Out of all the midfielders we have I think Gelson was the only one that showed real promise.

Mentioned this in the other thread. He wants to leave, the departure of Sven has left him reeling. Didn't play under the caretaker management and is unlikely to feature with Pearson in charge.

Fit as a butchers dog, the guy has 4 lungs,never stops running when he plays. As for yuki,he is always showing as an option for a player with the ball to pass to,always available. It all depends on how np wants to set the team up . Think we are all agreed we need more width,whether from wingers like Lloyd, or from full backs pushing on more like pva and naughton did last year.

I like Gelson. His impact has been in & out, but like many of our midfielders he's been played wide most of the time. My seat was close to his part of the action in the first half against Brighton, and I thought that he was the driving force behind the team, even though employed out on the left. Out of all those currently in our squad I suspected that he could be the nearest to the central midfield enforcer that we need, and would have liked to have seen him given a go in that role.

However, as others have said, if he's thrown his toys out of the pram then, unless Pearson can turn his attitude round, we don't want him - full stop.

Out of our gluttony of central midfielders, he would have to be the first to go for me. Seems a bit to light weight and has no experience in this league. Priority has to go to Wellens, Johnson, Abe and Danns (I think he will come good).

Fernandes played a blinder at cov and decently for a few games then had some off games where he looked clumsy.

i wouldnt miss him. good player, in theory, but if he was that good surely the likes of richie wellens would be second in line but fact is they arent. gelson is just 'another' player

Anyone who's saying his only good game was Derby is so fickle. Take it you didn't watch either Coventry or Forest both where looked different class. He's a swiss international he's better than any other Central midfielder and only being 25 still has some developing to do. Hopefully he'll stay. Be gutted if he goes back.

NB: Anyone who thinks that because he doesn't have any experience in the league really needs their head looking at. He's played for Switzerland in the World Cup and scored the winning goal against Spain and has played in the Premier League, Serie A and Ligue 1. But I suppose the Championship is a far more superior to all of these. Especially the World Cup.

From what I understand, Oakley will be recalled when his loan ends now there's a new manager. Probably nothing in it and he won't play, but could affect this situation in particular.

I must admit I think all of our central midfielders are way too similar. Although Gelson showed signs of promise and could pass the ball and make stronger runs than Abe, he didn't excel himself and if he leaves it will only be one less problem for Nigel. King, Wellens, Abe, Johnson, Danns can't all play every week and with only 5 subs allowed now it's too much.

One of our better midfielders at times, always looking for the challanege and brought some energy and passion into the team, reminds me of Ramires at Chelsea.

Fair enough if he wants to be off though, came for Sven, first team football and a second crack at the Prem. Currently has no Sven and no football. And we don't look like giving him Premier League football.

Fernandes is a good player, no doubt. However, whereas the Fernandes of the Coventry looked like the Vieira of the Championship, the Fernandes of the other games looked decent but fairly indistinguishable from the likes of Wellens, King and Abe.

If he doesn't want to be here then see ya!

But I just wish he hadn't given all the bullshit about loving it at the club, wanting to stay beyond the end of the season already and the spectacle of giving his shirt to the fans, pumping his fist on the crest after every match, if he was only here because of Sven.

I like Fernandes, he's the only player truly suited to the holding role but we've inexplicably not played him there. His energy can have a a big effect on games, and people saying we don't need a holding midfielder, maybe you have a point now because we've overcompensated by being negative but last season we needed that kind of player more than anything. If we want to play expansive football I think Gelson would be important for the squad at least.

Fernandes has been the best of a woefully underperforming midfield this season, sadly he's still been inconsistent so that says more about the team than it does about him. I do think he's an asset, and I hope he stays. But if he doesn't want to be here then he's no good to us.

We really needed a player like him last season and as long as he actually does want to stay I think it'd be a shame not to have him.

It's harsh to judge him on his inconsistent form this season, if we're doing that only about 3 players in our squad would be good enough, and none of our midfielders would be. I really think he's a useful player if he can get some consistency.

All I mean is out of the games he's played, about half have been very good and the other half poor.

Why would Nigel fob him off at this stage though? Unless he's got the wrong attitude in the first place and that's why he's been left out.
