I completely agree with you, ignorant generalisations because of the actions of a number of Serbian twats at a football match. I found the scenes which prompted these comments offensive and these comments are no better.

It's understandable being angry at what some Serbian fans subjected England players to.

But it's disgusting to see people condemning the Serbian nation for racism whilst in the same breath spouting ignorance and hate themselves.

Pains me to say it but he's right. Pretty out of order comments from people that have probably never even been to Serbia. When I went a few years ago I found people very friendly and welcoming. Clearly racism in football is a big problem but to tarnish an entire nation on the basis of a minority of cvnts is pretty dim.

I agree with Father Ted about the quotes in the original post. However, I can't help but think of the words pot, kettle AND black. I mean, he's started a post before trying to prove to us that Croatians are all wankers based on their behaviour at football (Exhibit A). It may not be the reason that he thinks all Croatians are wankers (given his Serbian heritage I imagine it's a lot more complex then just "Croatians are racist at football matches"). Especially since my experience of Croatians is exactly the same as your experience of Serbians.

In fact I've discussed with him about this before.

I'm not implying that the Serbs are amazing but I have received a lot of criticism for having a go at the Croats in this thread: Croatian FA conspiracy aswell as being called a bigot through PM and I'm fed up.

Obviously people's opinions on Serbs won't change because the media here always backed the Croats, just how the Americans, NATO, etc. backed the Croats in the war.

But your post hasn't done anything to make me disagree with you when you said that a typical Croat is a willy puller. In fact all its done is highlight the kind of problem we've seen in places such as Russia, Romania, Poland and a whole host of other countries, including Serbia

I think the reaction in this thread was more to do with the fact you basically called all Croats wankers purely because they're Croatian. There would be an uproar for instance if I'd responded to this post with "typical black people. Wankers", much like you did here:

The comments are not aimed at any specific person so maybe not, but they are certainly stereotyping and offensive to any Serbian that may read them. They can be regarded as reactionary also.

I would suggest this is actually a true form of racism as it's directed at all Serbians, no different to a slur directed at everyone from Pakistan.

The OP is correct and we should know better, how many times have we being wrongly judged for being a football fan, considered as an unintelligent violent thug just becase we support a team. The awful thing is that the behaviour by that set of fans the other night will only prove to some they are right about footballl fans.

That's like suggesting all German people are awful or - to be honest - all British people are awful based on historic transgressions of militaries. It's pretty shit for Ted to have to take that abuse.

Racism against Eastern Europeans seems to have become quite standard in the last few years, the amount you hear directed to towards the Poles is staggering given the inroads our society has supposedly made against this sort of thing.

Replace Serbia with an African/Asian country and that thread doesn't last 5minutes.
