Rincewind Posted 19 October 2012 Posted 19 October 2012 I support the police but their interpretation of reasonable grounds may vay to ours. They are the law enforcers so have to make a judgement regardless what we think. Examples; somebody bending down to tie up a shoe-lace, taking an envelope from an inside pocket; lighting up a fag in a shop doorway, waiting in a shop doorway for more than two minutes, giving a five-high to a mate, wearing a hoodie. I'm sure there are others They are not good reasons as they stand but the criminal is hardly likely to do an illegal activity whilst a policeman is in view Also the policeman is not going to say 'I am searching you because you have just lit up a fag.' So they say something like 'We have had reports of drug dealing and one description matches yours.' Whose to know whether that is true? After the copper apologises and the bloke goes on his way. Shaken but not stirred too much.
ADK Posted 19 October 2012 Posted 19 October 2012 Never been stopped and searched, i'd just be slightly embarrassed that they thought i looked dodgy. I can see why black people get annoyed though there was one guy said he got stopped 5 times in one day. Not sure if thats possible.
Guest MattP Posted 19 October 2012 Posted 19 October 2012 I heard a black person gets stopped over 40 times a day in Leicester City Centre. I bet he's sick of it.
purpleronnie Posted 19 October 2012 Posted 19 October 2012 Do police in britain need a reason to stop you? I know in America they do.
Guest MattP Posted 19 October 2012 Posted 19 October 2012 Do police in britain need a reason to stop you? I know in America they do. Officially yes. Though they don't.
Guest Posted 19 October 2012 Posted 19 October 2012 for so many of you it seems that the Police are bad bad people. Perhaps we'd be better off without them? Or maybe we should privatise them .....
Rincewind Posted 19 October 2012 Posted 19 October 2012 They reason they have to stop you in America is if you run when they are shooting at you.
Nick Posted 19 October 2012 Posted 19 October 2012 Anyone hear on RL this morning about Stop and Searches conducted by Leicestershire Constabulary? I can't find a link but it's a load of bollocks I think. They were basically required to lower the number of stop and searches of black and Asian men to be in line with the number of white men they stop. Yet in the next sentance they say that stop and searches cannot be done randomly and officers must have reasonable grounds to carry one out. How can both be implemented, especially as I believe we are the first city to become an ethnic majority city? (for want of a better phrase) the odds are if you stop someone in leicester town centre they won't be white. It's political correctness gone bonkers Edit- even if my last paragraph is factually incorrect the point still stands. If someone is acting suspiciously whether they be black white or Asian, they should be stopped. If it happens to be that most are non white, this is hardly the fault of the police is it? Theyre just doing their job. They don't prejudice people they suspect of drink driving so why this? http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-11872761 Because black people in Leicester are are six times as likely to be stopped and searched than white people and twice as likely if you are Asian. It's Police prejudice that this is concerned with.....i.e. what a Police Officers notion of what 'suspicious' might be - that's the problem. It's nothing to do with political correctness its to do with institutionalised discrimination and stereotyping.

That is what equality is about. Not loqering the numbers to make them equal

The Police have been asked to ensure that their activities are defensible because right now they are not. Police have not been asked to relent from stopping and searching people engaged in suspicious activity - it's about what Police define suspicious activity to be. And right now that definition appears to be that if you are black you are engaged in suspicious activity. *frightened to death of response*
The Year Of The Fox Posted 19 October 2012 Posted 19 October 2012 Fair enough i was, missing the point slightly
Nick Posted 19 October 2012 Posted 19 October 2012 Fair enough i was, missing the point slightly Yeah, the Force have been looking at and taking advice on options on how to deal with this since before Christmas when the report came out. There have been a few ideas around training and the possibility of community panels to judge independent complaints made about stop and search incidents. this isn't a new thing - as a white male growing up around the City I was barely stopped at all - many of my non - white friends tell a very different story involving being stopped a couple or more times a week and feeling like their freedom of movement and liberty was invaded unjustly. I hope the Police are able to reflect on their practice and change institutionalised behaviours in regard to this moving forward.
flowwolf Posted 21 October 2012 Posted 21 October 2012 Pains me to say it but he's right. Pretty out of order comments from people that have probably never even been to Serbia. When I went a few years ago I found people very friendly and welcoming. Clearly racism in football is a big problem but to tarnish an entire nation on the basis of a minority of cvnts is pretty dim. Would that be the same nation that performed mass murder on each other in ethnic cleansing ? and they did all that with a small minority ?
Dr The Singh Posted 22 October 2012 Posted 22 October 2012 What do you guys think of 'racial profiling'. In my current job i'm having to travel alot, and it's fair to say I get pulled over and questioned quite abit, and when I ask why I get told cus i'm brown, unofficially ofcourse. In the states at the mo, but I got a hour grilling because I have been to spain, and america twice in 3 months. I'm getting alittle pissed off, what started as 'hey whatever', is now 'wtf now'

A few years ago I was on a trip around the USA which involved 6 flights. I got pulled aside at the boarding gate for every single flight for a pat down. Unless they have a problem with Glaswegian terrorists, there was no racial profiling going on there...

I agree it's the world we live in, and suppose I just have to get on with it, but it doesn;t mean I have to agree with it. Not travelling isn't an option for me at the moment, my job pays the bills, and finding another in this climate would be very risky and very difficult!

flowwolf Posted 22 October 2012 Posted 22 October 2012 Well the latest home office report says that crime is down in all categories except for one Pick pocketing. Now unless there is an arch villain Fagin type somewhere running a night school on how to pick a pocket or two I would say that is down to certain groups of immigrants ( most illegal ) who are world renowned for that particular criminal activity. You get them in any holiday resorts abroad Spain, Portugal ect and they are detested by the locals and the local Police. So since are stupid politicians thought fit to throw open our boarders they have been coming here thinking it's pick pocket heaven and boy are they right. Now then does my opinion or observation of the facts make me a racist for saying this ? and yes they are facts there is now a special undercover police unit in Leicester dealing with just this one particular crime and nine times out of ten it is one particular immigrant group responsible for it. It was a government statement about crime figures that actually highlighted the pick pocketing why do you think it was highlighted ?
