Kasper 7 - never should've been sent off, kept us in the game.

Pantsil 7 - great game, showed his class and looked very solid.

Konchesky 5 - our worst performer.

Bamba 7 - could form a decent partnership with mills, consistent performing so far.

Mills 7 - miles better than his previous game.

Wellens 7 - just played his natural game and this was his best performance so far.

Fernandes 8 - great game, 1 goal, 1 assist which he won the ball for too.

King 6 - made some fantastic runs, a few more games and we'll have our Kingy back.

Danns 7 - unlucky not to score, put in a shift, had a hand in the 2nd.

Nugent 8 - another tireless performance, whilst carrying a knock and a goal. He's going to be key for us.

Vass 7 - didn't want him to start, but he made such a huge difference.

Gally 5 - he's so frustrated and I can't blame him. Needs a run if games or a goal.

Bert...love you to bits, but just can't agree with your Konchesky rating...thought he ran his socks off and has been a good constant in all this early mediocre fayre! :dunno:

From what I seen watching it online.

Schmeichel 7 - Important saves again did very well with crosses, downfall of course was the red card

Pantsil 8 - Very impressed today, consistent from 1st to 90th minute, still defended well with our backs to the wall

Mills 7 - Better performance, looked assured but still too much hoof ball, penalty was harsh

Bamba 7 - Our best player so far this season, didn't look troubled did what needed to be done

Konchesky 6 - Very good first half, but form dipped in the second unfortunately

Wellens 7 - Bossed the defensive side of midfield in 1st half, found it more difficult in 2nd

Fernandes 9 - Class above, accurate passing yet again good going forward and got a goal

Danns 8 - Best performance yet, rate this lad highly should be proud with his shift today

King 5 - Not impressed at all, pretty quiet in my view

Vassell 6 - With Nugent he played very well, but soon as Nugent went off his performance went to pieces

Nugent 8 - Starting to get into his groove, scored a goal and looked lively

Gallagher 4 - Very poor

Abe - Not on long enough

Weale 1 - Rubbish, ADAM SMITH, ADAM SMITH, ADAM ADAM SMITH

Kasper 5 - Good catching crosses, good awareness. Really needs to learn not to over-react, even when a rather daft decision goes the other way in vital stages of a game.

Pantsil 7 - Consistent with his passing and ball control. Looked comfortable, liked to go forward when he could.

Konchesky 5 - Slow at reacting against their Right Winger, his crossing was total bull locks.

Bamba 7 - Solid as rock, hope he stay consistent like today. Should be captain imo.

Mills 5 - Average Championship defender imo. Nothing at all brilliant.

Wellens 7 - Done well. Good passing + movement and tackled well. Bit too slow although.

Fernandes 9 - Good loan purchase, has the ability to compete in the Premiership with how he performed today. Top notch.

King 5 - Anonymous. Frustrating player, especially in knowing he did great last season.

Danns 8 - I loved him playing today, great energy and desire to move up the field with the ball in front of his feet.

Nugent 8 - Looked sharp and dangerous, need these types of player for every game in this league.

Vassell 7 - Agree with poster above.

Gally 4 - Not the best that he can be. Shouldn't have been brought on though.

Everyones entitled to their opinion mate, and I respect yours. Today his delivery was awful, he was very rash and held on to the ball for far too long at times when he could've easily got rid and risked putting us under pressure. For me, he's not shown he's any better than Berner so far.

I agree with Berts grading, except I am not sure I can agree with the marking Bert and other are giving to Konchesky, I thought he had an alright game at least a 6.5

Gallagher was ****ing crap today. His half-arsed approach to centre-forward play was in stark contrast to the tireless Nugent and this was largely responsible for the pressure piling on

I've been saying that he is rubbish for ages. Most of the fans seem to love him but I don't rate him at all. He doesn't challenge for headers, he doesn't tackle, he turns his back constantly, he is easily brushed off of the ball, he can't beat players etc etc

Nugent coming off was the difference. Howard should have been on the bench because, although he has no pace, he will be able to hold the ball up which is something none of the other strikers except Nugent can do.

