Standard and quality of referees in the Npower Championship

Have taken time to calm down since Saturday but still feel aggrieved by the officiating. I was sat in SK4 and the linesman was just awful. He gave a corner when the ball hadn't gone. Then gave a goal kick to us when the ball was still in by about 3 feet.

And as for the referee, it was overall one of the worst displays i have ever witnessed. He missed so many incidents i don't know where to start. As well as slowing the game down at every opportunity.. For example Murray kicking the ball away from Schmeichel, and he speaks to his assistant and then proceeded to tell Schmeichel to take the ball further back and ignored Murray.

As some have said, we know how crap this referee is, and i honestly agree with people that he may have a problem with Leicester City. Either that or based on the two times i've seen him officiate he shouldn't still have a job.

The linesman you are talking about was a joke I was sat about 10 feet from him and most of his decisons were clueless even the 10 year old in front of me wouldnt have given a corner, still we can't blame the officials for us losong totally we need to look at ourselves as well once we changed the formation apart from our mistakes Palace didnt bother us that much

Basically we always seem to get the refs who are demoted from the premier league because they're not good enough! Why do we have to have the poor refs we are just an important league

It was bad but we forget the games where we win because of a decision missed or given in our favor. These posts come up regularly whenever we lose but ultimately they scored 2 goals and we couldn't put the ball in the net on Saturday meaning the blame lies with the team rather than the ref. It was a poor performance and we can do much better.

Agree to an extent. But you can't say that with regard to Saturday. The Garvan handball on the line that wasn't given was one of the worst mistakes i've ever seen by a referee. He would have been sent off and we would have had a penalty ultimately changing the game.

But yeah i agree, we got it wrong tactically to start with.

Jesus Christ, I just watched the highlights v Palace and that handball on the line is as blantant as I remember it. **** me how could the imcompetent cvnts miss that? Diabolical, all that rage from Saturday comes flooding back.

I said we'd lose because we had D'urso. He was very poor but didn't affect the result. We were shit.

Exactly this. He was crap, but we lost because the tactics and substitutions were terrible.

Wow, people are finally looking at the bigger picture.

Well done, I congratulate you, anyone else care to take the blue-tinted specs off join the realist group?

People are stills saying that some of the refs are shite. The amount of points we lost last season due to refs is beyond me. I think people were being generous last week by saying the ref didn't affect the result. If we'd have had that penalty and a man sent off, as well as that other penalty which was exactly the same as Whitbread's foul against Brighton........

Just because we've played shit doesn't excuse some of the poor officiating.

Tbf Matt last season was probably a one off, the refereeing was terrible far too often. Cost us at least 10 points.

This season I can only point to 2 games where we may have been cost points by refs (especially Blackburn)

No it doesn't, i'm not saying that, I hate officials when they make bad decisions as much as the next person, it's wrong, i'm not justifying it, i'm not even sticking up for them. (Just look back at the abuse i've gave to DB11 in the past and his inabilty to admit when a referee is wrong)

However if you read some people's comments, it's almost as if the officials have cost us the games, it's almost as if they were the reason we lose/fail to win, it's almost as if it wasn't for the officials we would win almost every game, a good 8 - 9 times out of 10 people seem to have that opinion. I'm sorry but bullshit, we wouldn't win every game.

What pisses me off is the inability of some people to look at the bigger picture and accept it wasn't the officials fault we lose/fail to win games - It is simply the poor performance of our team, don't get me wrong officials decisions don't help, they affect the game but they aren't the reason we lose/fail to win games - occasionally they are but like I keep reitterating in this post it seems whenever we lose/fail to win a game almost instantly the finger is pointed at the referee.

Regardless of what people say the ref was shit today. Inconsistent with decisions and seemed to give Watford more 50/50 decisions. The Lino closest to us couldn't make his decisions either.

Not saying the ref cost is the game because we were poor (before the holier than thou brigade start) but no-one can defend the refs poor performance today.

I agree that we didn't get the 50/50 decisions today. It was probably not until 2nd half, when we were getting back into the game when one went our way. From where I sat Watford got a number of fortunate decisions 2nd half in and around their box.I also thought Whitbread's 2 yellows were harsh.

D'urso is s shocking ref and we never ever win when we have him. Appalling ref.

He did give every 50/50 to them and the linesmen in front of us fans was shit. Copied the refs decision making all the time and his offsides were late and debatable.

Overall another crap game for officals but they didn't cost us anything today unlike Haines last week who didn't give a blatant penalty which could have been game changing.

Agreed.

We didn't help ourselves but the officials, all of them, were crap.

Lino infront of us was shocking. Gave them corners when they weren't and gave them goal kicks when they weren't. Morgan nearly had his head ripped off his head and didn't give anything for it.

Funny how the linesmen waited for D'urso to make his decision then flagged, not once contradicting the ref!

Yes I did notice that - the one by the Rous stand hardly made a decision for himself.

Still we managed to keep 11 men on the pitch and not give away a soft penalty for once..

Leeds away next week though so that will change!

It's not funny it's just what they are told to do.

Today's game Anthony Taylor is the referee. Here is a sample of what I found...!

"Taylor sent three players off in his first game of the 2011-12 season. Middlesbrough won 1–0 at Leeds United in a fixture which saw Jonny Howson and Max Gradel of Leeds and Boro's Tony McMahon dismissed, all for second yellow card offences. Leeds manager Simon Grayson said afterwards: "There wasn't a dirty challenge and three players have been sent off."[19] Taylor refereed a total of 34 matches that season and sent-off eight players in total, including the three at Leeds."

Looks like he's an ideal candidate for todays game then. lol

He has done premier league games, but for the most part seems to have cocked them up, according to Wikipedia.
