As far as I can tell is that there is no bid, nothing official has been announced and I am sick and tired of people making out they are close to some kind of source. The only paper that has covered this today is the Merc and they very rarely get anything right. Rob Tanner needs to get some new leads Take it from someone who has been on these forums for a few years.... Bert is more reliable, and MUCH quicker to the news than Rob Bloody Tanner. Nothing wrong with Tanner other than the fact that people seem to put trust in him simply because he works for the Mercury. I Can assure you, you will get much much better information from someone like Bert. And so will we if people dont keep running him off. Which is something i appreciate that you might not realize you are doing. Put it this way. People have to pay to buy the Mercury - Rob Tanner gets a wage and thats secured so its no bother to him if people don't believe him or not... He'll just move on to the next Story he gets given. Bert Posts for for free so there is no incentive for him to hang around if people's unbelief spills over into outright insults....

He tweeted earlier that our bid is to be in the region of 6m. He also tweeted about Southampton's bid for Baldock. He tweeted this: Fourth_Official Fourth Official Southampton are progressing quickly in signing a striker.. #Saintsfc Just before the tweet about our striker situation, so I'd assume what he's doing is updating both situations simultaneously. Bert also seemed pretty upbeat on twitter about an hour ago. He says if we were to sign him it would be Tuesday earliest. He must know something. EDIT. City1884 Posted 26 August 2011 Posted 26 August 2011 Not wanting to dampen the enthusiasm, but..... we may well be very close to having a bid accepted for Maynard, does not necessarily mean though that he will sign for us. I would LOVE him here despite the long saga, but who is to say that: 1. Another team (would probably have to be prem) wouldn't match our offer?? 2. he still wants prem football, and therefore will run his contract out in the hope of miving next summer on a free where prem clubs may take a punt on him?? Lets face it, we have hardly shown so far that we are his best chance of prem football, only thing going for us is he knows he'll be a starter for us, and get his big wages and aigning on fee. Is that going to be enough??? We shall see.....
