Haydos Posted 22 April 2012 Posted 22 April 2012 So it's technically in City's hands now? Would never have thought that after the Arsenal game. No. It's not in City's hands. We do people keep saying this? There's a massive game between the two of them that - you'll never guess what - both teams have a say in.
Kitchandro Posted 22 April 2012 Posted 22 April 2012 No. It's not in City's hands. We do people keep saying this? There's a massive game between the two of them that - you'll never guess what - both teams have a say in. It is in City's hands, as in if they win all their games they win the title. They are in control of their own destiny now.
purpleronnie Posted 22 April 2012 Posted 22 April 2012 So I guess you could say its all in utd's hands for the exact same reason.
Corky Posted 22 April 2012 Posted 22 April 2012 If Wolves win all their games they still won't stay up.
Haydos Posted 22 April 2012 Posted 22 April 2012 It is in City's hands, as in if they win all their games they win the title. They are in control of their own destiny now. Brilliant. Same applies to United. So I guess it's ALL in BOTH OF THEIR HANDS somehow for some reason. Come on, you can work this out.
Kitchandro Posted 22 April 2012 Posted 22 April 2012 Brilliant. Same applies to United. So I guess it's ALL in BOTH OF THEIR HANDS somehow for some reason. Come on, you can work this out. Yeh. What's your point? The reason Sky Sports are saying it's in City's hands is because it is now and it wasn't if Man Utd had beaten Everton. And also they've won all but one home game so arguably they have a better chance (providing they win today). Nothing's changed with regards to United, except they've made it a harder task for themselves in theory. Why would they say 'it's now in United's hands' when it has been for some time now?

Because it's just an untrue statement. If City could win the title without Man Utd affecting proceedings then you can say things like 'it's in their hands', but they can't. It's pretty simple. I realise I'm being a bit pedantic but the statement is just untrue. It can't be in both their hands, that just renders the idiom pointless. Sure, there's all to play for, or some other cliche like that, but it's not all in one of their figurative hands.
Amin Posted 22 April 2012 Posted 22 April 2012 It's also in Man City's hands because they can now control their own fate from this point in time.

As you've said, it's an idiom, it's not an actual statement of fact. 'It' isn't really an actual object and since it's football it's got more to do with feet than hands. If we're being pedantic. The point is neither have to rely on the other's results if they win all their games. I don't see how that contradicts anything. As for 'Man City are in the driving seat' - I'd say they are, they should expect to beat Wolves and have a great home record, and they've beaten United 6-1 away.
Haydos Posted 22 April 2012 Posted 22 April 2012 It's also in Man City's hands because they can now control their own fate from this point in time. IT'S NOT. It's in NOBODIES hands.

We'll leave it then I do think United will rue today. I can't see Wolves putting up much of a fight if I'm honest but stranger things have happened. I'm not sure about the derby, half of me thinks all form goes out the window and it's basically a one off match for the title but the other half thinks that (if we assume they get the result today) Man City will have the momentum and the confidence. It's gonna be nervy that's for sure. Hope we get a cracker!

Everytime there's a great game on I'm doing something else. Was out for the Blackburn Liverpool one as well. If Man City don't beat Wolves today they don't deserve to win the title, they remind me of us in some ways. Got to take your chance when you're given it, they've really been let off the hook. I wonder what price Tevez is to get the winner in the derby BTW.
Bert Posted 22 April 2012 Posted 22 April 2012 Still can't see how Wolves can get relegated today if they lose? Or do two of the teams fighting relegation have to play each other?
Haydos Posted 22 April 2012 Posted 22 April 2012 Still can't see how Wolves can get relegated today if they lose? Or do two of the teams fighting relegation have to play each other? They'll be 11 points behind with 3 to play won't they?
The Doctor Posted 22 April 2012 Posted 22 April 2012 Still can't see how Wolves can get relegated today if they lose? Or do two of the teams fighting relegation have to play each other? No, the only other game on is Liverpool v West Brom. After QPR's win yesterday, Wigan are in 17th & Wolves are 11 points behind them, so unless they win, they're down.

I wasn't taking into account that the game they played today wound be added on Cheers.

Matt Posted 22 April 2012 Posted 22 April 2012 Wolves 0 - 1 Man City. Welcome back to the Championship Wolves.
BoneDog Posted 22 April 2012 Posted 22 April 2012 Still not sure who I want to win the title. Not a fan of either team anymore but used to always support Man City in the derbies. One thing's for sure - I'm not gonna enjoy seeing Tevez showing off a league champions medal if they win it after his shenanigans this season. DISGRACEFUL!
Corky Posted 22 April 2012 Posted 22 April 2012 Wolves heading for a 13th home defeat in 18 games. Added to two home cup defeats (to Birmingham and Man City). Season ticket well worth it
StanSP Posted 22 April 2012 Posted 22 April 2012 Terry Connor hasn't won any of the 9 games he's been in charge of. Great appointment, Wolves...
ScouseFox Posted 22 April 2012 Posted 22 April 2012 0-2. City right back in the title race, it's back in their hands. Wolves down.
