Guest Col city fan Posted 2 January 2012 Posted 2 January 2012 Pearson WILL sort us out, how long it will take to turn us into an effective, consistent outfit is another matter. He took the job the first time when we were at our lowest and turned us around in a relatively short space of time. He joined Dull and did a similar job there. (did a far greater job than he gets credit for IMO). The man (and his staff) know exactly what they are doing and are not afraid to make plenty of 'unpopular' decisions to achieve their goals. Whether they can get us up this season is debatable but by the kick off next season they will have their desired personnel in place and that's when we can truly judge them and hopefully reap the rewards. Good result today but i'm not expecting miracles at this point. Good post.... I agree
Corky Posted 2 January 2012 Posted 2 January 2012 Listening to the post match interview (right at the beginning), is it just me or could some of those left out today be going elsewhere? He mentions players out through "injury and unavailability". He then says it again "some players out with knocks.... (pause) and just decided to freshen it up". It sounded to me like he stopped himself and rushed out the freshen it up line. http://news.bbc.co.u...ity/9670188.stm Enough of the conspiracy theories. Back to the Sven bashing
Babylon Posted 2 January 2012 Posted 2 January 2012 Isn't this the type of speculation/scaremongering you whinge about when someone else posts it on here? Peltier had a virus, Konchesky had been looking a little jaded in recent games and the other two have been liabilities in recent away matches. The manager was brave enough to make changes and we should be glad that they paid off. Howard's absence for the next three games is an added bonus. No it's me asking a question, once, in one thread, based on words actually spoken by our manager, that are there for all to listen to. Which differs somewhat from you personally slating certain players, in thread after thread, and basing all your arguments nothing but message board gossip.

accessory Posted 2 January 2012 Posted 2 January 2012 No it's me asking a question, once, in one thread, based on words actually spoken by our manager, that are there for all to listen to. ...and which you are spinning, to an extent which would make Alastair Campbell blush, to suit your own purposes. Which differs somewhat from you personally slating certain players, in thread after thread, and basing all your arguments nothing but message board gossip. It's my view, which many other posters share, that some of those players have been holding the team back. The fact that in their absence, we won an away league game today for only the second time in nearly five months, is more evidence to back that case.
Dan Posted 2 January 2012 Posted 2 January 2012 I'm very surprised at the Palace consensus of calling us "lucky" and "absolutely dire". They were an extremely mediocre side who had very in terms of penetration, bar their goal, they rarely tested us, for all their posession in our half. On the whole, a real typical Championship game, we went into it hopeless and leave with 3 points. The team-sheet was unbelievable, I couldn't believe my ears when I heard Kennedy/Moore were playing, I actually said to my mate the night before to not rule Kennedy out of a future with us 100%, purely because Berner's off, Ball's off, and he was actually a Pearson signing who he never got to use, I didn't think he'd actually play though. He really did play though didn't he? What a cracking display, maybe not as good going forward as Konchesky, but defensively he was excellent, top effort from him today. Liam Moore I feel if Peltier had put in that display people would've slightly questionned him, but only slightly - but what can you expect? Incomparable considering it's his first senior game for us, on the plus side, he's another good tackler, although his touch was occasionally poor and he made a mistake in closing Garvan down rather than keeping with Parr, he made a solid debut, there's encouragement for me, he's a talent which we can improve, fair play to him. The midfield proved how weak it is today - the fact is when we had 3 there it was competitive, when we went back to 2, it was pretty over-ran, like most games, but credit really, I thought individually Danns, King and Abe all had good games, especially Danns who I'm delighted for, a great finish (very fortuitous admittedly to get it but he still had work to do) and an all-round good display, which I've been hoping he can produce, I'd like to hope he's ready to give Forest another raping like he did in August. Tunchev looked poor for me, lacked fitness, but again we've got away with it so all is good, he'll improve with time. Mills was Mills, passing inconsistent, turned too easily at times but generally solid, Bamba, if he played more team-like, he'd be a Premier League player, his individual ability is absolutely top class, however working in a defensive 4 he's a little shaky, not today though, brilliant covering for mistakes from others and a first goal of the season. I was screaming at him to shut the fvck up though with the ref, I thought he was already on a yellow though so what do I know, didn't do himself any favours though. Schlupp ran his bollocks off but didn't really produce too much, same as Nugent, good efforts from them but can do better, surprised people are so miffed at Beckford, I didn't think he was that bad and in-fact I was impressed at the fact he stayed up front when we defended corners, it's a mistake we've been making for ages. Howard's a bit of an idiot though, he's blown it for himself because his chances now will be EXTREMELY limited due to the timing of the red as well. On the whole, a very good win at a tough ground to go to, 3-5-2 isn't totally to my taste but I'll say it worked well today and it's a good formation considering we've got ambitious full-backs and a shocking amount of good wingers available, so a good effort from NP and we move on to Saturday.
