surrifox Posted 3 November 2011 Posted 3 November 2011 Butt, Amir and asif all jailed for their part in the betting scam. Serves them right
I am Rod Hull Posted 3 November 2011 Posted 3 November 2011 Butt, Amir and asif all jailed for their part in the betting scam. Serves them right Feel a bit sorry for Amir. 18 years old when he was got at by his captain (Butt).
Fox92 Posted 3 November 2011 Posted 3 November 2011 I'm sorry but I find it so ridiculous that you can cheat at a Sport and get 30 months (2years and a half), yet if you attack somebody in the street you get something like 3 months.
purpleronnie Posted 3 November 2011 Posted 3 November 2011 Have too say I was surprised at the severity of the sentences. I'm not sure how much money was involved though, if it was a huge amount obviously that would be a big factor. I am no law expert but when the judge states hes using the sentences as a deterant much like the judges did jailing some of the rioters it never sits well with me, surely everyone should be treated the same way with the same sentences, jailing someone for stealing a bottle of water just seems wrong.
surrifox Posted 3 November 2011 Author Posted 3 November 2011 if you shell out the thick end of £50 to go to watch a test match or one dayer and it turns out that what you have been watching is all a fix you might feel differently. If you are conspiring to defraud that is a bit like stealing though isn't it?
Head Honcho Posted 3 November 2011 Posted 3 November 2011 I'm sorry but I find it so ridiculous that you can cheat at a Sport and get 30 months (2years and a half), yet if you attack somebody in the street you get something like 3 months. Then you're a fool! Millions of spectators whether it be watching the match live or on TV have shelled out hard earned dough to watch a match and some greedy bastards decide to fix it! The sentences are about right for me.
Head Honcho Posted 3 November 2011 Posted 3 November 2011 They're gonna be in for a hard time in the nick. Probably end up in an open prison like most convicted of white collar crimes!
Corky Posted 3 November 2011 Posted 3 November 2011 Hopefully this is a huge wake-up call for cricket.
FoxyPV Posted 3 November 2011 Posted 3 November 2011 Then you're a fool! Millions of spectators whether it be watching the match live or on TV have shelled out hard earned dough to watch a match and some greedy bastards decide to fix it! The sentences are about right for me. They didn't fix the match. They bowled a couple of no balls that had little or no bearing on the result. However the revelations/ accusations of actual match fixing are coming thick and fast and it appears very little is going to be done about it. In this light, the sentences are extremely harsh.
Thracian Posted 3 November 2011 Posted 3 November 2011 To think that Islamic believers are aiming to provide the moral pathway for the world in a few years time and the hadiths of Islam forever emphasise the virtue of personal sacrifice.and non-materialism! Is there any honesty left in the world?
Webbo Posted 3 November 2011 Posted 3 November 2011 They didn't fix the match. They bowled a couple of no balls that had little or no bearing on the result. You can't convict someone on speculation. These people have been tried , found guilty and sentenced. That's doing something about it.
Guest MattP Posted 3 November 2011 Posted 3 November 2011 As a cricket lover I wanted them to get longer sentences (maybe not Amir and Asif actually, but Butt should of got the full 7), the integrity of this great game is paramount. Could be worse, they could of got the Hansie Cronje treatment.
Guest MattP Posted 3 November 2011 Posted 3 November 2011 Feel a bit sorry for Amir. 18 years old when he was got at by his captain (Butt). I probably agree with this What a shame as well, a talent with the world at his feet. That said, this jail time will look like a picnic compared to the treatment they get when they get back to the Islamic world. They didn't fix the match. They bowled a couple of no balls that had little or no bearing on the result. However the revelations/ accusations of actual match fixing are coming thick and fast and it appears very little is going to be done about it. In this light, the sentences are extremely harsh. Salman Butt has been at it for years and he has finally been caught. That Aussie test was his biggest job....

Rubbish. Their actions exposed bookmakers to massive potential loses. You say they didn't fix the match, but what if they'd lost by one or two runs? Then their deliberate no-balls would have perverted the outcome. They deserve every second of the time they serve. For what it's worth, I think Asif should have received a longer sentence.
ScouseFox Posted 3 November 2011 Posted 3 November 2011 Pretty fair sentences I'd say. Yes, feel slightly sorry for Amir, as an 18 year old I doubt he was given much choice and was mislead etc etc but he would've still known what he was doing to be wrong. Such a shame, more than anything.
Jaspa Posted 3 November 2011 Posted 3 November 2011 They're gonna be in for a hard time in the nick. They grew up on the streets of Pakistan, i doubt they'l get in that deep. On the situation, this isn't even the tip of the iceberg. All sport is currupt as fook
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 4 November 2011 Posted 4 November 2011 They're gonna be in for a hard time in the nick. Asif and Amir should be ok their both tail-enders. This is the best possible outcome people will be thinking twice about cheating now
somebum Posted 4 November 2011 Posted 4 November 2011 I'm sorry but I find it so ridiculous that you can cheat at a Sport and get 30 months (2years and a half), yet if you attack somebody in the street you get something like 3 months. here here

They were asking for 1 million us dollars per no ball, so thinking about it, they probably made a fair few million off the scam, hense the long sentences
BoneDog Posted 8 November 2011 Posted 8 November 2011 Off topic, but has Shane Warne started wearing make-up?! Seen him on SSN a couple of times this week and he looks a bit weird compared to how I remember him.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 9 November 2011 Posted 9 November 2011 Off topic, but has Shane Warne started wearing make-up?! Seen him on SSN a couple of times this week and he looks a bit weird compared to how I remember him. Definately had some work done but he has denied it, he is known over here as Liz Hurleys Man Bag. Good to see him sign up for our new National T20 comp the Big Bash.....signed for my team as well.
