The over-rated things thread

LargeAl - Just **** off. The Beatles may not have been everyone's cup of tea and some of their stuff is shit but they basically changed popular music.

Que?

I didn't say they didn't (although Elvis was responsible for the major change first - The Beatles just build on that as far as I can tell) - all I mean is they seem to be regarded as this brilliant band when, IMO, they were a good band and nothing more. Therefore they are quite over-rated, note OVER-RATED, not RUBBISH.

Isn't FoxyPV arguing that they are regarded as a brilliant band not just because of the music but because of everything else they did? And so, if that is the case (which you admit) then maybe they're not so overrated after all? After all, music is so much more to so many people than just people playing some instruments and singing a bit.

I don't know, you'll have to ask him, but even though they did influence the path modern music has taken that doesn't make them brilliant - Led Zeppelin & Nirvana to name but two greatly influenced the path music took and yet I'd say they were over-rated in that they aren't as good a band as consensus suggests.

Oasis are the best band that have ever played, however they did get their influences from the Beatles

Best band that ever played...really? Ever??? That is a very bold statement.

What about Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, The Jimi Hendrix Experience? To name but a mere smidgen. :D

Its all about opinions, i went to see Oasis live on their last tour before they split up and IMO they are the best band that has ever played, just my opinion mind you

It's just a shot, people. And aniseed tastes like shit.

Yes but they basically invented music as we know it and they were ahead of their time or something or other

Haha absolute bollocks. There were many other similar bands around at the time in the UK and USA. The kinks and the Stones being examples. Yes the Beatles are the most popular but 'invented modern music' is going too far.

I think the Beatles are the very definition of overated. They had a few decent songs and are hailed as the best band of all time. Laughable really. A beatles song wouldn't make my Top 100.

I assume its been done... but just in case not.. and considering yesterdays result... Nigel Pearson,
