JonnyBoy Posted 2 January 2012 Posted 2 January 2012 Good news Kennedy & Moore were great by the sounds of it, which is great news for pressing Pelts & Konch Midfield sounded a nightmare. King appeared to be doing it all with Abe going missing in the 2nd half and Danns completely anonymous for 89mins except for goal. Nuge had a shocker, completely anonymous and Schlupp seems to have no strength This is why we were on the backfoot for too long, both players were deservedly subbed Can't believe Howard let NP down like that, luckily it didn't matter in the end I went to the game and Danns was one of the best players on the pitch. King looked Shaky and yes, Nugent was anonymous. Schlupp showed great pace and movement however quite clumsy once on the ball and out strengthed on many occasions! bring on Forest
marbelladave Posted 2 January 2012 Posted 2 January 2012 Can't believe Nige didn't turn us into Barcelona in the 47 hours between games - rubbish Don't be so silly....... NFP made the changes, for whayever reasons, and gave us the best half hour or so we have had in some time, from about the 10th minute right up until Palace scored we were really pretty decent. There were some jitters in the back 3 and NFP reverted to a back 4, lost control of midfield and put us under a lot of pressure. Fortunately Palace were poor in the final third and our last ditch defending good enough. On the other hand our distribution from the back was as bad as ever and our midfield barely had a kick going forward. If you think differently I would be interested to hear why..........?
HEGGSY Posted 2 January 2012 Posted 2 January 2012 is there anywhere I can see the goals on the interweb?
Guest ttfn Posted 2 January 2012 Posted 2 January 2012 The Palace forum is ridiculous. They barely created a chance and they're talking like they should have won 6-0. Given we had a scratch team out it was an excellent performance.
Blueforever Posted 2 January 2012 Posted 2 January 2012 Wasn't able to make the game, but listened to the radio, Fantastic result really hope we can string a few wins together now.... When I heard the team lining up as 3-5-2 I have to be honest it made me very nervous, I'm someone who prefers two lines of four. during the first half the commentators did say that Mills and Bamba were occasionally challenging for the same ball. So when they came out in the second half I was pleased to hear NP changed it. it sounded like the back four and Kasper all had good games. Schlupp sounded like he was quite lively, Abe, Danns and King sounded on the radio like they were ok and were working hard but still frustrating to many passes just role out of play. great that Danns had a decent first half, well taken goal and good delivery I hope if he;s given a few games in that role he had to day he can be more consistent. Good to hear on the radio that it sounded like the team were working hard for each other and a lot of commitment, made it all the more stupid when Howard got sent off for opening his mouth.
JonnyBoy Posted 2 January 2012 Posted 2 January 2012 Alot of positives can come from today, yes its nice to pick up the 3 points but i think the main thing was the reaction of the lcfc players at the end (people who went to the game would understand) it was a huge sense of relief from both the players themselves and the fans also. I hope the lads will be full of confidence and be able to carry this forward. I just hope we can perform at home on a consistant basis, its obvious the players feel alot less pressure when playing away. Looking forward to the Forest match massively, al may i add maybe the forest victory today may raise their crowd on Saturday... any thoughts?
NewburyFox Posted 2 January 2012 Posted 2 January 2012 Delighted after that, absolutely chuffed. Defensively I think we were very good, both first half and second. Mills and Bamba won us the game, if they weren't on top form then we would've lost that. Mills inparticular was superb, won the majority of his headers, was reliable with his clearances and most importantly, gave Moore some much needed support for the duration of the match. I'm delighted for Moore, I saw him at Kettering pre-season and he wasn't great, and as a result wasn't expecting him to be as good as he was today. Thought he was solid on the ball, decent in the air and got his tackles in when needed. Bit of naivety and inexperience where he went to charge down the player for their goal, leaving his man unmarked. Minor blip though on what was overall a good debut. Kennedy on the other flank was very, very good, however Konchesky is far better and should be in the team when fit. However, I'm glad he's at the club and am more than happy for him to be back-up to Konchesky. In midfield we were better than we have been but still not great, especially the second half. We had the usual problems in the second half, no strength or creativity which is why 4 across the midfield away from home isn't working. Luckily it didn't cost us today. Danns had his best game in a blue shirt, put himself about and finished brilliantly for the first goal. (Fantastic assist by their GK, by the way. Really top notch stuff.) King was decent, not great, as was Abe. Dyer was rubbish when he came on. Refused to run at his man, which is a bit of an issue for him as that's the only reason he's on the pitch. Pleased for Schlupp and Nugent today, thought they both did well. Schlupp was better than he was two days ago, but still doesn't link up with his partner. Time and again Nugent was talking to him, telling him where he should be and trying to encourage him. This isn't a bad thing though, Schlupp seems to be a fine finisher with bags of pace, he just needs more experience and an older head to help him learn the game. God knows what happens with Howard, didn't see a thing myself. He'd failed to hold the ball up twice since he'd been on, and that just topped it off. Beckford's effort is shocking. In the later stages of the game, what we need there is someone to just put pressure on the defence, not give them time and in general just ran around a lot being a nuisance. Beckford doesn't do that, and it's so frustrating. Bring him on and the defender's have all the time in the world. Overall, very happy with how it went. The formation in the first half worked well but we had the usual problems with the midfield in the second half, although it worked slightly better today. The result was the priority today, and we got it. Now bring on Forest!

