouldn't be surprised to see him make the bench and potentially get 30 mins. Fernandes would be preferred to Wellens for me and even though the move has only just been finalised it's really been done for ages so could push Wellens/Danns out.
