CKB Posted 21 September 2011 Posted 21 September 2011 All this annihilation stuff is ridiculous, Cardiff will be well up for it. It'll be a very tough game. That's bang on, it's silly talk... I am confident but also weary they could do us again!
LCFC_FAN_1995 Posted 21 September 2011 Posted 21 September 2011 Would rarther had Ball in goal than Weale did you see the highlights on SSN?
Ric Flair Posted 21 September 2011 Posted 21 September 2011 Just a thought for you babba... How's about trying to beat them in BOTH competitions.. There's a novelty eh? Why not? Was it asking too much of us to do so? So far you know only one thing.., that we have been dumped out of the cup by Cardiff.. As regards Sunday you have absolutely no clue whether we will win or not. For me it's a shame we are out of the cup.. Another failure... Sundays match is a separate issue and you cannot predict what will happen. Who says we didn't try and win tonight? Prat. We've been beat on penalties with our 2nd team. Had Schmeichel and Beckford played and both got injured and/or suspended and it fooked us over for Sunday, you'd have been the first to moan. Has Malky MacKay or Cardiff faced Beckford much over the years or a few of our other players? Better to keep them unsure on how we're going to play on Sunday. Any psychological edge or advantage can be the difference, especially with 2 teams who had to be separated by a sudden death penalty shootout. Put your Sven voodoo doll down
Happy Fox Posted 21 September 2011 Posted 21 September 2011 Regardless of the result today most important thing is getting results in the league, it would have been nice to progress in the cup, but lest not forget we are still in the FA cup

Aside from putting out a full strength team (which in the event of injuries could have proved a risky decision) it's not like we didn't try to win this evening. I don't think anybody's saying they wouldn't take a win in both competitions if offered it, more that of the two they would rather a win on Sunday. Like you, I'm disappointed that we failed to finish the game off tonight but I don't think it's the end of the world
acooling08 Posted 21 September 2011 Posted 21 September 2011 Who cares? We've won the League Cup before. If it's not the FA Cup then I don't give a shit. Now let's **** em up on Sunday

We lost on penalties, having been leading with 8 minutes remaining. That, to me, suggests we were trying to win the game.

Put your Sven voodoo doll down I think you're line 'we've been beaten tonight 'playing our second team' makes my point,,,, I'd have liked to have won tonight playing a stronger team.. And then looked at Sunday.... A win is a win... And Cardiff ain't gonna roll over and die on Sunday are they... Pratt

