Rangers face liquidation

The tax-man cometh....

Very little sympathy. Shouldn't have gone and robbed people blind, driving themselves into this, for the sake of success.

Hopefully now clubs might just look and go "hold on a second, we're going overboard with this spending". They should have with Luton, Portsmouth et al, but hopefully with a team that are (or rather were) kinda big, people might actually pay attention.

I don't particularly like Rangers

But they've had a reputation for many years, of being one of the best clubs in the World

Feel the most for the fans, because they haven't done much wrong but demand success, now they will lose what their club is

Will there be any political implications from this?

Because most people know what the Glasgow rivalry is really all about

Lets be clear - Rangers FC continue, the only question is whether they play in the SPL next season or have to start in Div3.

All players contracts are transferred to the NewCo by law, there wont be any free agents.

The benefit of this is that under Liquidaion the HMRC can go after the cretins who put the club in this position, becasue clearly they have been insolvent for years and people need to go to jail for that.

If people think that Rangers should be punished because they had an unfair financial advantage during the '9 in a row' years, remember that they spent a lot of that financial advantage on Tore Andre Flo, Seb Rozental, Daniel Prodan et al.

If you think City has singed some dross over the years, you should look up Rangers' dealings since about 1995.

Really? I would have thought that the players have the option to walk away if they disagree with being transferred.

So Rangers FC are legally dead and the new company, called The Rangers FC, is their successor.

The question is what happens now? Will The Rangers be playing in the SPL next season or start from the bottom and work their way up? Neither is without precedent in European football. Borussia Dortmund fell to the very brink of bankruptcy five years ago after years of steady decline, but the sale of the naming rights to the Westfalenstadion and a timely upturn in fortunes saw them retain their Bundesliga status.

Fiorentina were not so lucky. Relegated from Serie A with crippling debts in 2002, they were refused a place in Serie B for the following season and the reconstructed club were forced to compete in the Italian fourth tier. As was expected by pretty much everyone, Fiorentina walked that league with ease thanks to the club's unrivalled ability to attract good players to that division and through a fanbase that dwarfed anything in the bowels of Italian football. By 2005, they were back in Serie A.

Three years after their return to Serie A, Fiorentina made the UEFA Cup semi-final where they were promptly knocked out on penalties by......

Yeah, you guessed it. Rangers.

Like that

On Dortmund's plight did you know Bayern Munich actually gave them a loan as well when they were on the verge of going bust? Summed up German football that for me, wonder how many clubs over here would do something similar for a rival.

Perhaps you ought to ask Celtic and see what happens...

Anyway, from what I understand, the new club will be able to play in the SPL next season if they're voted in by the other clubs (not sure on the specifics of the voting but I think it's a 2/3rd's of the vote kinda thing). I can't see them winning that, but I'm not sure if Dunfermline stay up or whether Dundee come up as well.

Bear in mind the financial benefit that the smaller clubs would get per season on Rangers visit(s). Huge draw. Those that hover around mid-table would be more likely to vote positive, if anything, surely?

Probably, but as Corky said, they need 8 votes from 12 to be re-admitted. Aberdeen & Dundee aren't that keen on Rangers, Motherwell fan's are against the re-admittance as well. Throw in Celtic & all it takes is one club abstaining or saying no and the new club will be starting right down in Division 3.

If it were a straight 51%:49% sort of vote, I'd give Rangers a fair shout of getting back in, but where if 5 clubs don't vote in favour they've no hope? Can't see it.

The fans can think what they like, it's these club's board's decision when push comes to shove isn't it?

Dunfermline are my "other " club. Stick to the rules, send Rangers down, the money will help the lower leagues, they will be back up soon.

Inverness are reportedly going to consult their fans too.

What do you think he'll say?

You'd have thought that money would overcome fan's opinion though, surely?

Hibs are my boys in Jocksville anyway, even if they are gasho nowadays.

I can't imagine Hearts are too keen. Rangers owe them £800,000 as remaining balance from the signing of Lee Wallace last Summer. I don't know if the football creditor first rule applies in Scotland but imagine that they must be debating as to how they vote.

Because Rangers have an unblemished and impeccable record of looking after children in their care...

You know obsession with your rivals has reached unhealthy levels when you know more about their history than that of your own club.

Until and unless the huns (whatever name they go by) can match this achievement, they will always be in Celtic's shadow.

It doesn't. Several clubs, in Scotland and elsewhere lose out as a result of the debts being written off.

However they can apply to FIFA for a ban on signings to be imposed.

Rapid Vienna (still owed nearly £2m from the Nikica Jelavic deal) have indicated their intentions to do exactly that.

Celtic need Rangers, the SPL needs them both. The fan forums can say what they like and everyone can point and lick their lips at the prospect of Rangers going to the third teir, but at the end of the day, the decisions will be made in boardrooms, not terraces. As much as Celtic and Rangers hate each other, they are necessary to each other, and their rivalry is key to the league as a whole.

Contrary to a few posts on here, I would be surprised if they voted out. If they are, its the beginning of the end for the SPL, and Sky have already warned that they may not renew their contract.

Money talks.
