Yep and so called Animal Activists.....Let's Ban Horse racing and send all the race horse around the world to the knackery. I honestly think some people love to protest and complain just for the sake of it.

Just some are worth "risking" more than others? I go to lots of Point to Point meetings and they often attract large crowds, well into the thousands. Alot of people don't gamble. They go to watch the racing. And they are not all middle class/upper class. As to Horse Racing existing for gambling. Complete and utter bull shit. Dubai. Gambling is banned and yet horse racing is popular. Ban horse racing. Then there will be calls to ban fishing. Calls to ban shooting. So **** you (and all of those who have said horse racing be banned). I'm not having my hobbies ruined by a bunch of idiots who just jump on the bandwagon. You can all do me a favour and enter yourself into the Darwin Awards. Just because lots of people think its a good thing, doesnt mean it is (See the EDL for example). Yes, i would ban fishing and shooting... sorry that your "hobbies" that invlove murder and torture would be illeagal, but its all part of evolution. I understand horse racing very well, but the fact remains it isnt a sport, it involves the abuse of animals for human entertainment and should be stopped. It wont kill of the breed (and I admit to a lack of knowledge here) but im not sure that the "thoroughbred" is actually a breed, or is it more a genetic and breeding mutant, nevertheless the breed would not be wiped out, we dont race pandas and we are keeping them alive. Its not their instinct to run and jump with 50kgs of lead and little humans on them, nor to be whipped and kicked, nor to be forced to run faster than is their natural state nor jump over fences that are too high on ground that is too hard. and, in their natural state, THEY choose when to run and jump.

Just make me laugh how they come out every year after the national yet say nothing the other 11months.

I said i have an understanding of racing, i certainly dont consider myself an expert. however, I understand the concept of "steering" with the whip, its funny that these horses only seem to need to be "steered" in the last 300 metres??. in regard to the self awareness if the horse in the video has it...and you are suggesting that it and others horses do, does it not concern you somewhat, that we enslave these magnificent creatures and and kill them for our pleasure?

Matt Hampson was paralysed playing Rugby, are there calls for that to be banned? If the horses didn't want to jump the fences, then they wouldn't. Simple as that.

Are you in the 1920's? Do it, get a stable on a course, open the door and see what happens, I'll give you 90 seconds before it's leaping over a fence. In fact for horses who aren't capable chasers it could be even more dangerous as they would stray off the hurdling courses and onto the fences, break their leg and sit there for hours dying, what a wonderful way to treat them that would be. Go to 1.26 in the video, have a guess what he wants to do after a drink, look not even a man and a stick.

There are a lot of people in this country who enjoy Horse Racing. There is a minority of people in this country who support the EDL. So that part of your argument stands very well. As to evolution, well lets try and not go off topic but we eat meat. We have evolved to become the dominant species and society was built around hunting/farming etc. I shoot and I fish because I like to eat meat and fish. You are a vegetarian, and I am not. You cannot tell me what I can and can't eat. Now as many other people have noticed. Those who disagree with Horse Racing appear to have no knowledge of it (for example whips are made of FOAM and leave no mark on the horse, and jockeys cannot raise their arms above their shoulders when using the whip, and strict rules and regulations are in place to ensure whips are correctly used).