McKay will know exactly what Beckford is capable of you dimwit and playing him tonight would have made no difference to that! Just ridiculous....
SugarPuff19 Posted 21 September 2011 Posted 21 September 2011 great to see big stevo back in action ...
accessory Posted 21 September 2011 Posted 21 September 2011 Once it went to penalties we were fcuked. Has Sven EVER won a shootout in his managerial career? But given the number of top Premier sides in the last 16, it was never gonna be our year in the League Cup anyway. Promotion is the priority for us this season. We can and will avenge the result on Sunday when the first-teamers come back.
BlueSi13 Posted 21 September 2011 Posted 21 September 2011 Not overly sorrowful that we are out of the Carling Cup but our record in Wales is really beginning to get on my tits! <_<
Christoph Posted 21 September 2011 Posted 21 September 2011 Not the end of the world but it would have been good to play one of the big teams or something.
The Doctor Posted 21 September 2011 Posted 21 September 2011 Missed this completely - was weale to blame (yet again) by any chance?
Bluebirds Boyo Posted 21 September 2011 Posted 21 September 2011 The majority of Cardiff team where first choice, and to think our second string team dominated them, with Beckford and other key personnel in the side if we play to our full potential, like we did against Brighton we will annihilate them. We made seven outfield changes from last Saturday. That's not to say you can't "annihilate" us next Sunday (and I can't be bothered to debate whether you dominated tonight!), but just to say that the big guns - Whittingham, Miller, Gerrard, McNaughton and company - will return.
Mike the Metal Ed Posted 22 September 2011 Posted 22 September 2011 Missed this completely - was weale to blame (yet again) by any chance? Second arguably.
The Doctor Posted 22 September 2011 Posted 22 September 2011 Second arguably. Ok then, I'll look for a video once I sober up - downed 4 bottles of vodka in order to get a hat.
David Guiza Posted 22 September 2011 Posted 22 September 2011 Considering we made 10 changes to Cardiff's 7 and that we had 2 players on the pitch (Ball and Johnson) who have barely managed 10games between them in the last 2years, I thought we did fairly well. I thought Johnson fitted in well, didn't get forward much but that didn't seem to be his role to be fair. St Ledger had a great game imo, I've not seen the second goal again though so can't say who was at fault. And to the above poster Anthony Gerrard is not a 'big gun' just for the record.
Brown Fox Posted 22 September 2011 Posted 22 September 2011 Stop taking out your arse man? Do you not think Cardiff would have had scouts at the Brighton game? Bluebirds Boyo Posted 22 September 2011 Posted 22 September 2011 And to the above poster Anthony Gerrard is not a 'big gun' just for the record. Really? Possibly, but he's impressed me recently. Hull's Player of the Season to add to his two at Walsall, keeping Keinan out of the side... But okay, whatever.
CKB Posted 22 September 2011 Posted 22 September 2011 Cardiff just like us had some very decent players missing tonight and like i have said before all this talk about whooping them on Sunday is laughable.. It's gonna be a very tough game and of course i hope we come out the winners but as for Cardiff getting thrashed? i don't think so!
Thracian Posted 22 September 2011 Posted 22 September 2011 Regardless of the result today most important thing is getting results in the league, it would have been nice to progress in the cup, but lest not forget we are still in the FA cup Other fans have expressed the same sentiment and that sums up the first and biggest problem in our club - we're not winners. Until we start to hate losing everything from the toss onwards we're going to be doing this. And please don't think I'm making more of this than matters. It's an attitude of mind and you've always got problems if you're thinking about the match in front of the one you're playing. We should hate to lose any match (we even threw the Academy title away last season) but if you leave your only goalscoring central midfield on the bench you're going to be firing on less than all cylinders. As for missing penalties everyone does it but that's no excuse. It's sloppiness and another sign of not attending to detail. Fernandes? When does he ever score? Rarely - just seven goals in 209 league appearances since 2004 and 9 goals in 247 games all told. It's appalling. So why have him on the field when penalties are looming and people like King are sitting on the bench? As for the defeat last night somehow giving us the additional boost of revenge it can just as easily be argued that it will give Cardiff a boost of confidence. It actually has nothing to do with Sunday. We didn't want it enough and have got what we deserved. It's all about attitude and we didn't have it. Which is exactly why we're where we are in the League table. And, once again we conceded two goals. Is it ever going to end? We've been good enough to beat the two table-topping teams in our division but not the also rans. And so it was again tonight. And some of our fans are not bothered. Well, when that attitude changes among both our players and our fans, we'll start winning things.
Finnegan Posted 22 September 2011 Posted 22 September 2011 Stupidly melodramatic post, to be perfectly honest. Sure a winning mentality is an important part of the psychology of any successful club (it's the primary difference between United and the rest of the "top four") but expecting a club in our position to give two hoots about the League Cup is ridiculous. We apparently don't need the cash injection from a cup run, we're not a mediocre, mid-table side with no aspirations except cup performances and - despite an enormous amount of signings - we don't REALLY have the sort of serious depth of squad that'll let us run two completely parallel teams in Cup and League and still be competitive in both. I'm delighted we're out and further delighted we've at least gone out in a dignified manner. I don't give a shit about "revenge" and given how few of the players from that dreadful night are still here, let alone the fact we've had a complete change of staff, I doubt it means anything to the on-field staff either. Plenty of teams this season will throw on their reserves for the League Cup, go out reasonably early, not give a toss and still perform well in the league (some even doing better as a direct consequence.)
