Not wanting to dampen the enthusiasm, but.....

we may well be very close to having a bid accepted for Maynard, does not necessarily mean though that he will sign for us.

I would LOVE him here despite the long saga, but who is to say that:

1. Another team (would probably have to be prem) wouldn't

match our offer??

2. he still wants prem football, and therefore will run his contract out in the hope of miving next summer on a free where prem clubs may take a punt on him??

Lets face it, we have hardly shown so far that we are his best chance of prem football, only thing going for us is he knows he'll be a starter for us, and get his big wages and aigning on fee. Is that going to be enough??? We shall see.....

Yea but the thing is Bristol city are gonna want to sell him, rather then let him go for nothing in the summer,

I'm guessing OTIB is going to explode this morning...

Seriously debating whether to sign up or not if he does sign.

Will be some great :fishing: to be done!

And its thoroughly deserved at that! Hoping this does pick up a bit of pace today!

Haha ditto, guessing they might be getting a few new members over the next few days! And rightly so - the amount of mouthing off they've done this summer.

Rumour has it that Leicester have agreed a fee in the region of £5.5million for Nicky Maynard. I'll try and find out how true it is... #LCFC

dont know how reliable this guy is????

OTIB is going to be subjected to some serious trolling from some of yers if he signs isn't he? lol

Reading in to it a little more, it would appear the striker fourth official is referring to is NM. He tweeted earlier that our bid is to be in the region of 6m. He also tweeted about Southampton's bid for Baldock.

He tweeted this:

Fourth_Official Fourth Official

Southampton are progressing quickly in signing a striker.. #Saintsfc

Just before the tweet about our striker situation, so I'd assume what he's doing is updating both situations simultaneously.

Bert also seemed pretty upbeat on twitter about an hour ago. He says if we were to sign him it would be Tuesday earliest. He must know something.

Maybe Southampton want Waghorn and are waiting for us to sign Maynard before sticking in their 5m plus player bid?

That Lallana looks decent.

STUBBORN Bristol City have refused to sell Nicky Maynard to Championship rivals Leicester for a fourth time.

Desperate to add firepower to an expensively assembled squad which remains short of goals, the east Midlands club made three attempts to sign the 24-year-old Robins striker in July, only to be knocked back on each occasion.

The Evening Post understands Leicester's latest bid for Maynard was made unofficially over the telephone and that, far from giving up hope, Foxes boss Sven-Goran Eriksson is more determined than ever to get his man.Undeterred, the Foxes came back in with another offer this week, but were told "nothing doing" by City directors, who are desperate not to sell their star player during this transfer window.

Although City again reiterated their reluctance to sell to a rival Championship club when West Ham United manager Sam Allardyce declared an interest in Maynard last weekend, the Post has learned that persistent Leicester are preparing to table a final offer for the former Crewe forward before the transfer window slams shut next Wednesday.

Having missed out on Reading hit-man Shane Long, who signed for Premier League West Brom, and had a bid of £3m for Jermaine Beckford turned down by Everton earlier this week, Eriksson is refocusing his attention on Maynard, who scored both goals in City's recent 2-1 win at Leicester.

But the Foxes will almost certainly have to break their own transfer record (they paid Reading £5m for defender Matt Mills during the close season) if they are to tempt City. In the final analysis, the matter will probably come down to whether or not Maynard wants to move to another Championship club. He remains ambitious to play at the highest level and will only sign a new deal at Ashton Gate if he first receives assurances that City will allow him to talk to Premier League clubs if they show an interest in January or at the end of next season.

Maynard's partner is due to give birth to the couple's first child next month and the Cheshire-born player seems content to stay put for now.

Robins chairman Colin Sexstone and manager Keith Millen remain hopeful Maynard will still sign the new contract that has been on the table since the end of last season and they will again press him to do so after the transfer window closes.

If this is true and we have somewhere between 5-7 mil for s striker, why not offer this smount for Beckford? Everton would find that amount much more acceptable than 3mil

Even If Bristol want to sell him and accept an offer, he has no obligation to leave??!! That's why we still have contracts in football.

What do they say??? We'll let you rot in the reserves?? They have a dodgy defence and Maynard is their talisman up front, they can't afford not to play him if he is there, they would be in severe danger of going down. Maynard holds all the cards in this one, if he wants to run out his contract, he can.

Are you serious? Beckford is 28, that'd be crazy money at his age. Come on City, let's get this Maynard saga sorted!

Posted

If he does sign after all this then he better be bleeding good. As impressive as he was at Freemen's Wharf, he's been anonymous in other games. Clearly playing for a contract in front of Sven. Could be a massive let down.

If Maynard didn't want to leave he would of signed a contract a long time ago and do you also think we haven't had any encouragement from his agent to keep making bids.

All those backwards Brizzle fans said 'our chairman is rich, he'll just let him leave on a free' what they didnt realise is that their chairman didnt get rich by chucking 6 million from Leicester City down the drain. Poor deluded little souls

Maynard is ours..............................aslong as a Prem team don't match our bid!

Still got 3 in 4 though. I'd take that for him being anonymous. Nugent is there to do his donkey work, Nicky just needs to stick the ball in the onion bag!

28 is not old for a player especially a striker. I only said that based on the the repot in the paper saying BCFC had knocked us back again.

Unreliable, not proven source etc etc etc.

Amazing how many people try and hang on to fourth officials coat tails (lets face it, he is the only one who has been remotely correct on things for the last few months). Even our own Bert and Liam were saying weeks ago that we HAD put a bid in for Maynard that included Waghorn, which was denied by everyone and rubbished my most other sources.

no more pissing about get a bid they are going to accept in, give him a contract he can refuse, give him a medical, sign on the dotted line, get a few good pics of him on the os, play him alongside nugent, scores a hat trick for Saturday, finishes the season on 25 goals, Leicester get promoted, Maynard keeps us up, job done

Take a minute to look at Joey Barton. Newcastle want rid, but he hasn't officially done enough wrong to have his contract cancelled, so they have agreed a fee (£0) with every club in the world, but until Joey gets an offer from the right type of club, he is gonna carry on at Newcastle and pick up his wages. There is NOTHING Newcastle can do.

Bristol city are in a WORSE position. They want rid, but only for £6m+. Even if they agree a fee with us, until Nicky gets an offer from the right type of club (Prem), he is gonna carry on at Bristol and pick up his wages until the summer, then leave to a prem club on a free. At that point a prem club will take a risk and pay him more wages than maybe even us, because they won't have a transfer fee to pay!! Bristol will hate him for it, but can do NOTHING about it.

I've said it before, and i'll say it again, I would LOVE Maynard here, but even if Bristol accept our offer, there will be lots of disappointed LCFC fans when HE declines to move here.
