Racism...

Racism against Eastern Europeans seems to have become quite standard in the last few years, the amount you hear directed to towards the Poles is staggering given the inroads our society has supposedly made against this sort of thing.

Replace Serbia with an African/Asian country and that thread doesn't last 5minutes.

Well, they do take our jobs, allegedly.

I doubt there would be such "racism" against poles if they wern't practically overrunning parts of the country. I'm not a reactionary but it's a pretty natural er reaction to unwanted mass immigration.

Hard working blokes, good looking birds, sense of humour, drinkers, football fans....last sort of people we need. :o

Let's go to Manningham to see perfect integration.

Good call, I agree with you completely ( +1 from me), but...

To be fair, in Poland time that means 5pm, so everyone there will be home in time... for the 2nd half.

Shame most if their fans car washes don't close until 5.30.

...someone tries to bite own hand

lol Difference between a joke and racism.

What's the difference between saying Poles are hard working and Serbs are racist thugs?

Posted

Well Brett, the first is a cultural stereotype and the second is a more offensive, prejudicial statement based on limited variables and propaganda.

Both are generalisations though I would add that the latter may cause harm, the former simply confusion or disappointment.

Some of the comments I've read on this forum... To me, this is racism yet no moderator has even cleaned it up. Do some people think racism just occurs against skin colour? Clowns

I'm surprised Webbo hasn't + 1'd this yet.

What if you call them a hardworking racist thug who is nice to his mother and the elderly?

I agree with Father Ted about the quotes in the original post. However, I can't help but think of the words pot, kettle AND black. I mean, he's started a post before trying to prove to us that Croatians are all wankers based on their behaviour at football (Exhibit A). It may not be the reason that he thinks all Croatians are wankers (given his Serbian heritage I imagine it's a lot more complex then just "Croatians are racist at football matches"). Especially since my experience of Croatians is exactly the same as your experience of Serbians.

In fact I've discussed with him about this before.

which does sound a little bigotted. You seem to be completely missing the point and have now started this vendetta when, to be honest, most people on here hadn't even started school when the Dayton agreement was signed in 1995. Much like you completely missed the point with C-Man in that thread.

Completely fair. Not trying to make excuses but at that time I was 15 and much less educated... most will remember what an irritant I was before (some may think I still am but then again once a reputation is built, it's hard to dispell it). My political knowledge of the situation has improved a lot and I have some very good Croatian and Bosnian friends. Yes, I was wrong to stereotype but there are some vile ones out there too (eg Boban) - as somebody alluded to Mihajlovic earlier on here somewhere.

Ask a Bosnian or a Kosovan who experienced Serb 'nationalism' what they think about Serbian behaviour towards their particular race.

How do you know of the situation and how about the atrocities they did to our people. The war was a 2-way thing, something which the British media largely forgot. And Kosovo is a completely different situation to the separation of the ex-Yugoslav states - an area that is illegally trying to be wrestled away under the grasps of Serbia by the Americans and EU - just look at what some of the Kosovan Albanians have done to highly religious Serbian monasteries across Kosovo.

Talking about stereotyping, I have Family guy on and the British have taken over the pub. The clientell are talking cricket and acting like upperclass twits and Stewey is teaching the owners daughter to speak proper cuz she speaks cockney would you Adam and Eve it.

One of the funniest episodes. Should I not be offended?

Nah, that's a good stereotype.

Plus it's keeps the myth alive most of us are like that rather than lager swilling chlamydia catching yobbos.

You might want to be careful where you go with this one, kiddo. Reynard is a soldier in his adulthood who may very well have seen the conflict first hand.

You're a young guy with immensely clear bias who was barely even alive during the height of the conflict in question.

Anyone hear on RL this morning about Stop and Searches conducted by Leicestershire Constabulary? I can't find a link but it's a load of bollocks I think.

They were basically required to lower the number of stop and searches of black and Asian men to be in line with the number of white men they stop. Yet in the next sentance they say that stop and searches cannot be done randomly and officers must have reasonable grounds to carry one out.

How can both be implemented, especially as I believe we are the first city to become an ethnic majority city? (for want of a better phrase) the odds are if you stop someone in leicester town centre they won't be white.

It's political correctness gone bonkers

Edit- even if my last paragraph is factually incorrect the point still stands.

If someone is acting suspiciously whether they be black white or Asian, they should be stopped. If it happens to be that most are non white, this is hardly the fault of the police is it? Theyre just doing their job.

They don't prejudice people they suspect of drink driving so why this?

I was cited the fact that I was 'in an area known to contain a high number of drug users' as 'reasonable grounds' to be stopped and searched at half 5 in the afternoon whilst wearing a work uniform and an ID badge around my neck. The police can twist any set of circumstances to justify doing what they like so I wouldn't read too much (if anything) into their official policy statements.
