It could be one of the best seasons in the club's history - Wellens

As in all walks of life, if we happen to go up this season some of the rubbish we have played will soon be forgotten and Pearson will be hailed as the man who took over from Sven and 'turned it around'.

But if we do it will be down to two main factors IMO.

Firstly, the average standard of the division is and has been poor.

Secondly, Drinkwater and Marshall are two very good signings.

Maybe he's missed a large chunk of our history but "one of our best seasons ever"? In a season where we've managed back to back wins just twice in what is one of the most pi$$ poor leagues in terms of quality for years, it wouldn't even make my top ten of the past twenty seasons. I go along with the (Babylon & Marbella Dave) argument that if we get in the final shake up it's because of the poor form of other nothing to do with us. That's going from the perspective that in any other season we'd already be adrift and we've had no form at all. Yes, you can say you finish where you deserve to be but if we finish top 6 do we HONESTLY think we deserve it?

Saw Southampton down here and on the telly about three or four times and they're really nothing special either. IF we make the play offs I really don't fear any of the teams in there because they're all at the same inconsistent standard right now.

You could argue that the league as a whole is stronger and so therefore no one has managed to beat the stronger sides consistently. Eitherway you look at it, we have accumulated enough points to be in with a shout.

This therefore means there is reason to believe and be excited for the run in. Some people on here are just determined to put a downer on everything! Good on ya Richie for showing that the squad believe.

Lighten up guys!

Absolutely, no arguments there......

The table does not lie but it is also suggests that the points requirement for a playoff place will be lower than usual. This suggests to me that the playoff chasing sides are, perhaps, less strong than in recent years, the very point I have been making.

Perhaps it could mean that the playoff chasing sides have been caught in ability this season compared to other seasons

Don't get me wrong, it's great to be still in with a shout but it shouldn't hide the fact we're not anywhere near the quality side we should be with the money we've invested. I'll be singing as loud as anyone if we beat Millwall but if Wellens & co had pulled their fingers out earlier the points would already be on the board.

Less strong relative to the rest of the league to the tune of about two points. Could just as easily mean the rest of the league is (ever so slightly) stronger than usual. I don't think we'll make the play-offs, but the idea that if we do make the play-offs we won't have deserved it is garbage.

Edit: I see this point has been covered.

The quality of this league is terrible. To think that we'd be already comfortably in the playoffs with one or two wins here or there taking into account only two back to back wins done twice all season. It really shows how poor the league is.

No it doesn't. All it could show is how close the league is in terms of ability. There is no possible way of telling the quality of the teams in the league based on the overall distribution of points.

Everybody wanks over the Premiership saying how strong that is and that its the best league in the world. Teams from the championship have held their own in the prem this season, as have we too against Norwich. So is it really that poor in the championship? I dont think so.

We haven't won three games in a row, but how many have we lost in a row? We're consisteny inconsistentwe seems to have acquired us enough points to be where we are.

Would you prefer us to go on a 6 game winning streak to then lose 6 straight after?

I think wellens is wrong to a point. It wouldn't be our best season ever, just the most exciting. I don't think you can argue with that

One of the best? nope, most exciting? erm, nope.

It is one of the most frustrating which could either end in more frustration or on a high but i am no longer getting my hopes up.

What?

So you're saying that there's no way of telling the quality between Doncaster at the bottom and Southampton at the top based on the points both have gained over the course of the season?

Ability, quality, call it what you will, bottom line is both are poor to mediocre at best in this league.

The reason Reading are top is not because they have better players than us, it's because they have the ability to close out the opposition and play the team game extremely well. They're very effective at this and are extremely good at ruining the game.

Next season I will be very surprised if at least 2 of the promoted teams stay up from this league. Can't see it happening.

That's not even close to what i'm saying. Infact you're so far off I can't even be bothered to explain.

Richie Wellens believes Leicester City's season could still be one of the best in the club's history.

City have endured a frustrating campaign and Wellens admits he thought their play-off challenge was over following the defeat at Peterborough two weeks ago.

But after back-to-back victories against Doncaster Rovers and Ipswich Town during the Easter period, Wellens believes City still have a chance of promotion.

The City captain said if they can pull it off – and he believes they will need to win three of their final four games, starting tomorrow at Millwall – all the disappointments of the campaign will be forgotten.

"It could still be possibly one of the best seasons every player has ever experienced," he said.

"I know there have been a lot of disappointing results, but we have four games to turn it around and it could be one of the best seasons in the club's history if we get promoted at Wembley.

"It looked all over after the defeat at Peterborough. We knew we had to win six games after that game and we have won the first two.

"We need to win at least three more now."

Wellens revealed the players had a frank exchange of views in the dressing room after the Posh defeat, and he admits it should have happened sooner.

"After the Peterborough game, we came in and we were all disappointed," he said.

"We had a chat after the game about trying to demand more from each other and organise more, moan at more people if you like, from every player on the pitch.

"The manager had his say but then he went quiet and we had a chat among ourselves. It was too easy."

He added: "We should be going to Peterborough and if we don't score then fine, we take the point, but we shouldn't be losing.

"After that chat, we have had two more games and we have won them both.

"It is a pity it didn't happen 40 games ago.

"We needed a wake-up call to kick us into gear.

"It has gone well for us the last two games since then."

Priceless!
