Yes that is the biggest challenge for the man coming in, but he will know that when he signs!

The main thing will be to get results they want prem football next season. nothing less

Sven had to go, he played too many games with crap tactics, with the money and the players we should be higher. I think maybe a manager who is a bit unproven and hungrier might be better.

All in all we need somebody experienced in English football and experienced at this level. Anything other than that would be a major cock up on the owners' part, and put us right back in this position in a year's time tops. So that rules out your Ancelottis of this world I'd like to think.

While O'Neill might not have managed at this level for a long time he has so many other redeeming qualities that make him somewhat of an exception.

What we think we need and what the owners want appears to be different. I'd be very surprised if they didn't go for a big internationally renowned name in order to help spread the LCFC brand, regardless of championship experience. Be it O'neill - Hughes- Benitez- Lippi- Ancelotti...I'd say they all are possibles. The likes of Clarke and Grayson and even Davies I doubt would even be in the frame.

Firstly, I'm not sure Hughes and O'Neill are internationally renowned names.

Secondly, they just sacked Sven on the grounds that he didn't seem to have enough Championship experience despite his international and European experience.

Though I do agree with your last part, I'd be very surprised if any of those came here.

Why did they appoint him then?

another way to look at it is this.

O'neill left us when there was not much more he could do i.e no major funds for players, no stadium expansions and other facilities ect... Now we have all of that dont you think he himself might want a 2nd crack at it. I mean this is where he made his name and if he was given money to spend before he left im sure we would be established prem team 2/3 years down the line, if not more.

Maybe he feels he wants another crack which is why we haven't heard anything from the club or him. and now there just building up the hype

Where do I start....ok, Firstly....Mark Hughes not an Internationally renowned name?? The former striker who played hundreds of games for the 2 biggest biggest clubs in World football? I'm pretty sure he's quite well known. O'Neill- Being a former manager of city and villa whilst both in the Premiership should make him pretty well known. Sven sacked on grounds that no championship experience? He clearly got sacked because the results weren't good enough....to state he was sacked on grounds of inexperience then you would need a direct quote from the owners suggesting such.

For his name.

Now they are realising that all this fannying about with image won't be that useful if we are midtable in the Championship, and that maybe we need someone who knows how to get us out of this league.

So I wouldn't rule out managers just because they aren't a big name, the Thais were serious when they said they wanted promotion and maybe theyve learnt a bit more about what gets you it. I'm also assuming they have spoken/will speak about this with others who may know a bit more about English football.

I've been to Italy and Spain and places like that and most of them really don't care about football 20-25 years ago. They haven't a clue who Gary Lineker is and he won the golden boot at the world cup and played for Barcelona. They know managers and players of the modern era but not necessarily people who were once big players.

O'Neill isn't world famous either.

And yes I phrased it wrong, he was sacked because of results, results which pointed to his lack of Championship knowledge, and they now realise that Championship experience might be important. I'm pretty sure I read words a long those lines in at least one of the numerous newspaper/internet articles I have read since yesterday evening, but if I'm mistaken then fair enough.

Can I just point out that Sven was a Mandaric appointment.

No point arguing about it, but I disagree with that.

That's fine, and I was the same at first...again I'm only going on 2nd hand info. But it is 2nd hand info from 3 different people. Having said that, only one claims to have seen him with the owners....other 2 sources just said he was there.

Am not saying your telling porkys i just dont want to get ANYMORE excited! :trumpet:

Yeh and so was Sousa

True.....Your point?

My point is you both appear to be talking about why they (current owners) appointed him....for his name....and how they should have learned from that mistake. Whilst his appointment was no doubt intended with a view to a sale from Mandaric,....I've not seen anywhere that stated the Thai's had any hand in that nor was it in the terms of sale.

I am not really sure about Mark Hughes it could go either way, is he the man for us I don't know, really desperately want MON but beggars cannot be choosers.

True, I'd be dissapointed if it was Hughes
