Webbo Posted 28 November 2011 Posted 28 November 2011 Coming back to Farage, it's just a very trendy thing to slag off Germany right now (one of the biggest lenders of money and probably the biggest economic engine in the whole European Union) - and he knows best as when to come up with the perfect timing. In times of crisis, the ones who always knew best are the first ones to take stage. Tbf he has been saying that kind of thing for years.
Fox92 Posted 27 April 2014 Posted 27 April 2014 Anyone see him on Have I Got News For You the other week? Was a decent viewing. Didn't realise his personal assistant is his wife who is German .. Talking about double standards (again).
Buce Posted 27 April 2014 Posted 27 April 2014 Doesn't make you a bad person. http://www.foxestalk.co.uk/forums/public/style_emoticons/#EMO_DIR#/unsure.gif That's a matter of opinion.
ozleicester Posted 28 April 2014 Posted 28 April 2014 What he's said about Greece and Italy is 100% correct, the EU have removed their democratically elected govts and replaced with puppet regimes. The man they have put in charge in Italy has never been voted for by anyone. Quite frankly it stinks. In all fairness they've put a man who's actually qualified (an economist) in charge to deal with the mess that a corrupt politician who won a popularity contest got them into. However undemocratic that maybe its far more democratic than Italy has been under Berlusconi. Havent listened, dont know.. but just on this point.. to be fair.. The general Italian public has never decided who is in charge have they?

Fox92 Posted 28 April 2014 Posted 28 April 2014 How so? What does a personal assistant do? Basic stuff really. Assisting etc... Why couldn't he have employed a British person then if these European's are taking our jobs? Someone asked him that same question and he couldn't answer it.
bovril Posted 28 April 2014 Posted 28 April 2014 I wouldn't say it was double standards but it is slightly ironic.

The same people that are shouting hypocrite, are the same people calling him a racist a few weeks ago. Pot kettle?

If a British person takes a British person's job is that an example of a European taking a British person's job since British people are European? This xenophobia thing can be so confusing...
RobHawk Posted 28 April 2014 Posted 28 April 2014 These may add a little context! Although stokes isn't stupid and im sure he's seen these. Farage's reason for not employing somebody British is that he needs someone that can help him at midnight before he goes to bed. Sounds like poor time management to me. Lets be honest the biggest reason most employers employ EU migrants is because they will work hard for (or just above) minimum wage. Alot (not all) of the british unemployed can't be arsed! I want to know what UKIP will do about that?
Strokes Posted 28 April 2014 Posted 28 April 2014 Also a German married to a British national, are they now not also British?
RobHawk Posted 28 April 2014 Posted 28 April 2014 Also a German married to a British national, are they now not also British? not really! She's still German!
bovril Posted 28 April 2014 Posted 28 April 2014 Germans are ok though. They don't steal British jobs. Neither do Chinese, Mexicans or Koreans. Only Eastern Europeans steal British jobs, I thought that was clear by now.

Remove the easy competition for labour and wages will rise and having a job will have value.

Remove the easy competition for labour and wages will rise and having a job will have value. If they have no pride and can't be bothered to work now why would they all of a sudden become employable just because they get no money from the state? It may force them to go out and start looking a little more but it isn't going to stop them being lazy and work shy!
Strokes Posted 28 April 2014 Posted 28 April 2014 Alot of politicians employ their wives as assistants, I would imagine it helps them maintain a relationship. Its not uncommon in private businesses either, so really the only issue is, that his wife is German?
purpleronnie Posted 28 April 2014 Posted 28 April 2014 Pathetic scaremongering, but I don't blame them because they know plenty of voters are swayed with these types of adverts.
Guest MattP Posted 28 April 2014 Posted 28 April 2014 Pathetic scaremongering, but I don't blame them because they know plenty of voters are swayed with these types of adverts. The people who are affected by these things are swayed by it. We aren't all buying Savile Row suits Ronnie, some people at the lower end are really struggling due to the freedom of movement policy. Easy to pass it off as scaremongering if you're rich or in a professional middle class position and oblivious to that.

Its not a problem to me that he employs his wife or that she is German, but reading those posters and then hearing that does seem like hypocrisy. I'll be honest i think UKIP are a pathetic excuse for a political party. You go back far enough and non of us are "British", why so many have this island mentality of keep everyone out i don't know. Thats not to say i don't think things should change, its not perfect the way it is now, but i have no time at all for what UKIP say and represent.

Skilled jobs have become devalued by a mixture of the minimum wage and an influx of cheap migrant workers. If you remove competition WAGES for jobs will rise. I don't think the majority on benifits are lazy, I think they are unmotivated by a undervalued labour market. Given the chance to 'better' their circumstances, they would.

Easy to pass it off as scaremongering if you're rich or in a professional middle class position and oblivious to that. I'm becoming increasingly sceptical about the freedom of movement policy but when you get adverts like that and you hear the kind of rhetoric coming out of some quarters of UKIP it blows all chance of debate out of the water.

But there are alot of people on benefits long term that go through motions. If somebody really wants a job they can go out and get one! Jobs are there! But people don't want to try, its too much effort or beleive the jobs they could get are below them. I started out as a cleaner and worked my way up. Im proud of that but many would never even consider doing the job i did!