Schmeichel 7 (One outstanding reaction save and steady all round until the great codntroversy. He was asking for trouble with his actions but that doesn't make the referee right or absolve him from contributing to all that happened with his rank bad decision concering the penalty).

Pantsil 6 (Bad mistake in not preventing the cross for their second goal - albeit that the goal should never have stood. In fact Forest made too several threatening raids through his department)..

Mills 6.5 (Much improved and seemed to have a good understanding with Bamba in the first half. As we started conceding space too easily and the pressure increased in our penalty box, it all became a bit panicky but there is no way Mills was at fault afor the penalty. He had no idea where the ball was).

Bamba 7.5 (Won almost everything in the first half and was sound in his distribution. Second half less impressive along with everyone else).

Konchesky 6 (Okay first half but exposed too often in the second when we gradually allowed Forest on to us and failed to deal with their resulting momentum).

Wellens 7 (A general in command til half-time bit faded badly, because, like others, he found all the space crowded and no-one making attacking runs).

Fernandes 8 (By far his best performance, topped by a goal, an assist a stack of worthwhile interceptions and more. Man of the Match by some way).

Danns 7 (Asked more questions with his positive running and refreshing willingness to take people on).

King 6 (Steady contributions all over the field but nothing to set him apart except for a clever dummy in stepping over the ball to leave an excellent chance that was not taken).

Nugent 7 (Plundered the first goal from Fernandes' cross by driving himself into exactly the right place. Badly missed when he was replaced because of injury).

Vassell 6 (Gave us better options and balance but not outstanding).

Subs:

Gallagher 0 (Can't think of anything he did to help our cause. He just didn't look up to the task of replacing Nugent and doing the job asked of him. It didn't help that we started just conceding possession needlessly in an effort to run down the clock but, for all that, Gallagher never properly pressured the Forest defenders nor did he threaten to conjure something out of nothing. He's not a central striker anyway and Sven should know that by now. Indeed, his starting ahead of specialist striker Schlupp was an insult to the fast, strong and ever enthusiastic youngster).

Weale 1 (Caught one decent cross and cocked up for the goal completely. The cross for the goal was just a standard speculative ball to the back post - the sort of thing he should be dealing with dozens of times a day. He just didn't read it properly or get there).

Abe (N/A)

Nugent - 8 MOTM in my opinion. Ran his socks of and we really suffered when he went off.

Vassell - 5 frustrated the hell out of me, one minuet he was grabbing his leg the next running aimlessly down blind alleys, need to see more from him.

Gally - 4 Pretty poor when he came on, got a few clearances in but didn't really put a shift in.

Weale - 3 what did you do for the goal sunshine.

Abe - 4 came on to try and aid the bus we tried to park, didn't really notice him to be honest....

Gallagher's been tolerated for his goals and assists, many of which come from dead ball situations. But this season he's looked more pedestrian and lacking in energy than before and he just slows us down without offering any real penetration. The impresion is helped by his dead ball kicks suddenly seeming so wayward.

Are you seriously saying Berners as good as konchesky. I think konchesky is being misunderstood he is not an attacking full back and he never has been he is excellent defensively it's refreshing to see a defender at city who can actually defend haven't seen any player who has found it easy against him so far this season. Anyway any rumours Bert ?

Thought all the lads played very well today, with stand out performances from Fernandes, Nugent, Danns and Pantsil. The problem for me were two of the subs (Gallagher and Weale) who contributed to our demise. Gallagher is just too lightweight and never gives the midfield the chance to get up with play and Weale, well yet another disaster at the City Ground. I know I might get slated for this, but Steve Howard was the man needed to steady the ship yesterday when Nugent retired injured. He would have won some free kicks, held the ball up well and helped out in defence from set pieces.

King is a flat track bully. As soon as he comes up against it and we have to dig deep he goes missing - luxury player. gally was awful and weak. Other than that we played suberbly and this performance gives me plenty of heart. I have confidence again in us. now to the walkers - lets sup[port our boys and NOT put them under pressure. 1-0 against the saints will be a good result!

