Jimmy Posted 7 February 2012 Posted 7 February 2012 http://www.lcfc.com/page/LatestNews/0,,10274~2603172,00.html Young striker Tom Hopper continued to add to his growing reputation on Tuesday with a first-half hat-trick in City's 3-0 reserve win over Chesterfield at Belvoir Drive. The 18-year-old forward, who made his first team debut in the recent FA Cup win over Swindon, was in outstanding form against a strong Spireites side, settling the contest with three clinical finishes before the interval. A stellar performer at both youth and reserve level this season, the Lincolnshire youngster looks to have a big future ahead of him at King Power Stadium and appeared totally at-ease against first team regulars for the League 1 Club, whose absence of a weekend fixture led them to field a strong starting eleven. But they were soundly beaten by a City side that, along with the excellent Hopper, included the likes of Franck Moussa, Liam Moore, Tom Parkes and Elliott Chamberlain in what proved a useful run-out for several of the Club's young professionals. Tom Parkes competes with Chestefield's Dean Morgan. Hopper was on target as early as the fifth minute when he rose highest to head home Oliver Norburn's left-wing corner, before doubling his total with another simple header on the half-hour. He completed his treble six minutes before the break when he provided a composed finish to Chamberlain's unselfish pass. Development coach Steve Beaglehole, who took the side this afternoon, said: "It was the near-perfect performance for me - the lads played very well, we scored three goals and we kept a clean sheet so I'm delighted with them. Steve Beaglehole was delighted with the squad's display. "We passed the ball well, showed a lot of discipline without the ball and the three goals from young Tom were very pleasing. "To play as well as he did against players with a lot of Football League experience shows his potential and I've seen things from him today that I didn't see only two weeks ago. He is improving all the time." hope to see more of this lad in the 1st team mix, good to see Moussa playing as well as we are short of midfield options
ajthefox Posted 7 February 2012 Posted 7 February 2012 Good lad, looks like chesterfield is a right team of fannys though if their skipper wears a snood and those gloves
Narborough_fox Posted 7 February 2012 Posted 7 February 2012 Snood's are banned at all level of competition. We need to report FIFA about the Chesterfield player wearing one...
Libertine Dream Posted 7 February 2012 Posted 7 February 2012 A great example of why 5 substitutes is pathetic. He won't get the chances on the bench that he needs as there isn't room. The Football League are doing a great job of stopping youth development at their clubs and allowing the big clubs to produce the stars. The FA, The Football League, The PFA, Referees can all just piss off.
EnderbyFox Posted 7 February 2012 Posted 7 February 2012 I'd have him on the bench over Howard. I'd rather he had a spot on the bench than Howard EDIT : sounded too sexual
Milton Keynes Fox Posted 7 February 2012 Posted 7 February 2012 Looked alright against swindon, hopefully pearson calls him up

On Goals on Sunday he said it should be 7 subs, but two of those places have to go to academy players under a certain age. This way it doesn't disadvantage any team and give youth a chance.

Good idea, any point suggesting to FA?

Definitely should be implemented
Jimothy Posted 7 February 2012 Posted 7 February 2012 Good idea, any point suggesting to FA? Probably not, it's far to sensible for the FA to implement.
Jimmy Posted 7 February 2012 Author Posted 7 February 2012 its a Football League (well league 1 & 2 chairmen) issue not F.A. hence why F.A. Cup has 7 subs
StanSP Posted 7 February 2012 Posted 7 February 2012 Glad you spelt his name right. It's annoying me seeing 'Hooper'.
Dan Posted 7 February 2012 Posted 7 February 2012 Fair play. I think people got too carried away with him against Swindon, he actually did pretty little, don't get me wrong he wasn't shit but he was hardly outstanding either, but that's pretty encouraging and I'm only going to wish him the best, looks like we're finally going to start reaping the rewards for the millions we've invested into our youth.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 7 February 2012 Posted 7 February 2012 I'd have him on the bench over Howard. I'd rather he had a spot on the bench than Howard EDIT : sounded too sexual Freudian slip I reckon.

Salieri Posted 7 February 2012 Posted 7 February 2012 it was the clubs that decided to go 5 subs... we could have dismissed the idea. We probably did but found ourselves in the minority.

He was only on 10 mins. How much involvement can you expect in that time, for a young rookie in his first appearance who needs to get into the flow of the game first?

How much involvement can you expect in that time, for a young rookie in his first appearance who needs to get into the flow of the game first? and in that time he came fairly close to scoring and should of had an assist with his pass to Gally which he should of buried
Collymore Posted 7 February 2012 Posted 7 February 2012 I only read Tharcian's posts on youth, hurry up please
Libertine Dream Posted 7 February 2012 Posted 7 February 2012 it was the clubs that decided to go 5 subs... we could have dismissed the idea. Sven said at the time we voted against it. Kammys idea is a great one though.
Thracian Posted 8 February 2012 Posted 8 February 2012 I only read Tharcian's posts on youth, hurry up please He's an outstanding prospect...as natural a goalscorer as i've seen emerge from the youth ranks and a lad who should continue to make progress under Beaglehole's guidance because The Beagle seems the only senior coach at our club who regularly sets up his team to attack consistently and in numbers. He seems to get his teams moving forwards and backwards as one and, as such, Hopper will surely get the chances on which he can thrive. It sounds as if the lad's willing to learn too. He's a presence in the team, no question, and a guy with the ability to score a wide range of goals.
