sbfox Posted 19 August 2011 Posted 19 August 2011 I don't know why i'm bothering but....If you read my original post,i did'nt and haven't criticised anyone ! I just made the point that £7 mill could possibly have been spent on proven defenders Naughton and Mee ....that was all ! Pardon me for posting my thoughts ....i'll ask your esteemed opinion first in future shall i ? Yes, but how do you know we could: a) afford Naughton and Mee b) lure them for another season of Championship football, when Naughton almost knew he'd be playing Prem c) meet their wage demands? This is a major gripe of mine! We can't just pretend this is football manager and berate Sven for not signing anyone he wants. Transfers are so much more complex than that!

I know that A) we could have bought Naughton for £5 mill and at that time would'nt pay it ..........and a few weeks later paid a similar amount for Mills ! Perhaps £2 mill would have bought Mee ......that i don't know ! B) Naughton wanted to come to us .....and Mee is playing Championship football on loan ! C) They were met last year and they wouldnt be anymore than Mills SSS & Peltier combined !

How do you know we wouldn't pay it? How do you know Naughton wanted to come to us?
Babylon Posted 19 August 2011 Posted 19 August 2011 I just made the point that £7 mill could possibly have been spent on proven defenders Naughton and Mee ....that was all I understand what you're saying. But we WERE after the both of them, sven said he was struggling to get answers from clubs about last seasons players. He had to make the decision, keep waiting and waiting for a decision or go out and get others. We could have waited another month or two when the answer could still have been NO. Mee admitted on twitter he spoke to Sven, but we had already signed up CB's because Man City hadn't given us the thumbs up early enough. He wanted first team guarantees we couldn't give. Also, Naughton and Mee have NOT been bought by other teams, they have only been loaned out. Do you know if they were actually for sale? We wanted to buy people this year, people who see their futures here and not elsewhere. Like I said, I know what you're saying but it's far to simplistic to say we could have used that money to buy last years players, there is so much more to it than that.

All i'll say is that Naughton was the first one that Sven wanted to sign ......and as i said ....Spurs wanted £5 million ....and AT THAT TIME .....that was thought to be too much ! Fact ! Anyway, it all began as a question i would like to ask Sven ........supposition .......so end of !!!
Blinking Blue Owl Posted 19 August 2011 Posted 19 August 2011 Sorry Pruss but that's a bit of contradiction in terms saying Naughton cost too much but then saying Spurs would not sell him ? I would have paid seven or eight million for him because he is worth more than Mills- St ledger -pantsil- put together . If you ask any fan who saw Naughton last year he is the mutts nuts and we should have paid what ever it took to get him .
Babylon Posted 19 August 2011 Posted 19 August 2011 Spurs wanted £5 million ....and AT THAT TIME .....that was thought to be too much! Where has that information come from? What was the payment breakdown, did they want £5m cash upfront, would they take payments spread over 3/4 years. Was it mostly cash based without extras on appearances, promotion etc? What were the agents fees involved and the wages requested by the players. You have the FACTS, give me the answers. There can be two transfers valued at £5m, but it doesn't mean they are the same. I would have paid seven or eight million for him because he is worth more than Mills- St ledger -pantsil- put together . So you'd play him on his own at the back then?
Jaspa Posted 19 August 2011 Posted 19 August 2011 I think it's because Sven thinks Peltier is better value for money for this level than Naughts Gotta remember were not really Man City
21st Century Fox Posted 19 August 2011 Posted 19 August 2011 Bearing in mind that Sven has little to do with transfers after indicating his targets to Andrew Neville. In all likelyhood Sven had little to do with judging whether someone was actually too expensive or not.
Raj Posted 19 August 2011 Posted 19 August 2011 Jose seems a liability at Real at the moment. I hear he had a long chat with the powers at be when they came for the pre season. You think he's been lined up for us?

It's also far to simplistic to imply that if we had signed them this season they would be as sucessful as last season. We have had plenty of players come on loan, do well for us, then become pants when we sign them on a pernament deal... Waghorn (just backing up your point Babs )

Nick Posted 20 August 2011 Posted 20 August 2011 Cleary I know nothing about football.. Players not in position and school boy errors are acceptable it seems.. I'll shut up then and leave my stupid opinion and bow down to those who have succesfully done football manager jobs on the forum like Nick. Let's see how the next 2 matches leave us, I predict personally same point as Sousa last season but Sven will stay as apparently he's the best thing since sliced bread. Players not in position. We would all like round pegs in round holes but we have not acquired the personnel yet to complete any specific formation effectively. School boy errors - correct, not acceptable but with the amount of pressure and expectation fans like you put on the side combined with the fact that some of these players have had four training sessions with each other, - it's unsurprising. Nobody is saying Sven is the best thing since sliced bread. It's fine to criticise - I have too. But to call for his head - **** off. If it was about as you put it 'you shutting up and leaving your stupid opinion and bowing down to those who have successfully done football manager jobs' then surely you won't find a better record than SGE? As for the part where you have a go at me. I'm really hurt Tony. You cut me deep.
Guest Col city fan Posted 20 August 2011 Posted 20 August 2011 You should post in col citys player thread making conclusions like that so soon. Bit harsh babs! I did agree it was a twatty thread! Ouch....

Shame you didn't just shut up but chose instead to include a trite diatribe more concerned with affecting the emotions of a spurned teenage girl. One one hand you dismiss those who have differing opinions because they have not worked as professional football managers - and then you slab out your dumbass predictions...and I'm just betting you've never worn a dress at a travelling fair and gazed at balls in tents. Hang on, actually I think you probably have. Maybe you should stick to that.

DJ Barry Hammond Posted 20 August 2011 Posted 20 August 2011 This thread will be interesting at 5:01 later today. A win and this gets discarded pretty much for at least a week, but lose and this thread has the potential to surpass the Maynard thread! Get those servers ready Mark!

ozleicester Posted 20 August 2011 Posted 20 August 2011 Sven out! ... i assumed this was a warning thread for all the ladies out and about in town?
Collymore Posted 20 August 2011 Posted 20 August 2011 This thread is embarrassing and I hope is to do more with the immature younger posters on these boards who have nothing better to do in their summer holiday. IMO this thread should be closed or we should set up a U16s forum which should be ran between the hours of 9am and 8pm (their bed time) I back you 100% Sven. **Edit - looking back there's a shocking amount of older posters contributing to this mess **
MC Prussian Posted 20 August 2011 Posted 20 August 2011 Sven's not out - he's just appearing on the Football Focus in a few minutes.
