davieG Posted 13 April 2012 Posted 13 April 2012 Merc Richie Wellens believes Leicester City's season could still be one of the best in the club's history. City have endured a frustrating campaign and Wellens admits he thought their play-off challenge was over following the defeat at Peterborough two weeks ago. But after back-to-back victories against Doncaster Rovers and Ipswich Town during the Easter period, Wellens believes City still have a chance of promotion. The City captain said if they can pull it off – and he believes they will need to win three of their final four games, starting tomorrow at Millwall – all the disappointments of the campaign will be forgotten. "It could still be possibly one of the best seasons every player has ever experienced," he said. "I know there have been a lot of disappointing results, but we have four games to turn it around and it could be one of the best seasons in the club's history if we get promoted at Wembley. "It looked all over after the defeat at Peterborough. We knew we had to win six games after that game and we have won the first two. "We need to win at least three more now." Wellens revealed the players had a frank exchange of views in the dressing room after the Posh defeat, and he admits it should have happened sooner. "After the Peterborough game, we came in and we were all disappointed," he said. "We had a chat after the game about trying to demand more from each other and organise more, moan at more people if you like, from every player on the pitch. "The manager had his say but then he went quiet and we had a chat among ourselves. It was too easy." He added: "We should be going to Peterborough and if we don't score then fine, we take the point, but we shouldn't be losing. "After that chat, we have had two more games and we have won them both. "It is a pity it didn't happen 40 games ago. "We needed a wake-up call to kick us into gear. "It has gone well for us the last two games since then."
MattyFromLE Posted 13 April 2012 Posted 13 April 2012 Fair enough, now put those words into action, Richie!
cc_star Posted 13 April 2012 Posted 13 April 2012 All the disappointments of tbe campaign will be forgotten... However, fail to win at least 3 out the 4 & they won't be. Although most sane people realised long ago weve got to much to do from the lacklustre start & middle of the campaign, although form since turn of the year has given us a chance.
davieG Posted 13 April 2012 Author Posted 13 April 2012 Well it might be for anyone who started supporting in the post MON era but something extraordinary would need to happen for me and promotion wouldn't be enough for it to be in my best list.

It is the crap form of the clubs around us that have left us in with a chance, however faint. Our form may have improved this year, but only in relation to our dreadful play in November and December, in recent weeks, even a bare handful of points from the likes of Barnsley, Bristol, Reading and Peterboro' would put us comfortably in the playoffs........ Looking forward to Ritchie's next interview (when we miss out on a playoff spot) very much, you know, the one where he apologises for not starting to try some 40 games ago!
roachmachine Posted 13 April 2012 Posted 13 April 2012 Too little too late i'm afraid from our captain fantastic (not) pretty much like it has been all season
Bayfox Posted 13 April 2012 Posted 13 April 2012 I admire his honesty in saying they had a frank chat and maybe they should have done it a long while ago. But a professional and captain, why didn't it happen a while ago? they must know how poor they have been at times this season. And how bad does that run in dec look now, just a couple of results in that time would have seen us at least sat in a comfortable play-off spot ourselves. mind you i tend to agree with forgetting what has gone before, having been to the new wembley for the fa trophy final a few years, if i get to see my club promoted there, i may well just erase the rest of the season from my memory, afterall when MON did it, I can remember the wins at palace and the semi at stoke and the final but i can't remember the results from the awful start he had, just that is was awful.
JIMMYWILLIS Posted 13 April 2012 Posted 13 April 2012 These idiots should do more talking on the pitch instead of the rubbish they spout in the papers. What a tool he is
Babylon Posted 13 April 2012 Posted 13 April 2012 It is the crap form of the clubs around us that have left us in with a chance, however faint. If we won the league would you say it was the shit form of the other 23 teams that let us win the league? It's a marathon and not a sprint as the old saying goes, we all play the same teams the same number of times. If anything we're the most consistent, we're consistently inconsistent. Those around us have had big upturns and massive downturns in form, where as we've plodded along winning one, drawing one, losing one, winning one etc.
Out Foxed Posted 13 April 2012 Posted 13 April 2012 these people really talk some shite haha. u needed a wake up call in december (and even earlier than that)

If we won the league we would have to do do better than Southampton and Reading, decent teams in my view........ The rest are pretty much dross and we are just one of them, generally poor inconsistent teams who can't really hold a run together. I think, the 2 top sides aside, the Championship is very poor quality this year....

I don't think necessarily it is poor quality more consistency imo we have a better team than Southampton, but collectively we haven't performed to those levels you could argue that consistency comes about when players get used to each other and the style of play and in Southampton's and Reading's case their teams are of similar mould to last year whereas ours wasn't.

I think, the 2 top sides aside, the Championship is very poor quality this year.... We comfortably beat Southampton twice and Reading were in the relegation zone after 10 games of the season. Just shows what we always knew about the championship, that anyone can beat anyone. Its all about getting on a role and Southampton had that during the christmas period and Reading have timed theres to perfection. Momentum is the most important factor during this run in and although we have left it 5 games too late, we have the best form of anyone in and around the play offs so I think it would be hasty to write us off just yet.

Cardiff looked shocking at ours. West Ham have looked poor recently. Reading were average earlier in the season. It's a bog-standard league.

Now that is nonsense, if we've won enough points to be there come the end of the season that's where we deserve to be.
dave the caveman Posted 13 April 2012 Posted 13 April 2012 Perfectly setup for a 1 - 0 defeat tomorrow now. Intact I think I might nip down the bookies.
crisp packet Posted 13 April 2012 Posted 13 April 2012 It's a rally cry !!! (yes another one granted) FFS We have 4/7 games to turn this awful stop, start season around. Support the lads for each game, MORE than ever!!As we have a one game season , as lose one and season OVER !! PROMOTION is the carrot ....always has always was ..... WE WE CAN DO THIS?!?!

Simmo86 Posted 13 April 2012 Posted 13 April 2012 Bit dismayed that he thinks we only need to win 3 out of 4! 4 out of 4 please Rich Tea
MrSpaM Posted 13 April 2012 Posted 13 April 2012 I dont think winning 3 out of the 4 would get us anywhere, we need to win all 4!
