Adster Posted 27 November 2011 Posted 27 November 2011 We have a strong chance of going into the top 6 if we win. Meaning we'll lose, or draw.
themotivator Posted 28 November 2011 Posted 28 November 2011 i just hope bamba is patient if SSL stays first choice. I know hes been decent, but bamba has been one of our top performers this year. I would like to think we can do blackpool over if NP starts to hit his stride.
Thracian Posted 28 November 2011 Posted 28 November 2011 Barring injuries it's hard to see anything but an unchanged team and further effort to put a run of results together. It's the professional, least risky option. There's no way I'd leave Dyer out having given him a couple of games to regain his match sharpness because we need wingers with pace and he's the only one we've got. Danns is not a winger and he's not especially quick. In fact he's not especially anything. We desperately needed pace in the side and Dyer has provided that. If anything we need still more pace. But the only way of adding pace is through Schlupp to that's not going to happen. Yes, Schlupp needs to be involved but there's no way it'll be at the expense of "big buy" Beckford. So another afternoon on the bench is Schlupp's most likely fate and the familiar Gradelesque lottery of whether he gets any action at all. One goal conceded in two difficult games is hardly an argument for Bamba's return either unless Pearson believes it will give us more goal threat at set pieces and there's not much evidence for that. I'm still amazed our big men make so little impact at corners and set pieces. Watching Vidic he has this massive determination to get his head on the ball which just seems to be lacking with any of our players. That and a sufficiently accurate and pacey delivery. I really would like to see our big men attacking the front end of the goal with a bit of attitude, rather like Kompany in scoring for Manchester City, because we really have to add some goals potential from this department. My guess at the result? Mills and Dyer to score in a 2-1 win. .

MPH Posted 28 November 2011 Posted 28 November 2011 Dyer has now had 2 full games to get some fitness in.... the team are getting used to playing 4-4-2 again and i would expect this to be his best game of the season. 2-0 Leicester with Dyer and Beckford scoring.
Thracian Posted 28 November 2011 Posted 28 November 2011 So you criticise that our big men don't make an impact at corners (which I agree with), then guess that Mills will score? Logical There's no logic in it whatsoever except the feeling that it has to happen sometime! I used the word "guess" to be sure no-one took me seriously. Calling City results doesn't go with logic! .
Simmo86 Posted 28 November 2011 Posted 28 November 2011 Chance of getting in the top 6.... 2-nil Blackpool
Ric Flair Posted 28 November 2011 Posted 28 November 2011 They'll play 4-3-3 and so should we. Schmeichel Peltier Mills SSL Konchesky Danns King Wellens Nugent Beckford Schlupp Subs: Dyer, Gally, Bamba, Weale and Fernandes
Fox92 Posted 28 November 2011 Posted 28 November 2011 Same team again for me, we didn't loose. I think it will be a tough game, but it could be open. I can see Blackpool attacking, not parking the bus, meaning there might be goals in the game. Prediction: Leicester City 2-1 Blackpool. Goalscorers: Nugent and Wellens (only said Wellens because he will most probably get hammered by the Blackpool fans and he is the type of player who will thrive under it).
burni Posted 28 November 2011 Posted 28 November 2011 I wonder how many games we have not won when we have had the chance to go top 6. Probably plays on the players minds and if we win it could break that mentality and get us going a bit better, i say a bit because were only the odd resutl here and there from being in the play offs. A great run would see us pushing automatics but i dont think many people would be dissapointed with a play off battle of the end of the season, atleast we would have a chance of promotion that way. Consistancy is important, the current team is not doing bad however it seems theres one or two players who could come in and strengthen it, such as bamba or maybe danns. nothing wrong with a bit of rotation,we could stick them in and put dyer and ledger on the bench for a game and see how it goes. Nigel will know this and i think he will only change it if he thinks it will very likely payoff otherwise i think he would rather keep the same team get them sharper and better playing together, sven would happily change the team in this situation which did not always prove to work, very inconsistent. We have to see that we have scored 4 goals and conceded 1 in the last 2 games, thats good. Give the same team another chance and change it up early if its not working. Betting odds suggest we have a good chance and they are no mugs. Play well and we should win.
davieG Posted 28 November 2011 Author Posted 28 November 2011 Pedantically speaking we are very consistent, consistently performing to a level that puts us just outside the play-offs where we've been all season. What we need is to raise our game so that we actually start to dominate games which we've only done on a few occasions this season. Pearson alludes to it here - http://www.foxestalk.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=78193

MrFox781 Posted 28 November 2011 Posted 28 November 2011 4-1 Trust Me Nugent hatrick and king will get one. .

So can I, so that means playing our fastest, most physical and effective defenders against a team that attacks well. I therefore hope that Bamba returns (who in my book is up against Kasper for Player of the season so far)
Kitchandro Posted 28 November 2011 Posted 28 November 2011 Schlupp should be getting a regular place on the bench. Bringing him on after an hour will do him some good and he might show his potential when we need it. I know some people will think I'm being silly but why is Weale on the bench? He's a liability. At Forest Schmeichel got sent off and Weale played a big part in blowing 2 points by flapping at the cross for the equaliser. It really should have been caught and had he moved his feet properly he would have done. I'd rather have another outfield player on the bench and in the rare event that Kasper is injured or sent off I'd put an outfield player in goal.

I often agree with you but here I think you are being silly. What happens if, horror of horrors...Kasper gets injured in the 5th minute? Are you really advocating putting someone like Howard in goal in front of a recognised keeper and actually, dont forget, a keeper who played pretty well for Pearson before? Too much of a risk for me..

I kinda agree, but because you can only have 5 subs, I feel the chance of a goalkeeper coming off is a lot less likely than needing an outfield player that can change the game. I think the risk is worth it, goal keepers rarely go off. If they do, we'll just stick the lankiest player on

acooling08 Posted 28 November 2011 Posted 28 November 2011 Please get rid of Dyer. Tries hard but is inneffectual at best. Reckon we're gonna go 1-0 up, then start singing Ollie whats the score, then get beat 1-2 in the end.
Guest Col city fan Posted 28 November 2011 Posted 28 November 2011 This Mmmm wonder how many managers across the Championship tomorrow will take such a risk? Please get rid of Dyer. volpeazzurro Posted 28 November 2011 Posted 28 November 2011 Why put Bamba in when St. Ledger and Mills are performing well IMO it's very close but Bamba offers just that little bit more for me than SSL and he and Mills had started to work well together before the 1 match suspension. SSL appears quite solid but is fairly one dimensional with a propensity to 'hoof' as he does for The Rep Ire land (sometimes that's exactly what's required but Mills is very similar but a bit better at it imo). I think a bit of work with Bamba by NP would make him better than both Mills and SS as in the Premiership, the 'hoof' (a 50-50 option) tends to come straight back in the form of another attack. It's only my humble opinion though as I don't think that the joint hoofing of Mills and SSL would work in the Premiership (hows that for blind optimism!).
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 28 November 2011 Posted 28 November 2011 i think it has been suggested in the past but why not try Bamba as a defensive midfielder, would either be suicide or a stroke of genius?

It may be worth a go who knows, but for me personally, whilst he's fairly good on the ball for a centre back, he's no Rio Ferdinand and would be found out pretty quickly. He's a better ball player though imo than our other two options which is why I'd still have him with Mills (though expect the odd bomb scare which goes with the territory).
