Libertine Posted 18 November 2011 Posted 18 November 2011 Probably rubbish but a few rumours online that he's gone. Anyone know anything? Hoping not.
Simmo86 Posted 18 November 2011 Posted 18 November 2011 Probably rubbish but a few rumours online that he's gone. Anyone know anything? Hoping not. Article that was linked by a journo on Twitter was in French and with French not being my strong point I had no idea what it said. But I'm guessing the general gist of it was that he 'only came for Sven and wants to leave etc etc'
Ric Flair Posted 18 November 2011 Posted 18 November 2011 Shame if true but as he's not been since since Sven left that it doesn't surprise me. I suppose it means it's one less central midfielder we need to try and find room for, but at times he was quality. Can Wellens go with him too?
RowlattsFox Posted 18 November 2011 Posted 18 November 2011 I like Fernandes, and think he's better than Abe at the defensive midfield role and really think he could have a role to play but with him being on loan and us having too many centre midfielders, he's always going to be that most likely leaves. He's too good a player to be wasting his time here.
absolutelegend Posted 18 November 2011 Posted 18 November 2011 He's too good a player to be wasting his time here. Are we talking about the same Fernandes here? The one I have been watching this season hasn't impressed me at all. He looks uncomfortable on the ball, does little in the way of forward progression, and isn't exactly inspiring in the tackle. Not really sure what he does offer (except running around a lot). With regards holding midfielders - do we really need one? I can't think of that many successful championship teams that need one. I get that you do in International and European football, but not in this league. We just need better players than the opposition and a better method of breaking them down. I think Sven's problem that he seemed obsessed with holding midfielders - swap them for a wide play any day of the week for me!
Joe. Posted 18 November 2011 Posted 18 November 2011 Disappointed if so. I haven't seen too many matches this season but I've always liked what I've seen from him. I never understood why he hasn't been in the squad in recent weeks - for me I'd say he's even our best midfielder. Johnson could turn out to be eventually, mind.
paulsherwood1 Posted 18 November 2011 Posted 18 November 2011 Have to agree with absolute legend. The Brighton game is a great example. The team played very well, although gelson had a very poor game. He did ok in the opener vs Coventry, but he hasn't really stood out as the player I would have expected. I for one won't be disappointed as I feel midfield has been our big weakness this season. Only Johnson has shown the true quality to warrant a place. Wellens and king have not been allowed to play their natural games, causing a loss of form, and abe, dyer, gelson and Danns have all been average. Gally is best used wide right when fit, but that has been his problem.

I do worry Nige will favour our permanent players over those two tbh. Especially Wellens over Johnson.
cc_star Posted 18 November 2011 Posted 18 November 2011 Dont panic Nigel will recall Oakley Joking aside,if you are joking, Oakley was great at the end of last season, and whilst hardly the future knows how to do a job. ------- Fernandes, if you are to leave, I recall a great game against Derby who forgot how to tackle for 90mins, but aside from that have rarely looked like doing anything remotely close to dominating a game. You need more than flashes of looking good to do well in this division. Goodbye.
Raj Posted 18 November 2011 Posted 18 November 2011 No tears from me if he has. A few decent mins on the ball. Another CM to float in and out of games He aint no Oakley.
Callabinho Posted 18 November 2011 Posted 18 November 2011 I did hear he threw his toys out of the pram following Svens dismissal, hence why Stowelly didn't pick him, I saw this coming in all honesty!
acooling08 Posted 18 November 2011 Posted 18 November 2011 'Only Johnson has shown true quality' I can't believe what I'm hearing!!

Number 6 Posted 18 November 2011 Posted 18 November 2011 Shame if true because he could be useful for us and always provides energy. However, if this is the attitude he has then we're well shot of him.

We'll keep Ritchie and get him pulling the strings
Guest Col city fan Posted 18 November 2011 Posted 18 November 2011 Can't believe how fickle some peeps are... A month or do back everyone was singing Gelsons praises. Along with Nugent many were saying he was Svens best signing. I rated him as ok.. Nothing more For me it's no major shakes if he's gone/going
Fox92 Posted 18 November 2011 Posted 18 November 2011 Not to bothered if he has gone. If the does want to leave because of Sven, just terminate his loan then. We have far to many midfielders, especially the same type; King, Johnson, Fernandes, Abe. Personally, I think Abe is the best defensive midfielder we have, I would like to see him sitting behind the midfield/infront of the defence more often. Can Wellens go with him too? We haven't seen the real Wellens this season because he has been asked to be a different player to what he is. He isn't a defensive midfielder, he is a player to get on the ball and drive from midfield - something we saw him doing last season, and something, I saw him do in the second half at West Ham away.
hackneyfox Posted 18 November 2011 Posted 18 November 2011 Out of all the midfielders we have I think Gelson was the only one that showed real promise.
volpeazzurro Posted 18 November 2011 Posted 18 November 2011 No great loss if he's got the ump and goes imo. He's not greatly impressed me along with any of Sven's other midfielder signings (with the exception of Johnson on loan as he has had to gain full fitness in fairness and may still come good). It's not that any of them are bad players, it's just that in my opinion they're not any better than what we'd already got. They also in fairness had to put up with Sven's perennial favourite pastime of playing people out of position one week and changing the team the next. The need for width has been done to death but also, not one of his purchases came close to being one of those midfielders that could thread a ball through, just more 'one paced' tryers e.g. Danns gives lots of effort but gives the ball away a lot and was even less effective when Sven stuck him out on the left and put poor old Schlupp into an almost right wing position one game. I think under NP all the players will be in n of doubt of what is expected of them as individuals and also what their particular job for the day will be in comparison to under Sven when sometimes they looked as if they were lacking a good briefing of what if any tactics were being employed.

Shaun Derry and Alejandro Faurlin at QPR are both holding midfielders and were colossal last season. As was Mark Gower for Swansea. Infact every team I can think of has a defensive midfielder in their team. Reading had Leigertwood and that Turkish lad. Cardiff had Olofinjana. Forest had McKenna. The list goes on.
woddyuk Posted 18 November 2011 Posted 18 November 2011 Fit as a butchers dog, the guy has 4 lungs, never stops running when he plays. As for yuki,he is always showing as an option for a player with the ball to pass to,always available. It all depends on how np wants to set the team up . Think we are all agreed we need more width, whether from wingers like Lloyd, or from full backs pushing on more like pva and naughton did last year.
Happy Fox Posted 18 November 2011 Posted 18 November 2011 We definitely need a defensive midfielder, Yuki is the only one that comes close to this role but he is too lightweight, someone like Jay Spearing could do this role well as he testified for us in this league and for Liverpool.
