Maynard

How do you know if he'll sign a contract with us or not?

The only way he would sign a contract with us is if it has a release clause in it to say he could leave for a premier league club if we don't get promoted. The same as He wants but isn't getting at Bristol. Why would we pay £6m+ and agree to that??

No prem club is going to pay Bristol £6m+

So his best opportunity for prem football is by being out of contract!!

I think it would be naive to think that this player has not indicated that he would come to the football club.

Sven wouldn't pursue Maynard if he was not interested in coming.

I have to say, given Maynard is pretty much guaranteed to not resign for Bristol, I would be LIVID as one of their fans if my club turned down 6m+ for a Champ striker.

Well, I hope I am proved wrong, I really do. I'd be the very first to have his name on my shirt, I'm just trying to be realistic, and I think i will be proved correct.

Take a minute to look at Joey Barton. Newcastle want rid, but he hasn't officially done enough wrong to have his contract cancelled, so they have agreed a fee (£0) with every club in the world, but until Joey gets an offer from the right type of club, he is gonna carry on at Newcastle and pick up his wages. There is NOTHING Newcastle can do.

Bristol city are in a WORSE position. They want rid, but only for £6m+. Even if they agree a fee with us, until Nicky gets an offer from the right type of club (Prem), he is gonna carry on at Bristol and pick up his wages until the summer, then leave to a prem club on a free. At that point a prem club will take a risk and pay him more wages than maybe even us, because they won't have a transfer fee to pay!! Bristol will hate him for it, but can do NOTHING about it.

I've said it before, and i'll say it again, I would LOVE Maynard here, but even if Bristol accept our offer, there will be lots of disappointed LCFC fans when HE declines to move here.

Really good post and bang on with your point.......However i dont believe for one minute that sven would have continued his pursuit of maynard if he had not had clear signals from maynards camp that maynard would be keen on a move. Remember if maynard had handed in a transfer request, he may have lost out on bonus/fees etc....As the saying goes " there's no smoke without fire"

EDIT... just seen nicks post above saying the same point

Where's that Swedish pre-season vid gone when Sven is asked on camera if maynard wants to join and he replies, "Yes"?

Posted

People keep stating 'Maynard hasn't handed in a transfer request' as a reason he doesn't want to come here........but why would he?

Maynard and his agent hold all the cards in this, why would they throw away loyalty bonuses from Brizzle knowing full well that if they sat tight Brizzle would sell if he didn't sign a new contract, whether that is to join us or a Prem team.

Maynard's agent has played a blinder in all this and deserves every penny he gets out of this deal.

Maynard is in a win win situation really. If they accept the offer he gets himself at an ambitious club on big wonga. If he keeps scoring goals and we don't get promoted prem teams will come in for him, and we'll have to sell because we couldn't keep pumping that kind of money in.

If they continue to turn it down then he can walk as a free agent to a middle of the road premier league club. The only thing to throw a spanner in those works is the fact he could get injured and be without a club... for someone with previous serious injuries i'd imagine that's on his and his agents mind.

Finally Bristol offer him more money and cast iron guarantees that he can go for a couple of million in the summer so anyone he wants.

Another day of waiting to see if this happens :frusty:

I'd relax - all the odds suggest it will more likely happen next week if it goes through - Doubt it will happen today

Sorry for being lazy guys, but has ANYTHING occurred in the last 17 pages that have appeared since I last looked yesterday? Or is it the usual perpetual cycle of garbage that usually fills these kind of threads up?

Cheers in advance :)

| must admit that due to an unforeseen attack of serious ennui last night, I posted a whole load of irrelevant uninteresting dross that I would be happy to have classed as garbage

It would make sense that a fee is agreed before the weekends fixtures. We wouldn't want to risk him turning out for Bristol City and getting injured. The fee touted is a massive outlay at this level, it'll be interesting to see if he plays this weekend.

hmmmmm so many conflicting reports!! Would so love him here, especially for tomorrow. Would rather we look at a winger next though, rather than another striker.

Rumour has it that Leicester have agreed a fee in the region of £5.5million for Nicky Maynard. I'll try and find out how true it is... #LCFC

dont know how reliable this guy is????

He's just saying 'rumour has it'.

and the bid was £6m+ with add ons.

So I'm saying ignore it.

Surely its in our interests to get this wrapped up either way, if brizzle turn the bid down again then we wont have much time to do anything else. Nugent has been awesome but he needs help if we want any shot at promotion

Posted

If we do actually sign him, after the relief and excitement we'll all think 'bugger, we overpaid a bit there'. Knowing our luck he'd either be shit for us or get injured on his debut.

6 mill on an unproven prem striker is risky business I think, Forlan moved to Inter in the region of 6million the other day, both players arent on the same level...
