Is Dougie Freeman on crack?!

Hes deluded I'll give him that. They didnt just lose 1-0 fgs, the got hammered 3-0. A "better team" doesnt lose 3-0. Clearly has his head up his arse.

dougie freedman thinks they were the better team for 60 mins? What game did he watch?

Well they had 3 shots on target. We had 10. They had one decent spell in the 2nd half but that was it.

Thought the ref was a bit of a test at first, but he let the game flow as much as he could, consistent with decisions and didn't get really anything wrong.

Didn't have to move, made things a lot easier.

Good save that it was, a decent striker would have buried it and given Kasper no chance. Should have been a goal, end of really

Agree with this.

We played the long ball too often in the first half, it isn't going to work very often because Beckford and Nugent aren't going to win much in the air. We played our best football in between the goals when the game was stretched, we showed that when we want to we can really pass the ball. We need to be positive in possession more often and try and pass through them, not overplay it, but play at a high tempo.

Without trying to give him too much stick, Beckford does make it hard for us to do that with a lack of movement and not being able to hold onto the ball for any amount of time.

Unless there's a vast improvement in his general play and work ethic, Beckford's legacy here will depend on how often he scores. With people like Heskey, for example, they don't necessarily have to score. They do other things from which the team benefits as a whole. You could say, of course, that Beckford has to be watched and that fact alone makes defenders uneasy.

But he seems to have such a poor touch and is so easily pushed around it's hard to imagine him as a striker and certainly not one who others will often be able to feed off or benefit from.

With many strikers - quite apart from their goals - you either get their ball-holding ability, their off-the ball running, their ability to play other people into the game or their willingness to chase things down. Sometimes you get a combination of those things.

With Beckford it seems to be goals or nothing and, the trouble is, you're often going to need the other, selfless aspects, to prise points from difficult situations and to win things.

Unless either he scores so often the manager can forgive most anything, or Pearson and his coaches can effect improvements both to his technique and to his mentality.

I don't imagine they'll correct every flaw but it might be worthwhille working on some. Assuming his eyesight is okay I'd think any decent coach could improve his ball control. He's got the first touch of a brick wall and the second touch of a bloke wearing zig-zag boots. If the football was an equestrian fence he'd rarely complete a round without at least four faults.

There looked like so much to work on today there'd be no need for the lad to have a day-off this side of Easter! And yet he could have had a simple hat-trick - and perhaps four if he'd collected that Kasper kick out of the sky and just slipped in past their 'keeper...an almost identical chance to the one he missed in a previous game.

In the end it wll depend on Pearson's patience and Beckford's desire to make the best of his ability or otherwise.

Once Beckford had scored and he got that boost from the crowd, his surge into the box when he intercepted the ball was fantastic, just got unlucky with his shot.

He's gonna do well for us, he's a great asset to have.

Would you all rather have Fryatt back or keep Beckford? I know beckford wins for me hands down everytime. Yes he has flaws, but even the top players have, and we're currently a second tier team.

What did he do with that shot after his goal, it was hard to see from where I was sitting. Did it he defender get a touch to slow it down?

Did any one else spot Pearson heading thin air today :crylaugh: up to his old tricks again.

I loved it when the first goal went in. I wanted to see his reaction. He turned to the fans in the West stand and put both his fists in the air and held them there cheering. Great to see. :)

Easy to say that afterwards. Their striker seemed to make a massive effort to get on the end of that ball and Kasper's there to try and save the seeminly impossible.

Even in pre-match warm-ups he spends a lot of time making point-blank reaction saves. Maybe he follows the old adage....the more you practice the luckier you get!

I don't deny Kasper did well to claw it out, but it looked like a pretty simple, point blank header to me with the striker running in on the ball. Either side of the keeper and it's in.

I bet he's kicking himself for missing it

Jesus, Gallagher's second goal is mental! Brilliant technique. All the goals were good.

Let's hope we can kick on from here and please don't start another "We are no longer a good Championship side" thread. :lei1: ARRRRR

Palace were the better side..... for 10 mins after we scored...

Good performance, great result and Gallys goals (particularly the second) were sublime and crushed Palaces resistance not long after it looked like they were going to spoil the party.

People slagging off Beckford will look silly in the long run as he WILL come good and will score a lot of goals for us this season.

There are no real negatives today, just enjoy the win and the return of the great man.

No doubt but I love Kasper's attitude. He doesn't like to see anything in the net, not even his bottle of water.
