Parafox Posted 17 October 2012 Posted 17 October 2012 This is of interest to me so apologies if it's dull. Has anyone on here been involved in an accident or incident where you've had the services of paramedics, police or fire? Or all three? You don't have to be specific about times or places. I would just like to know a bit about what happened. How were you treated by (in particular) paramedics and hospital staff as well as the police? Or maybe the fire service. It's not a survey or any kind of research. I only ask out of professional interest.
FoxesAreBlue Posted 17 October 2012 Posted 17 October 2012 Yep - was a passenger in a head-on car crash in 2006. Was in a pretty bad state and my memory isn't great but we had police and ambulance assistance. I remember being cut from the car and the paramedic joking with me because I had bitten the end of my tongue off and couldn't talk. At the hospital I was on one of those "back board" things and left out in the corridor for about 30mins before I was seen but to be fair, most of the hospital staff who passed by checked on me. Obviously due to the nature of the crash it wasn't a pleasent experiance, but the hospital staff did help and were caring etc.
Bellend Sebastian Posted 17 October 2012 Posted 17 October 2012 I had a seizure in a record shop in Sheffield about 20 years ago and woke up in an ambulance. It was all a bit surreal really. As far as I know I was well looked after but as anyone who has had one will probably relate to, when you come round you're still not really with it. The only negative, and it's not really anyone's fault, was that I was let out an hour or so later and had to walk home a couple of miles in about a foot of snow. I had a completely unrelated pain in my bollocks at the time and when asked by the pretty doctor if I had any other medical problems, I said that. I think she thought I was trying it on, but I wasn't, honest
Webbo Posted 17 October 2012 Posted 17 October 2012 I was knocked down by a car when I was 12. I was picked up by an ambulance crew, one of which was, as it turned out many years later, my wife's uncle.
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 17 October 2012 Posted 17 October 2012 i have had a few (various things) incidents where a mixture of Paramedics and Police have been called and in all honesty i have found 90% of the paramedics are absolutely fantastic and mostly the Police also. Not had many dealings with trumpton
Ross-Kemp Posted 17 October 2012 Posted 17 October 2012 I was hit by a car when I was 13. Can't really remember to much about it except when I came around in the hospital the paramedic came to check on me because I managed to break his nose. When he tried to take my trainer off I booted him. He laughed about it though.
Guest MattP Posted 17 October 2012 Posted 17 October 2012 A few things, in general paramedics are great, coppers are awful and hospitals are worse than death.

Guest MattP Posted 17 October 2012 Posted 17 October 2012 Wa-heyyy at least you find something redeeming about me. Absolutely, do a stunning job from my experience.
Parafox Posted 17 October 2012 Author Posted 17 October 2012 Absolutely, do a stunning job from my experience. Thank you. I will herewith reconsider my potentially offensive remark to you on another topic...
Simmo86 Posted 17 October 2012 Posted 17 October 2012 Broke my arm at a Skatepark when I was 11. Paramedics were fantastic calmed me down no end with the aid of gas and air!
notnow john Posted 17 October 2012 Posted 17 October 2012 I was taken to the royal after becoming Ill with kidney stones. Paramedics were brilliant. My subsequent experience with A&E was woefull , not overly busy but careless and unprofessional. Has the service been taken over by arriva now.
Mike Oxlong Posted 17 October 2012 Posted 17 October 2012 Yes. Once I went to break wind but instead of a guff of air it was all liquidy.
Daggers Posted 17 October 2012 Posted 17 October 2012 I was having a shower when I fell due to a bar of soap and landing upon the Hoover attachment. Three hours to remove it from my anus. Three bastard hours. Sack the NHS.
Nick Posted 18 October 2012 Posted 18 October 2012 I was having a shower when I fell due to a bar of soap and landing upon the Hoover attachment. Three hours to remove it from my anus. Three bastard hours. Sack the NHS. The condom on the Hoover attachment was more difficult to explain though, wasn't it?
Rincewind Posted 18 October 2012 Posted 18 October 2012 Not been in a big accident but a few years back during a bad winter my stepdad decided to drive back home from an uncles. The roads were iced up and the car skidded off the road and hit something. May have been a tree. We were OK in the car but went hospital for check ups. Mum was shaken. He was luck there was not the compulsory breath test then. My uncle made his own beer and it was no John Smiths. It was too strong if anything. But my stepdad thought he was capable of driving the few miles despite the worries of others. Not sure if the drink was a factor though as even a sober person would have had trouble keeping a car going straight. We were going less than 5 mph yet we were sliding all over the road.
Daggers Posted 18 October 2012 Posted 18 October 2012 I pretended to be a Dalek when I was small. Had to go to hospital to have the metal bin removed from my head. True story.
Bert Posted 18 October 2012 Posted 18 October 2012 Few times I've had accidents. Really must stop shitting my pants.
Reynard Bleu Posted 18 October 2012 Posted 18 October 2012 Owe my life to a Paramedic called Dave from Burnley. He was a serving as TA medic attached to my company. Without him I would have bled to death.
FrankieADZ Posted 18 October 2012 Posted 18 October 2012 had a couple... i remember getting whacked on the head by a ball before a City game at Filbert Street... we played Pompey(we won 4-2 i think)kinda knocked me out....tho i cant remember fully & had a car accident a yr ago, a lorry went into the side of our car.....making it spin across the dual carriage way.
1964FOX Posted 18 October 2012 Posted 18 October 2012 A few things, in general paramedics are great, coppers are awful and hospitals are worse than death. Ooh you won't like me then as I've worked for the cops for 27 years.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 18 October 2012 Posted 18 October 2012 When I first saw this thread I thought Parafox was a salesman working for a firm of injury lawyers. Never been in an accident involving the emergency servicews personally, but a car with friends in following us did, as it went into a tree. No one was really hurt (think my mate had braked early enough to take most of the speed out of the crash, but a teenage girl in the back was constantly crying "I'm dying! I'm dying!" and refused to move until the paramedic gently lifted her out and took her to hospital to have her "moderate bruises" looked at. I wouldn't have been nearly as sympathetic, I'd have been more like this...
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 18 October 2012 Posted 18 October 2012 A few things, in general paramedics are great, coppers are awful and hospitals are worse than death. any particular reason why you always have a go at coppers MattP? have you had a bad experience in the past?
Julian Joachim Jr Shabadoo Posted 18 October 2012 Posted 18 October 2012 A few things, in general paramedics are great, coppers are awful and hospitals are worse than death. Most of the police I've encountered have been alright. When I first started riding motorbikes, I binned it at 40mph and took all the skin off my knees in the process. As I was about to set off again (jeans absolutely covered in blood), a policecar pulled up and they asked if I was alright. The next day, the same policeman visited my house just to make sure I'd got home ok! Although, as with all professions, some are arseholes. I remember a policeman pulling me over for allegedly going at 35mph in a 30 zone (was purposefully going 25mph as I knew I was being followed). Turns out the chump just wanted to brag that he had a faster bike than me. Is "wasting civilian's time" a crime?