Leicester_Loyal Posted 2 January 2012 Posted 2 January 2012 Looks like we won't need cover for LB now, Tom Kennedy looks good enough!
The Year Of The Fox Posted 2 January 2012 Posted 2 January 2012 Just seen our goals. Danns' was superb. Would've looked even better had the camera been behind it
fleckneymike Posted 2 January 2012 Posted 2 January 2012 Just got back. Have to agree with Bert that if you didn't watch it (and that's not a dig about loyalty or passion) then commenting on individual performances is a bit odd. Thought we were slightly fortunate, very dogged but masters of our own problems in many places. Tunchev, to me, looked well of the pace and in no way is a suitable replacement for Mills or Bamba. The fullbacks/wingbacks were fine BUT the reason people believe they played well was because they had so much to do due to our style and formation. We still play far too many long balls and consequently spend prolonged period chasing shadows. That is why our midfield looked so poor at times because they never had the ball to start with. Having said that we do look better with three in the middle rather than 2. Schlupp played ok but clearly lacks the physical attributes needed at the minute. That is something which I'm sure with come with experience. Nugent was ok but is still prone to some poor decisions. Dyer was unbelievably poor, actually he was believably poor. Howard was Howard, foul, offside, foul, foul, whinge, red. I know Beckford is not particularly popular on here but he played with some 'intelligence' (again I know some feel he has no footballing brain), he also directed the supporters applause towards Pearson at the end of the match.
z-layrex Posted 2 January 2012 Posted 2 January 2012 Palace fans are usually pretty modest, i'm surprised by their sour reaction. They certainly did not deserve to win. At the beginning of the season they would have all been more than happy with a stable mid table season, now they think they should be in the playoffs.

The fact that in their absence, we won an away league game today for only the second time in nearly five months, is more evidence to back that case. So what unavailability mean then? He's already mentioned injuries and nobody was suspended. The fact I said "is it just me" is posing the question am I reading too much in to it. I also said "could", so I'm not stating it as a fact. The stuff you have said has gone way beyond they are just holding us back. You've absolutely slated Wellens and painted him out to be some manipulative figure controlling everyone and everything. You've presented these things as fact. No maybe, no could... Just he did and he has!
ozleicester Posted 2 January 2012 Posted 2 January 2012 A great result, at this stage dont really care how we got the 3, just glad we did. For those who are blathering on about NP's team and continuing to heap sh1t on SGE's signings, perhaps we should look at todays winning side and list the NP signings.... 1 Schmeichel...............nope 05 Mills........................nope 06 Bamba yellow card. nope 30 Kennedy.................. nope 33 Tunchev (Dyer 46)... NP 34 Moore......................nope 10 King......................... nope 22 Abe..........................nope 23 Danns...................... nope 27 Schlupp (Beckford 76). nope 35 Nugent....................... nope Top effort Nige!
ozleicester Posted 2 January 2012 Posted 2 January 2012 Kennedy was a Pearson signing. Apologies... didnt know that

Poakey Posted 2 January 2012 Posted 2 January 2012 How loud we're our fans? 2000 pretty impressive numbers.
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 2 January 2012 Posted 2 January 2012 Our away support is always quite impressive
ozleicester Posted 2 January 2012 Posted 2 January 2012 Ha ha Kennedy was NP. Top research oz as above..apologies, no research just personal memory/knowledge..missed the kennedy signing...so ok, 2 out of 11 players were Pearson signings. Im not complaining.. just trying to make the point.