It only seems to be you and me who have the same opinion on Gallagher.

But the decision to bring him on reminded me of another Sven tactical failure. In Euro 2004 when Rooney had to go off, hje brought on Darius Vassell instead of someone like Heskey. The same mistake was made yesterday, bringing on the wrong player in a game that didnt suit him (not that many do). Not having Dyer, Waghorn or Howard on the bench was shocking.

Er, can you not read? I've not said Berner is better. I said Konchesky hasn't shown that he's any better. Either way, PK's defending wasn't up to much yesterday. I've explained my reasons why I thought he was our worst player yesterday and if anyone can tell me any if the things that I've claimed are tosh, I'll hold my hands up.

It wasn't any of you that tweeted some classy comments to Gally was it? <_<

That's a consequence of having just five subs. Mind you, the way we were hoofing and desperately clearing from the time Gally came on, neither of those three would've had much of an impression either. On could argue that Schlupp should've been given a shot instead because of his physique.

I think konchesky is being misunderstood he is not an attacking full back and he never has been he is excellent defensively it's refreshing to see a defender at city who can actually defend

That's a bit harsh on Peltier, Pantsil and Bamba, no? As Bert said, Konchesky floundered quite badly once a bit of pressure was applied. So much for being 'excellent defensively'...

I was thinking of the exact same example (Euro 2004) yesterday as I saw Gallagher flouncing around.

Ironically Vassell off the bench would have been a good option yesterday. What's more, for all I've slated him on here, Waghorn would have been great off the bench.

People thought it wouldn't matter, but having only 5 subs to pick from rather than 7 is already impacting on us.

Yup, before their penalty, Konchesky was running back towards our goal with the ball because he didn't clear it like he should've... Instead he lost the ball, put us under pressure which Mills then cleared for a throw-in. From that throw in, the ball for the "penalty" was swung in.

Schmeichel 5 - Took a couple of crosses well and a decent save from a well struck Findley shot. Should not have been sent off but his behaviour was stupid.

Pantsil 7 - I love this guy. Looked solid, but seems to love a long ball.

Bamba 7 - Solid throughout.

Mills 7.5 - His best game for us. Strong in the air and in the tackle and for once looked relatively comfortable on the ball. The penalty was ridiculous.

Konchesky 6 - One of our better players in the first half but faded very badly in the second half.

Wellens 7 - Kept the ball well in the first half but failed to impose himself in the second half for the 10 minute period before we conceded the penalty.

Fernandes 8.5 - Excellent throughout. I've only been to Forest and Coventry so far, and in both games he's been magnificent. What's more, he's playing slightly out of position. Composed in front of goal, strong in the tackle and tidy in possession. Looks like a great signing.

Danns 8 - His best game for us as well. Great engine and excellent close control. Unlucky not to get on the scoresheet.

King 6.5 - Involved in the first half, disappeared in the second. He can't play at the tip of a diamond though, much as Frank Lampard couldn't when Chelsea tried it initially under Ancelotti.

Vassell 7 - Classic Vassell performance. Worked tirelessly but never looked like he had any idea what to do when he got the ball.

Nugent 8 - A better version of Vassell. Works just as hard but makes cleverer runs. Good chance he'll score 15-20 if he stays fit. All went downhill after he went off.

subs:

Gallagher 2 - I'm not having Bert saying "the only reason he's not playing well is because he's not starting". Danns has been in and out of the team and was excellent. It was a poor choice by Eriksson to bring him on in the first place, but Gallagher's lack of effort, strength and pace let us down badly. That 90 minutes should be shown to schoolkids as an example of the importance of defending from the front. When Nugent was doing that, we had no problems. When Gallagher came on, we were all of a sudden under the cosh. I know it's not his game, and it was a poor tactical decision by Eriksson, but he just didn't look like he was trying.

Weale 2 - Never looked at ease, and I can hardly blame him, given that it was returning to the scene of last year's crime. Hopeless flap for the cross: not good enough.
