Ant out of Ant'n'Dec Posted 6 April 2013 Posted 6 April 2013 All return safe and sound. Which no doubt upsets a lot of those who are passionate about animal rights for one day a year and were looking forward to having something to be angry about.
Kitchandro Posted 6 April 2013 Posted 6 April 2013 And then get put down? No. They get switched to hurdles or retired or something. Where does this myth come from that horses are just put down if they're shit? That's certainly not the case for anyone reputable in the sport.

Matt Posted 6 April 2013 Posted 6 April 2013 Same time next year everyone? Well it's a year and a week to be precise.

I'm a one-man band, but the big abattoirs must be busy Don't believe everything you read oz. Maybe that's your problem, you post a lot of bollocks articles and believe everthing. I mean, the welfare manager would come up with a bullshit statistic that you just take his word on, wouldn't he? And animal aid are famous for their bullshit and insane, poorly thought out protests. They are not reputable sources, if you didn't know. I have followed jump racing since I was very young and I of all the horses I have heard of, I have never once heard of one being put down after retirement, unless it was because of injury or disease (two things that are very common for horses whether they are racing or not). Like I said, no reputable owners or trainers would do such things.
Charl91 Posted 6 April 2013 Posted 6 April 2013 Thousands of people die from cancer every year, but only 350 die of cot death, so we shouldnt bother about sorting out cot death. It's not nearly the same though, is it? About 400 horses are raced to death a year (from an anti-racing website, so probably an exaggerated figure). Compare that to the millions of animals that are kept in terrible conditions every day.

About 400 horses are raced to death a year (from an anti-racing website, so probably an exaggerated figure). Compare that to the millions of animals that are kept in terrible conditions every day. I agree the number of animals being cruely treated is completely unnaceptable and horrific, and that is why we should do what we can to stop ANY cruelty. For anyone who supports horse racing, can i ask (and this is not meant to be facetious) do you support Dog or cock fighting.... if so/if not... why?
BoneDog Posted 7 April 2013 Posted 7 April 2013 I'm not a fan of dog or cock fighting. Not my kind of 'sports'. Kangaroo boxing however I find quite fascinating...
Kitchandro Posted 7 April 2013 Posted 7 April 2013 so if you havent actually heard of it.. it doesnt happen? Are all Trainers reputable? No, what's your point? A small percentage (not 70%) of poor nobodies doing it (when the horse is probably knackered anway) doesn't support our anti-horse racing agenda. In fact it supports the idea that without racing, most of these horses would be a lot worse off. That's one of my main points, if not for racing, what happens to these horses? People can't afford them, most of them probably wouldn't be bred, and a lot of the ones that are might be eaten instead of loved. So, to put it bluntly, your narrow minded view is anti-horses.
Manwell Pablo Posted 7 April 2013 Posted 7 April 2013 Well I won £7 on the national. Which I'm probably going to spend on a Steak and a pack of sausages.
Matt Posted 7 April 2013 Posted 7 April 2013 Well I won £7 on the national. Which I'm probably going to spend on a Steak and a pack of sausages. You evil bastard, A cow had to die for your enjoyment of Steak.
AoWW Posted 8 April 2013 Posted 8 April 2013 I did quite nicely out of this year's National. I'm eyeing up leather shoes and bags.
Tempwan Yierban Posted 8 April 2013 Posted 8 April 2013 If we banned every sport which had involved the death of a spectator/participant, there wouldn't be any left. Besides, I like horseracing.
AoWW Posted 8 April 2013 Posted 8 April 2013 If we banned every sport which had involved the death of a spectator/participant, there wouldn't be any left. Besides, I like horseracing. Bowls - has anyone ever died in relation to bowls?
Tempwan Yierban Posted 8 April 2013 Posted 8 April 2013 Bowls - has anyone ever died in relation to bowls? Bowl cancer?
ozleicester Posted 16 April 2013 Posted 16 April 2013 If we banned every sport which had involved the death of a spectator/participant, there wouldn't be any left. Besides, I like horseracing. As long as it humans choosing to die.. ive no problem with that. Bowls - has anyone ever died in relation to bowls? Boredom?
James. Posted 16 April 2013 Posted 16 April 2013 Bowls - has anyone ever died in relation to bowls? Funny you should use that example as bowls actually has one of the highest participant death rates of any sport.

Carl the Llama Posted 16 April 2013 Posted 16 April 2013 I'm not a fan of dog or cock fighting. Not my kind of 'sports'. Kangaroo boxing however I find quite fascinating... I'd love to be Australian. "Look at that: 2 Kangas fighting each-other. On with the golf". I wouldn't be able to be so blasé, more likely I'd lose my shit and stop everything I'm doing to watch.
