Apichet Raksriaksorn, son of City owner and chairman Vichai Raksriaksorn and brother of vice-chairman Aiyawatt Raksriaksorn, said in Thailand last weekend that Eriksson would get the owners' support in January. The pledge from Apichet, who does not hold any official role with City, contradicts the speculation at the weekend that the owners were growing impatient with Eriksson after an indifferent start to the season, and that possible replacements are already being discussed after just six games. "Sven has all the say on what and who he wants," said Apichet at the King's Cup elephant polo final in Thailand. "He has assembled a strong squad. However, if he feels he needs to add to it, we will back him during the next transfer window with whatever funds and resources he needs." Eriksson may have the backing of the owners, according to Apichet, but anything less than promotion to the Premier League will be seen as failure, Vichai's younger son warned. "Leicester are not doing too bad," he said. "We drew 1-1 with Barnsley at the weekend and look very capable of putting together a strong run of results. "Since we have joined, the people of Leicester have really embraced us and the Thai flavour we brought to the region. "Sven has signed some quality players and I believe it will be a successful and exciting season. "I expect us to challenge for the Championship title and be in the Premier League next season. "If we can't get up to the top tier soon, at least within the next few seasons, we will view that as a big failure. "For me, it will be very disappointing if it doesn't happen this season." Apichet revealed that plans were being drawn up for City to fly out for a second trip to Thailand, following their successful friendly against the Thai national team last season. "The plan is for Leicester to come out to Thailand again, perhaps at the end of this season," he said. "We hosted Real Madrid at the King Power Stadium this summer and we very much hope to bring another big-name team in next season too." City will discover the extent of Paul Gallagher's knee injury today after he underwent a scan yesterday afternoon. Gallagher had to be replaced at half-time after falling awkwardly off the side of the pitch towards the end of the first half, and was in significant pain.

Vote of confidence if you like! b) Early assurance to anyone in the wings that more funds would be available. c) Barely veiled warning that while the backing will continue for Sven we are expected to stay in touch with the promotion race. d) An expression of concern and public notice that the manager gets whatever he needs so there's no chance any underperformance will be down to insufficient backing. For me it shows what a extraordinarily fortunate guy Sven is to have the sort of undiluted support most other managers can only dream of. I hope the owners get good value but there's a way to go yet in terms of building a consistent winning team.

It's about time there's more "undiluted support" from football club owners.