Dan Posted 3 January 2012 Posted 3 January 2012 Was it really 2,000? That's a sensational number IMO. Only Leeds/West Ham in this league would've even got near that taking everything into consideration. Noisewise? Shite, IMO. Standing was good but the noise itself was a letdown for me.

Dan Posted 3 January 2012 Posted 3 January 2012 Only 1,255 according to the OS. That's still a good effort. Would Forest, Derby, Southampton etc... have took that if they were doing shit, had a real iffy journey, 1pm, January 2nd at £30? Would they fvck.
Maybes Posted 3 January 2012 Posted 3 January 2012 What a shite game of football. Both teams were dire, us probably more so. Very happy with the 3 points mind even if we had to endure long spells of sitting behind the ball. In terms of support - vocally - one of the worst LCFC away ends I've been in. Numbers wise it was decent and 95% stood. Just glad I don't go for the football as otherwise I wouldn't go back!
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 3 January 2012 Posted 3 January 2012 Couldn't give a piss flaps care about anything other than the 3 points.
OzFox Posted 3 January 2012 Posted 3 January 2012 Delighted after that, absolutely chuffed. Defensively I think we were very good, both first half and second. Mills and Bamba won us the game, if they weren't on top form then we would've lost that. Mills inparticular was superb, won the majority of his headers, was reliable with his clearances and most importantly, gave Moore some much needed support for the duration of the match. I'm delighted for Moore, I saw him at Kettering pre-season and he wasn't great, and as a result wasn't expecting him to be as good as he was today. Thought he was solid on the ball, decent in the air and got his tackles in when needed. Bit of naivety and inexperience where he went to charge down the player for their goal, leaving his man unmarked. Minor blip though on what was overall a good debut. Kennedy on the other flank was very, very good, however Konchesky is far better and should be in the team when fit. However, I'm glad he's at the club and am more than happy for him to be back-up to Konchesky. In midfield we were better than we have been but still not great, especially the second half. We had the usual problems in the second half, no strength or creativity which is why 4 across the midfield away from home isn't working. Luckily it didn't cost us today. Danns had his best game in a blue shirt, put himself about and finished brilliantly for the first goal. (Fantastic assist by their GK, by the way. Really top notch stuff.) King was decent, not great, as was Abe. Dyer was rubbish when he came on. Refused to run at his man, which is a bit of an issue for him as that's the only reason he's on the pitch. Pleased for Schlupp and Nugent today, thought they both did well. Schlupp was better than he was two days ago, but still doesn't link up with his partner. Time and again Nugent was talking to him, telling him where he should be and trying to encourage him. This isn't a bad thing though, Schlupp seems to be a fine finisher with bags of pace, he just needs more experience and an older head to help him learn the game. God knows what happens with Howard, didn't see a thing myself. He'd failed to hold the ball up twice since he'd been on, and that just topped it off. Beckford's effort is shocking. In the later stages of the game, what we need there is someone to just put pressure on the defence, not give them time and in general just ran around a lot being a nuisance. Beckford doesn't do that, and it's so frustrating. Bring him on and the defender's have all the time in the world. Overall, very happy with how it went. The formation in the first half worked well but we had the usual problems with the midfield in the second half, although it worked slightly better today. The result was the priority today, and we got it. Now bring on Forest! Beckford made two chances for himself in fifteen minutes with pace and movement. That's something Schlupp and Nugent had failed to do in the previous 75. I thought the Palace defenders looked distinctly uncomfortable with Beckford on the pitch. Ditto for Portsmouth's.
Sceagle Posted 3 January 2012 Posted 3 January 2012 Hi, Palace fan in peace here. I've just been spying on this topic and I would just like to say that both of our starting centre backs were ill yesterday and we had our 2nd keeper in goal, who by the way, gifted you the first goal by kicking the ball into one of our players. Therefore I think our fans are justified in feeling we should have won today. Sadly for us however, we seem to do everything but score. Apart from his outburst in the 2nd half, which should have been more than a yellow considering his language was as bad as Howard's apparently was, was your key player today. He won pretty much everything and scored a goal. Also, fair play to Abe for stopping a shot with his face. I feel bad for coming on here to moan and you will probably tell me where to go, but good luck for the rest of the season! Good turn out by your fans today which was good to see too
