Palace Post Match

I think the result was better than the performance, though the display was an improvement on the last three home matches. For a start we had width which used more of the pitch and meant that the midfield wasn't so congested. It certainly allowed Wellens more space, and we began with good intensity and could've taken an early lead if Nugent had connected with Peltier's cross.

Palace had a good spell after we opened the scoring through Beckford after great work by Konchesky, and Kasper made a great save to keep us in front. Then Paul Gallagher took over the game for five minutes with two wondeful goals, the first a beauty curled into the top corner followed by a ferocious shot first time past the keeper from distance. After that the game drifted to the end, but we'd done the hard work.

There are still things to work on, it's not a full recovery by any means, but its nice to be sat here after a win, three goals and a clean sheet. Well done to NP and the players.

Good performance, great result and Gallys goals (particularly the second) were sublime and crushed Palaces resistance not long after it looked like they were going to spoil the party.

People slagging off Beckford will look silly in the long run as he WILL come good and will score a lot of goals for us this

season.

There are no real negatives today, just enjoy the win and the return of the great man.

I agree with you but them's big words about Beckford....

Hope you're right but the jury's out for me, as it always has been

Today he took his goal sublimely... Smack! And it was in

The second finish soon after was dog turd..

lol

People will continue to slag him off even whilst he's scoring. Take today for example. Or the 6 months of last season that Yakubu scored regularly in...

Some people seem to genuinely prefer effort and passion over goals and victory. Or want both.

I've seen footage of a hell of a lot of Beckfords goals and his pace, touch and finishing can be and has been top drawer. You don't lose that sort of ability, he has lost his way a bit and hasn't performed as well as expected yet. Why? I can only put it down to (despite his bravado) confidence. It's not the supply because he has missed some relatively easy chances, today obviously being one.

This is where the manager earns his corn, NP needs to work out how to get the best out of the guy, boost his confidence and get him firing again. When he does, we'll see a different player and one that will score a hatful at this level.

I agree with you SP and I hope Becks gets his confidence back. There are signs of quality but a couple of bad games and I won't be surprised if Pearson looks elsewhere.

Continue scoring and he'll get the knack back.

As I said his goal today was sublime.

Fingers crossed...

Exactly, and the Yakubu comparison is spot on. Both players have a history (at times) of being moody, lazy, disinterested but their stats tend to provide a different picture of consistent goals and assists.

It's easy to love people like (the obvious example) Hume but it's not about running about like a headless chicken, it's about being at the right place at the right time. Same goes for Waggy, wears his heart on his sleeve and gives his all but the end product (as yet) is not quite there.

Our very own Gary Lineker never ran about like a madman but his goal record was none too shabby.

The only question mark is whether NP can get the best out of him and how long his patience will last if the (alleged) attitude remains. But I think NP can spot a good player and realise how important he can be for us this season and will probably afford him maybe more time and attention than he would normally offer.

Can't agree that a good comparison can be made between the Yak and Beckford.

Both can appear Lazy but the yak was much better than Beckford with his back to goal and, from what I've seen so far, a better finisher with power as well as pace.

The yak got involved in build up play more than Becks.

However, I'm saying this is my opinion SO FAR... If Beckford improves over the next few games I'll be well happy.

Christ on a bike and I thought I was a pessimist ! We just won the game three nil ,Beckford scored the opener and yet we still have winging little school girls on here slating the players. Go hang your cerebral challenged empty heads in shame , and while were at it I hope the Falcon seeks you out and pecks your cock eyes out .

Beckford needs a run of games for me. His spell here has been blighted by injury and that has disrupted his progress.

He'll improve.

Just seen the goals. I can't believe more isn't being made of them. They were sensational!

2 goal of the season candidates in one game.

I think one of Nigel's priorities is to get the best out of the squad and Beckford has probably been underperforming the most. If we can get Beckford and Nugent performing to their best then we have a potent strike force, but it will take time. They need to develop a partnership and an understanding with each other and the rest of the team. They need to get used to Nigel's style of play, in training they should just get Kasper to pump balls up to them, I am not advocating the long ball, but at times Kasper is going to lump it forwards and we nearly got a goal from it today, but normally Kaspers clearances were normally won by Palace defenders.

My only fear is that Beckford will fall out with Nigel and if that happens then he will soon be out the door.

Apparently there's a season ticket holder in Newquay don't know who it is I've only made it to 1 game this season doesn't help our car does approx 22mpg

A city fan on his way home to Cornwall phoned 606 from the M5 tonight. I was also on the M5 at that time but didn't have as far to go as him. Respect

Would you prefer ridiculous over optimism and everyone getting carried away and believing we are the best team in the world? We had enough false optimism under Sven lets all be realists for a while.

Great result, great goals, average performance, still work to be done to get promoted this season.

Beckford clearly needs an arm around him to tell him he's good so we get the best from him, not sven's little pat on the back. NP is doing this already and gave him a massive man hug when he came off. The spring is back in his step, had it been under sven he wouldn't have bithered to run for the interception to even get his second chance.

My favourite part of todays game was at 1-0 (I think) and Beckford had just stood there when he should have put the defender under pressure for the umpteenth time, and someone behind me said 'come on Yakubu, you can't just stand there' lol

I noticed that. Pearson will be good for Beckford.