That said, you're right about Beckford.
Guest ttfn Posted 2 January 2012 Posted 2 January 2012 Oh, and another thing, my enjoyment of the game was completely ruined by the sun. I could not see a thing for the whole 90 minutes without shielding my eyes. Not sure if this was a problem for any other FTers?
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 2 January 2012 Posted 2 January 2012 Games like today are the ones that give you confidence. A ground out win, and a good defensive display. Everyone really putting in a shift and putting in maximum effort. Hopefully this is the game which will put us on a run.
flowwolf Posted 2 January 2012 Posted 2 January 2012 Im so glad the shake up paid off, but a man of howards experience , what a plonker...do we never learn... No does HE ever learn ?

I disagree, I thought Mills had one of his best games for us today. Got turned a couple of times early on but was very solid for the rest of tha match. Makes a huge difference when you have a dominant CB winning all of his headers. Oh, and another thing, my enjoyment of the game was completely ruined by the sun. I could not see a thing for the whole 90 minutes without shielding my eyes. Not sure if this was a problem for any other FTers? Yes, nightmare throughout.

Raj Posted 2 January 2012 Posted 2 January 2012 Get rid of all the shite that only came here for the ££££$$$$. Nice to see some yoof coming through. Well Done!
Lettsy Posted 2 January 2012 Posted 2 January 2012 Speaking of post-match reports/talks. Can Stringer actually get some balls and ask NP a question, instead of saying statements which leave Pearson to say umm and err 100 times trying to reply to nothing. Wellens out = Win. Next out. Stringer.
Bugg Posted 2 January 2012 Posted 2 January 2012 The linesman on the side of our fans lost the plot completely. Great finish by Danns, Kennedy MOTM, Moore had a solid debut.
Guest Mee-9 Posted 2 January 2012 Posted 2 January 2012 This forums not changed in my absence, a bit of Bert bashing to kick start the new year. Great win.

5waller5 Posted 2 January 2012 Posted 2 January 2012 Didn't go to the game so won't make comments on player's performances. I actually agree with Bert - how can anyone state their opinion when it comes entirely from a third party commentating on the radio. That's just re-stating an opinion. I have been critical of NP recently and didn't think he had a plan B .... fair play to you Nigel, you showed a plan B and it worked today. New formation and a few shock selections, and finally Danns in for Wellens. The great thing is he has now got the perfect opportunity to keep Danns in, Wellens was rested as he can't play two games in 3 days, but now he can't drop Danns - excellent news all round. Add to that Howard's ban (can we appeal to have it extended?) and it's a bright day all round!!!! NP's reaction to Adam Pearson shows why he came to us so easily - he seems to loathe him!!!
Salieri Posted 2 January 2012 Posted 2 January 2012 Pearson WILL sort us out, how long it will take to turn us into an effective, consistent outfit is another matter. He took the job the first time when we were at our lowest and turned us around in a relatively short space of time. He joined Dull and did a similar job there. (did a far greater job than he gets credit for IMO). The man (and his staff) know exactly what they are doing and are not afraid to make plenty of 'unpopular' decisions to achieve their goals. Whether they can get us up this season is debatable but by the kick off next season they will have their desired personnel in place and that's when we can truly judge them and hopefully reap the rewards. Good result today but i'm not expecting miracles at this point.

It could be weeks before his ban ends.
Babylon Posted 2 January 2012 Posted 2 January 2012 Listening to the post match interview (right at the beginning), is it just me or could some of those left out today be going elsewhere? He mentions players out through "injury and unavailability". He then says it again "some players out with knocks.... (pause) and just decided to freshen it up". It sounded to me like he stopped himself and rushed out the freshen it up line. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/l/leicester_city/9670188.stm

Peltier had a virus, Konchesky had been looking a little jaded in recent games and the other two have been liabilities in recent away matches. The manager was brave enough to make changes and we should be glad that they paid off. Howard's absence for the next three games is an added bonus.
Thracian Posted 2 January 2012 Posted 2 January 2012 Add to that Howard's ban (can we appeal to have it extended?)...! Haha .... wonderful. I can see the Mercury next week: Leicester City today succeeded in a passionate appeal to have Steve Howard's ban trebled. Leicester's plea was based on a poll of fans who said the centre-forward was "past it" and insisted the authority had not taken that into sufficient account when imposing the standard sentence. Agreeing to the extended ban a spokesman for the Football League said: "It was an unusual decision but after watching video replays of Howard's last two performances we had no real option but to sympathise with the fans...."
