The ditch were p1ss poor. I dont wanna take anything away for ze Germans as they were fluent and direct. But good god, holland look bad. Roben looks disinterested and the rest poor, only really sneider who takes any credit. Shame.

Sweet. Great game, Germany are the best team in this, by a distance based on performances so far. They were brilliant tonight. Super solid in defence, so, so clinical and when the going got tough, they wasted a full 20 minutes just knocking it around. Gets the job done.

Someone needs to tell Robben he's not as good as he thinks he is.

And tell him that cutting inside and shooting when he's on the right wing is not beneficial or effective anymore. It's so predictable and annoying when there's players in better positions and he's being the selfish **** he is and ballooning the chance.

Not more bloody fish puns

Group B is turning out pretty well, Holland showed a spark that they hadn't shown against Denmark, Germany aren't complete and of course both Portugal and Denmark have shown a level of quality; comes down to the last game

Germany really are very good, I reckon they're going to win it unfortunately.

But dear me, the Dutch look shocking. They are so negative on the ball and generally clueless going forward. Even when they got back to 2-1 down they barely threatened at all. Such a lack of urgency when losing from a supposed top side was very surprising.

How about the 'English' Cricket & Rugby teams eh?

But yeah, there's something wrong about it

Also, hope the Germans wrap this up then give Gotze, Schurle and Reus a go against Denmark.

Even that prospect is really scary, but can't see Löw doing that. If they lose against us, they could still go out. He will want to 'make sure they get something' before giving a run out to those guys.

Of the team selected for the Euros, only Podolski and Klose weren't born in Germany. Little 'new' controversy here then...

Yep, I was about to post that basically. That picture's not really very funny at all, it's the same sort of nasty sentiment they have in France where their own fans snarl about the black and North African players "aren't French."

Pretty tragic really.

I can't see them not going through, the odds are so remote, and in such a short and fast paced tournament you've got to take the opportunity to freshen things up, surely? I'm not saying he'll change everything or even that the "youngsters" (young-er-sters?) will start but surely they've got to get a run out?

Schmelzer at very least must be coming in for Boateng, Lahm to shift over to RB?

The way I'm looking at it, Netherlands need to beat Portugal by 3 goals and hope Denmark lose??????????

Yep.

If someone can put a boot up the Dutch backside, properly motivate them, play both their strikers at once, put VDV on instead of one of their defensive midfielders then MAYBE it'll be a good game.

That's harsh on Willems and Sneijder. As nearly every team, the Netherlands don't have many left-backs. Pieters was earmarked but got injured. Van der Wiel has been worse than Jetro I think. And Sneijder was by FAR the best player on the pitch against Denmark. He made so many through balls, hardly lost the ball or misplaced a pass. He was brilliant. If the Dutch could actually finish, we wouldn't be having this discussion at all.

Hoping the Germans can hold on and that the Dutch show up against Portugal. A draw is the best we can possibly hope for against this German machine...

Willems (only 18 years old, sigh) was a total disaster yesterday, but if it's true about their injury woes and him being the only decent left-back for the Dutch, then alright. His lack of international experience clearly showed, I wish they could've gone for someone with more caps under his belt (what happened to Emanuelson?), but alas...

The Dutch midfield was a real disappointment, hardly ever created anything worthwile, couldn't connect with their strikeforce, left isolated.

That's why I thought Sneijder, with all his class, rarely showed up. Van Bommel is getting past it, too slow nowadays and De Jong isn't really a creative lol midfielder...

In FM, I would do as you suggest and give the youngsters a run out :P But apart from Schmelzer and (possibly) Schürrle coming into the starting lineup, and maybe Klose in for Gomez, I don't think he'll want to change around too much with the starting line-up. Götze and Reus could well be second-half replacements though, for the reasons you state.

How do you work that out? If the Dutch win by two against Portugal and Denmark lose by one, the Dutch would go through on GD. If the Dutch only win by one and the Danes lose by one, the Dutch will go out because either the Danes (if it's a low scoring Dutch game) or the Portuguese (if it's a high scoring Dutch game) will have scored more goals in the games between the involved teams.

Van Maarwijk has deemed Willems to be better than Emanuelson it seems, but that was obviously a controversial choice. Vurnon Anita could also play left back, but both he and Urby are quite prone to errors.

And their midfield might've been disappointing against the Germans, but they created a heap of chances against the Danes. It was obviously ill-judged to play with two holding midfielders against the Danes, one would've been enough. But even so, van Bommel (who I agree is over the hill now) nearly scored with a rasper. But I really think you're way off with Sneijder. He was a bit more subdued yesterday, but he was also facing better opposition than last week. He still managed to create chances, had that curler that went close, set up Robben a few times.

It's just not clever or even thought through. In fact, I'd bet anyone could do the same with the England squad. And in my personal opinion, I think the fact there are so many different ethnicities in the German squad is cause for celebration given the 'ethnic cleansing' during WW2, not a cause for mockery ;)
