Webbo Posted 1 May 2014 Posted 1 May 2014 Egged in Nottingham. http://www.itv.com/news/central/story/2014-05-01/farage-gets-egg-on-his-face-or-shoulder-in-nottingham/ You see, what ever you think of his policies, I find that totally unacceptable. We live in a democracy and he should be allowed to air his policies freely without any kind of threat. Ironically the people who egged him probably think he's a fascist.
Guest MattP Posted 1 May 2014 Posted 1 May 2014 I think this could start getting quite nasty on the ground with politics this summer. You've got these disguised far left/communist groups like Hope not Hate and Unite Against Facism (irony alert!) that have decided to pursue Farage around like he's Nick Griffin. Seen a few things on their website and a video on Youtube where they were intimidating and shouting at pensioners attending a UKIP meeting. Sure it's part of the plan, get a few clashes going, Farage has to have BNP type muscle following him wherever he goes = much easier to portray as a party of far right thugs, hopefully the public won't fall for it.
Nick Posted 1 May 2014 Posted 1 May 2014 A good read: http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/news/danhodges/100269687/nigel-farage-will-pay-the-price-for-taking-the-british-public-for-fools/

People can shout and scream at him all they want but physically attacking him is not acceptable.

We all know a lot of the traditional voters will return back to the main parties in 2015, it's not a secret, you only have to look at the polling. Despite the assertions that Farage could have turned UKIP into something different, absolutely no chance, the mainstream media in the pockets of the Lab/Con political parties wouldn't let him for a start. As for taking a chance on standing in Newark, as me and Alf Bentley both said from either side of the political platform, it would have been suicidal. Safe Tory seat and it would have looked like he was putting himself before the European Election campaign.
Nick Posted 1 May 2014 Posted 1 May 2014 This made me chuckle too - sorry if it's already been posted: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jZjFx2I9uU8
Nick Posted 1 May 2014 Posted 1 May 2014 Not sure Farage would appeal to the insular folk of Lincs/Norfolk, as he's very "saloon bar South-East". Maybe somewhere like Peterborough - Tory seat but sizeable Lab support, very high immigration recently....could be a good place for him to stir up fear and xenophobia. This.
Webbo Posted 1 May 2014 Posted 1 May 2014 Alf was joking Nick. I +1 you. Just saying so Nick doesn't have to tell everyone.

midland_red Posted 1 May 2014 Posted 1 May 2014 this man is a political charlatan. He used to be a City trader remember. It is easy to be against somehting, much harder to say what you would do about it. (none of this excuses the other parties BTW which, between them amount to an anti working class conspiracy). Come back Cromwel!!

(none of this excuses the other parties BTW which, between them amount to an anti working class conspiracy). Come back Cromwel!! Well UKIP have one more issue at least than the BNP they have Europe and Immigration. This for me makes them twice as impressive. I just can't see how anybody can take this fella seriously - he's jumped on the two issues that the media use to scare middle Britain and is flogging us all to death with them. It's like an episode of Black Mirror - The weather that's going to freeze all of Britain is coming, Wills and Kate's Marriage might be in trouble, Romanians have been studying English in order to apply for the Jeremy Kyle Show and prisoners may get human rights. Now who has to f**k the pig to stop this crazy madness.
Guest MattP Posted 1 May 2014 Posted 1 May 2014 Are you a completely in on Europe then? No reform, no questions, nothing, just carries on as the political gravy train that it is and we'll keep the richs snouts in the trough while the poor scrap around the bins for food? Shameful. It's amazing how many seem to be falling into a left/right argument over Europe. Never thought I'd say this but boy do we need Tony Benn back.

What amazes me is, the left are more likely pro Europe than the right generally. When if you break it down, the concept of the EU is very right wing. More so now than ever before.
Alf Bentley Posted 1 May 2014 Posted 1 May 2014 Alf was joking Nick. Was I though? In all seriousness, I wouldn't see UKIP as xenophobes, more reactionary Little Englanders. And all parties exaggerate and use fear to win votes: - The Tories go on about Labour's "tax bombshell"; - Labour go on about "the NHS not being safe in Tory hands" - UKIP go on about 26 million Romanians wanting our jobs There's usually a seed of truth in these scare tactics: Labour is more likely to put taxes up; the Tories are more likely to under-fund or part-privatise the NHS; and the arrival of a few thousand Romanians could have adverse effects on pay/job security for some people. It would be good if all of them could make their cases more honestly, but I suppose they know that scare tactics work with quite a number of voters.

Rincewind Posted 1 May 2014 Posted 1 May 2014 Had a leaflet through the door from a local UKIP candidate. It had a list of proposals some I agree with some I do not. Well most I do not. They wan an Australian ype border control. Jobs only for British scrapping the high speed train and the money put into improving the roads and trains a better NHS and better conditions for older people; And of course no EU. Not sure about the EU thing. I'm skeptical as how we would manage independently. Who would trade with us and would foreign inverters sell to us?

Who would trade with us and would foreign inverters sell to us? we managed fine before the eu. who would trade with us? well, lots of people if we make trade attractive. Europe isn't the whole world and even then leaving the EU wouldn't mean an end to trade with Europe if we still have things that people in Europe want. Trading happens between people not governments, the state can make trade with people who live in a certain country more difficult by increasing tariffs and other regulations but I doubt European governments would be daft enough to cut off their nose to spite their face.

Foreign inverters wouldn't work, they don't have the right plug. You could get an adapter I suppose.
